Superlicense podcast is imho the best F1 podcast there is.They publish frequently, have great personalities and manage to be funny and informative with just two guys in front of the microphones. I do a video game podcast myself, and know how hard it is do with just two. The australian accent is also a plus  (Only wish I could remember to send in my predictions)

Formula one rejects is my second favorite. Would love for them to publish more frequently.

MotorsportMagazine podcast with Pat Symonds

http://www.motorspor...th-pat-symonds/

Always good to hear what he has to say about current matters in F1.

This really is sensational - again.  It ought to be required listening before people post in some threads.

Some highlights;

  • Comments on how Williams has been moving forwards and why they have been conservative.
  • Why they were not quite gelling previously.
  • Design philosophies - when things do or do not get added to the car and why F1 cars are inherently unstable.
  • Why they were not aggressive in Austria.
  • What he thinks of Bottas and Massa.
  • Would he rather have Alonso in the car for free or $25m funding.
  • Should pit to car radio be banned?
  • The truth about the summer break.
  • Low profile tyres and what they mean for the teams.

Pat was in the previous month's podcast, from Formula Student and that's well worth a listen too.

Symonds has been the best guest by far, and that includes Anderson. Who had a few good ideas but also some that made me think "err, you can't really think that..."

I also find the older the guest the more entertaining the podcast, though that's for stories not info. Derek Bell made me actually laugh out loud. Okay it was Merzario downshifting for the banking at Daytona, but still...

Brilliant, thanks.  So Jan 2012 is Pat and Nov 10.

If I have to level a criticism at the podcast it's when Rob Widdows gets all mysterious about the fantastic guest he's got coming up 'but first the subscription stuff...' when you've already got there by clicking a link to 'August podcast with Pat Symonds.'  Not quite a deal breaker.

True but many of their readers probably suffer from short term memory loss anyway, considering their age.

And speaking of Motor Sport Magazin, another thing I thought of... eh, wait... Darn, what was it...

Don't know if a great deal here listen to them, but F1 rejects are doing a live podcast of the Russian GP and if there one of the 2011 Indian GP is any indication it will be pretty awesome, or if you just want to escape certain commentators you aren't fond of. They are also doing a live preview vodcast type thing before the race.

It's re-starting in due course as Grand Prix Rejects.

I understand that FOM forced F1 Rejects to close down because its use of the term F1.  If so, then I can't express what I would like to do to them on here because it would break laws in so many countries even ISIS would be startled.

You got to be kidding me? I mean, will I get FOM on my back if I make the site F1-Guide, for all the uses of the keyboard button?

Surprising, given how F1 Rejects has been around for what, the whole century?

Reminds me a bit of another recent story of how the economist running NASCARnomics.com was forced under legal pressure to change his website to Racingnomics.com. He'd been publishing analysis of the drop in NASCAR's TV ratings...

Motor Sport Magazine podcast features race car designer Tony Southgate.

Starts with the usual bollocks from this crowd;
"So, F1 today eh?"
"All those flappy trick wings are pants"
"Yeah F1 is shit these days"
"Race was good at the weekend though"
"Yeah, brilliant. Definitely the best in years"

After that some interesting stuff on Colin Chapman & Lotus, tyre favouritism, weight distribution, LMP cars that flip, and what engineers really want from drivers. Recommended.

Juankers. I really can't understand why FOM wants to close down websites that promote their sport. I can't think of anywhere else save for some excellent threads on forums that wrote engagingly and positively about backmarkers and talent that was never in the right place at the right time.

I'm not sure FOM actually cares, but they sell the commercial rights on a mostly national basis to organisations who jealously guard their multi-million 'investment'.

This week as part of the Motor Sport podcast feed they are introducing a new Royal Automobile Club 'talk show' and this month it's an interview with Ross Brawn and Nick Fry. I'm 30 minutes in and so far it's got some great insights into the sort of team Honda was when Brawn joined, how the recruitment process went and then a fantastic story about the kind of sharp suits who tried to buy into the team when Honda cut their funding.

Strongly recommended.

...and now finished it. Truly fantastic story of how they turned the team around, what the season meant to them and why things went wrong in the middle of 2009. They spoke about how they funded the team, what it took to convince Honda to let them have it, the dedication of the engineers and staff, and how lucky they were that this all happened so late in the day that the drivers didn't have other options. There may even be a movie one day...

Also, a brief section on the double diffuser with a few facts which will surprise people. Apparently, the car was not built around it at all - it was quite a late development.

Great episode about the 2008 and 2009 Brackley years when the seeds for the team's current succes were planted. Also the first time Ross Brawn speaks about F1 since he left the sport.

It was interesting what he said about Toyota in 2009. I have often wondered what they could have produced with an experienced winner like Alonso or Raikkonen in that car.

Well, Alonso anyway. Frank Dernie seemed to be of the view that they were not necessarily of equal merit even early on.

Found what Dernie had to say about his drivers entirely fascinating. Good to hear Carlos Reutemann getting his due.

Great to have Roebuck back as well. With due respect to the rest of the Motor Sport team, he's the star.

Yes, I listened to it. But there's little doubt that Raikkonen was a superior driver to both Trulli and Glock, so whether or not he was as good as Alonso is not the issue at hand. Additionally, I disagreed with his characterisation of Raikkonen vs Montoya. Raikkonen was comfortably faster when they were both in the same car.

Dear Yamamoto-san,

As you are a new participant here....

I must inform you that this is the wrong thread for offering a gallant defense of your favorite drivers.

There are plenty of those available on this board.

We come here to listen and share the thoughts of people who have extensive experience in racing and KNOW the characters involved.

So please, exercise restraint.

Having said that, if someone interviewed was recanting the story of your Kimi at a London strip club, pulling out his angry 3/4 inches and peeing on waitresses, your contribution may be peripherally be germane.

If you want my advice, the discussion in this thread should remain at the "What Dernie said" level.

My guess is that Dernie was one of the people pushing very hard at Toyota to get Alonso on board for 2008. Raikkonen would've been a real long shot at that point, as he'd just become world champion with Ferrari.

Thought Dernies comments about Prost at Ligier were great to hear, I'm always frustrated that the only thing anyone wants to discuss about Prost is his years with Senna, the guy had a fascinating career before that and could probably fill two books.
