The FIA shows in their official review that Alonso was laughing when he passed Vettel who was stalling with his broken alternator in Valencia. The quick highlight video from FOM shows the same thing. At that moment I thought it was kinda ridiculous to mount that laugh (i thought he laughed his ass off when he crossed the finish line) directly behind that DNF from Seb but it seems that's not the case. Anyone can think back what the live radio transmission between Alonso and Ferrari was like when Vettel dnf'd?

They didn't play his radio when he passed Vettel but the laugh is the exact same as the one they played when he crossed the line. Unless he laughed exactly the same twice in one race I think it's very likely that it is simply a case of selective editing.

are we talking about the valencia race edit on f1.com now? because just had a look at that, and his laugh when he passes Vettel is higher than the one when he finishes, definitely not the same played twice.
I hope he will have the chance to laugh at a Vettel DNF like this again; because whenever he does, he loses it in the end to Vettel in a dramatic fashion.

Exactly. It's the same in the review DVD too. Two different sounds, first at Vettel's DNF, second at the end of the race - then you can hear him choking back tears.
