How many different race winners in F1 2012?

With McLaren having locked out two front rows already, both drivers will be in the frame for victories during the season. Even though Red Bull seems to have struggled on pure pace, we should not forget that both their drivers won races during the past years. Mercedes as well may be a future contender, with Michael Schumacher aiming for his first victory of his comeback career, and Rosberg looking to "make the Button/Häkkinen". Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen is convinced of his car's speed, and his team mate is certainly aiming to make the best of the car's potential as well. And while Ferrari seems to be struggling, Alonso is known to punch well above his weight in races. Despite today's F1's technical reliability, we must not count out a freak victory due to weather conditions (Vettel 2008) or high attrition (Panis 1996, Herbert 1999) or both (Fisichella 2003).
So how many drivers will win races in Formula 1 this year?
Record holder is still the 1982 season, when no less than 11 drivers took the chequered flag first.

Button and Hamilton obviously will win, and probably Vettel and Webber too. Vettel's dominance over Webber in quali seems to be over, which will give Webber a lot better chance this year than last.
I can easily see Schumi winning a wet race, but I'm not sure the car (or tyres) are up for it under normal conditions just yet. Rosberg has a decent chance too despite not being on top form so far this season. They have a strong team and a lot of money behind them.
Raikkonen has always had strong race pace and now that it's easier to pass (with DRS) I think his chances of winning are decent too. I think there's still a question of whether Lotus can develop the car as fast as the "big boys" though. They started last year very strong too, but then faded. I think it's too early to say too much about Grosjean, but he's doing a decent enough job so far.
I don't think you can ever count out Alonso either. It seems very unlikely that he'll win a race any time soon, but Ferrari are a team who can fix/develop a car quite well throughout the season, and as we know Alonso is a driver who never gives up and always gives it 110%. He's pretty handy in wet conditions too, which might be his best chance of winning this year.

It's a long season, I expect Ferrari to be decent enough at least in one or two races coupled with some luck such as other opponents possibly not finishing or screwing up on strategy.

But, drivers who will win this season:
1. Button (already has)
2. Alonso (already has)
3. Hamilton
4. Vettel
5. Webber
6. Räikkönen
a seventh surprise winner is possible, but unlikely.

I think people who think SCH will win a race this year are deluding themselves. Nothing in that Merc so far has pointed towards race winning pace. Sure qualifies great, but come race day, they are gone. I doubt they will be able to get completely around the tyre killing problem, thus making Schumacher the least likely world champion to win a race this year.
But, drivers who will win this season:
1. Button (already has)
2. Alonso (already has)
3. Hamilton
4. Vettel
5. Webber
6. Räikkönen
a seventh surprise winner is possible, but unlikely.
If Raikonnen can be considered a potential race winner then I don't see why Schumacher can not. Once MGP resolves the tire issue they will be a force to look out for.

Rosberg in China
Vettel in Barcelona
Webber in Nurburgring
Hamilton in Silverstone
Raikkonen in Spa
Schumacher in Monza
Perez in Suzuka
add Button and Alonso and we have 9

I think we could even have eight winners. It's close this year. so, BUT, ALO have already won. HAM, VET, WEB, are extremely likely to win at least once, almost certain. SCH and ROS both have a great chance if the car settles down, and a race goes their way. So that's seven already, without pushing the imagination too much. Kimi could easily get a win if the race turns out that way, and Perez very nearly won already.

Well my guess
Rosberg in China
Vettel in Barcelona
Webber in Nurburgring
Hamilton in Silverstone
Raikkonen in Spa
Schumacher in Monza
Perez in Suzuka
add Button and Alonso and we have 9
we're not at Nurburgring this year are we? I thought German GP was at Hockenheim. I could see Webber being strong at Spain and Vettel at Hockenheim though

To be fair - its Raikkonen we are talking about here , who won 2009 Spa in a dog cart...
.. if Lotus even maintain its relative position of 3rd best , that one is secured for him.

I think there is a good chance that Webber won't win this year unless the Red Bull really leaps ahead in performance, I'd put his chances on a par with Raikonnen right now. Grosjean has a chance too but he needs to find a "Grand Prix" race head pretty soon before the development race starts to favour the big teams.
Alonso has got his win, again in unusual circumstances like in Silverstone 2011. In "normal" races I don't expect Ferrari to be challenging for another, they are with a big group in the midfield who might profit from freak conditions - I'll put Sauber, Mercedes and Williams in there too.

9
Button
Alonso
Raikkonen

If that list becomes reality we would have the most epic season of all times on our hands.

If you're going to put Perez and Raikkonen in there, can I make a suggestion?Well my guess
Rosberg in China
Vettel in Barcelona
Webber in Nurburgring
Hamilton in Silverstone
Raikkonen in Spa
Schumacher in Monza
Perez in Suzuka
add Button and Alonso and we have 9
Senna in Interlagos
Senna winning in a Williams at Interlagos would be quite frankly amazing.

Seeing riakonnen win would be cool...
Seeing Schumi win would be cool...
Lewis will win soon
Bravo Alonso, dunno whether he will win again. Such a solid mindset...I wouldn't even try in such a car.
Webber? humm ... Vettel? soon...

So under normal conditions 5 winners, with possible one or two extra winners if there are changeable weather conditions.

If Merc can solve their issues then I'd expect Schumacher to win, and maybe Rosberg if he doesn't crack...

A total non-issue.

So what? Button didn't win his first GP / championship for many more years but in the end things have changed.

From there to 6 it's a big leap and now it seems like Kimi and then GrowJohn are closer to that. Then there are the Mercedes, followed by Massa. Everyone else is in the once in a generation odds for a win, which makes 7 seem unrealistic despite how close the field seems.

You don't believe Kimi could pull one?
I think Kimi could win one, but it's extremely unlikely.
So I go with the default 5:
Button
Alonso
Hamilton
Vettel
Webber
I don't think Merc or Lotus will win a race this year, although if I were to add one more driver to the list it would be Rosberg.

Too early to say, but it looks like 5 is the minimum we are going to get.
