In light of the political/security situation in Bahrain, just trying to get a feel for what the impact of the FIA decision to go ahead with this race is amongst the sport's 'hardcore' fans.

Personally, I don't think the race should be happening but I will watch anyway.

I believe that the 'no's will be in the minority. Most people will tune in including, I suspect, a few of those who say that they will not.

There isn't an "I don't know" option.

I won't be watching for the race. I just don't know whether to tune in for the politics or not.

I'll watch.

I think the best thing for the protesters is to have the media there. But the Sunnis aren't going to share power, period, so I don't see it as an opportunity to make a difference, sadly.

Yes I will be watching, although the race should not be going ahead. The Force India mechanics getting attacked proves this.

Unnecessary question! Off course I will watch it! Every single practice, qualifying and race! Also I think that every real fan of F1 will do the same.

Don't know. I'll see how I feel on the day. A part of me thinks I'll try extra hard to find a Sky-enabled TV to watch live, another part thinks I'll be so disgusted I'll just follow a text/live-blog thing with radio and/or live timing. I tend to track down coverage of races that I've missed, although last year I didn't bother with Valencia.

Easy to say so I know but...

I decided I wasn't going to watch this race weeks ago and intend to stick to my decision.

As protests go, it's quite puny and I don't care who or how many others watch the race, but my conscience tells me 'No'.

Well they had molotov's thrown at them. But they shouldn't even be put into that situation to begin with, it's just too unstable.

Well, personally I think it's wrong but will watch anyway. Howver, I doubt you're right about all of those who voted no; some will most likely crack, but some others will easily have strong enough principles to miss one F1 race.

The race should definitely not be going ahead, and if I felt that my watching it made any sort of difference to anything then I'd be boycotting it.

As it is, though, I'll be watching the race even though it shouldn't be happening.

It's amazing how some are so high and mighty about Bahrain but I don't see these people protesting about the far far far bigger injustices happening in other parts of the world. It's really is quite absurd.

As long as your money is not solely on me... because I will not for sure.
But yes, some cynics will watch and wait for someone to do the stupid thing on track.

Exactly.

F1 has just raced in a country which has serious questions surrounding the rights (or lack of them) afforded to it's people.

Apolgies FredF1 I wasn't intending to paint everyone with the same brush. I agree that there will be some people who will not watch purely because of their convictions rather than because they're doing some DIY. However, when the viewing figures are out for Bahrain, I will be very surprised if they were to be lower than 2010.

Ah seems different media have different versions. The Independent has it thus:

"We were not the target. We just happened upon an incident that was ahead of us, a disruption in the road," Force India spokesman Will Hings told The Associated Press by telephone from Manama today. "Nobody was hurt from our team. We were not targeted directly by molotov cocktails."

No offence taken and I'd agree with that. The current controversy is making F1 a talking point in the wider media so I'd say it'll pick up a large 'casual' viewership.

I'll be watching, as whether my TV is on or not is not going to help anyone.
I only don't think it shouldn't go ahead because the teams aren't safe there, not because of the politics of the situation.

Serbian MIG 21's flying above my house and 9 meter Luna-M rocket exploding half a mile away (and no one in the world cared about that) didn't stop me from watching F1, so I'll certainly watch this weekend's GP.

It does make a difference .. If everyone started to think like that then nothing will ever happen.

No single person can change things but you have to what you can if you beleive in tha cause strong enough !

As for me - I would be watching and think that not watching is also not a great way to protest even if I beleived in the cause

So lets enjoy the race !!

Actually I was thinking about that. Apparently the FIM green-lit the 1991 Yugoslavian Grand Prix at Rijeka, while hostilities were clearly breaking out, only for the race to be cancelled a few weeks before the event as the Croatian War got going. They held a replacement round in Jarama. If anyone has more knowledge about what went on in the build-up to the race's cancellation I'd be fascinated to hear it.

Mind you the situation there was probably more similar to the 2011 edition of the Bahrain Grand Prix -- no one can possibly claim to have been taken by surprise by the violence there this year.

Not sure what I think about what's going on in the country but I'm not sure why an F1 race really affects it, I don't know enough about the situation to judge. I guess if anything all it brings is money and media coverage to their country, which can't be a bad thing.

So do the "No's" just not watch this race or do they give up watching F1 until Bahrain is no longer on the schedule?

I'm torn on whether I think its morally correct to hold the race, but I'm always happy for a weekend of F1.

Since when was not watching a Grand Prix necessarily a political intervention?

You could watch it on the internet or go down the pub.

Personally I would like an option for 'I will watch it, don't have an opinion on the politics of the event', as there is far too much fuss about it IMO.

This is going to be a massively contentious answer, but I'm tired of the west getting involved in middle east politics. How much has the last 15 years cost in tax? How many hospitals and schools and pensions could have been funded?

Run the race. Enjoy it. Move on. Let the local tin pots fight each other for the next 50 years. Couldn't care less what its about or who is right and who is wrong, its not our problem.

Why does it follow that not watching the Bahrain GP should be part of an organised boycott of F1 broadcasts? If people feel uneasy watching the race I don't think they should be made to justify their willingness to watch any of the others.

Probably less than all the middle east, Nigerian and Libyan oil the governments were able to ship back to run the cars in the west.
