The budget exploded!
I will be content with the one I already have, that cost me but a fraction of the ferocious bidding taking place...
Even with a small helmet concussion, it will satisfy me until I can get one in another color at a more reasonable price. In 1958, this 7" Yonezawa tinplate friction toy was 99 Centa at Woolworth...
Sprint cars no longer come cheap!

On that same page, the 1950 Ford friction hot rod is one I had. I thought it was a bit earlier than 1950, but hey, who's counting? Hot-rodding the hot rod, I shortened the wheelbase, building a subframe for the front end out of wire clotheshangers welded to the plastic body by means of a soldering iron. I also grooved the rear tires to match those I saw at Carrell Speedway. It handled a lot better, and was surely faster and better-looking when I got through with it.
