OK Barry.

I was in the bottom paddock for a while, and had to look twice too.

The driver is Michael Ellul, who is "cracking on" abit. I think he last hill climbed about 20 years ago, in a quick FIAT 127.

The car. As I said, I had to look twice.
Spaceframe with normal outboard suspension ! That's normal, there were plenty of those.
Renault gearbox. That was the give away.
It was the ex Phillip Zammit car which was built over 30 years ago.
I've pictured it earlier I believe. It was a bathroom blue sort of colour, and it had a different nose. The Lotus twin cam engine has been replaced with a 2 litre 4 cylinder FIAT.

Of the other cars pictured, the red Escort too has plenty of history. In the 70s and 80s it was raced by owner Teddy Aquilina, with a 2 litre SOHC Pinto engine. It's now four wheel drive, with a Cosworth Turbo. And it goes !!!

The Elise is owned and driven by Edward Calleja, and has had a bit of surgery too. It now runs a Honda 2 litre V Tech engine and Honda box, and goes very well. Ed has raced it successfully in Sicily too, both on the hills an at the Racalmuto circuit.

The white Radical is Mark Micallefs, and placed 2nd overall - Mark's best result to date. It is powered by a turbocharged Powertech Hyabusa engine.

The pretty sports racer in Gulf colours belongs to Ivan Deidun. He built it himself, and a nice job he did of it too. It too is Hyabusa powered.

Nice pics Barry. I'm enjoying this. Let's have some more.

I do wish this forum allowed me to post my own pics too. There are some interesting machines we could talk about.

Steve, Hubert Camilleri asked me last Sunday, when were you coming out?

I need to know the dates of the late season hillclimbs but it all seems very vague. Once I have a date I could formulate some plans to VISIT MALTA.

Final event of the season yesterday - at Mtahleb.

Not so easy for me to take photos nowadays as I am now marshalling at the hill climbs, but this proves that at least one of the competitors was enjoying himself:

..and he gathered it up and carried on.

Pleased to see that they installed a leg barrier in front of that wall, that should break the impact a bit....

My friend Matt Scerri is a brilliant photographer.

He snapped this picture at last Sunday's hill climb near Mellieha.
