Based on track demands I think Schumacher could be a shoe-in. He did amazing last year here so could go well again.

Then again, Montreal is pretty much Hamilton's track. No driver is better than Lewis here, and that's pretty much a fact.

I'm going to say Hamilton. I really wish it is Schumacher or Raikkonen though. Not surprised Hamilton hasn't won yet; It's still early in the season and he usually kicks starts his season up a gear around Canada time. 2007 he won his first GP, 2010 he took a back to back win (Although if it weren't for the Red Bull collision at Turkey, he would have won his first race of the season here).

On paper RBR should struggle on race day, well down on straight line speed. You really do figure that Hamilton, either Lotus or Schumi are a serious shot at this. IMHO Rosberg may spoil the party if the Merc saves it's tyres.

He is mighty around here but he only won the race on time despite having a car capable of winning more than once. Why all Hamilton fans must claim he is the best around here, Monaco, the best qualifier and say it is a proven fact??. Fact it Michael Schumacher won here 7th times, was mighty around here last year, nevertheless I would dare to call him the best driver in montreal. I always imagine if Hamilton will win one grand prix more than four times his fans will say he was good-like here the others drivers didn't have to start

Hamilton has to be favourite for Canada very easily.

He is really fast at this track further more the McLaren will definitely perform very strongly here but the degradation may make it difficult for Hamilton.

He did take his first career pole and win there and had further poles in 2008 and 2010, good point. Montreal is also one of the few tracks Vettel has not won at. Webber's Canada record is not special either and Alonso has had mixed results and quite a few retirements, but one win there as well.

I don't think Grosjean has raced there before so I'd be surprised if he won it. Kimi has done it once though, in 2005.

Schumacher has the best record (duh), 7 time winner and 2nd 5 times.

Button won last year in a splendid fashion, but I don't think that necessarily means much this time.

Statistics say Schumacher or Hamilton.

McLaren is actually better in the heat. Notice they always lose performance whenever the track temp drops.

They had no pace in the hot Bahrain. Plus their biggest issue is tire wear.

You don't get increased tire wear in the cold.

people say hes really good round there as hes been fast every year, has he either won or dnf'ed at every canadian gp ?

its like kimi and spa, you expect them to be above their average at certain tracks, based on their history

but yeah, lewis, kimi, grosgean, micheal, and maybe massa if hes back on form, but its the first medium downforce track of the year, so maybe a smaller team might spring a surprise

Yeah, but last year they had the same perceived weaknesses, yet took pole and 2/3 in the race (Vettel should have won). Same with Monza.

The straightline speed issue with RBR must still be a choice imo, they obviously prefer the downforce in braking and traction, even at a circuit like Montreal that has almost no high speed corners. Lotus have the same engine, yet seem to consistently be near the top of the speed traps. Would be interested to see average speed down a straight at Montreal, as I have a feeling RBR get to their Vmax quicker and spend more time there, even if it's lower.

He's won there 7 times in nearly 20 years, Hamilton has had 5 starts in Montreal. That would mean that Schumacher's 7 wins relative to Hamilton's 2 in 5 starts are pretty much equal records at this track percentage wise.

Same reason why I don't understand why Schumilovers yell so loud "Monaco master" when he's had nearly 20 starts at Monaco with 5 wins. When you put that record against Senna's 6 wins in 10 starts it's almost insignificant. Same with Schumacher's pole position record 68 against 64 in nearly double the starts.

I doubt whether they will be able to take such step forward. Currently they are 0.5-0.6s behind williams/Saubers.

yeah, that's what I'm thinking too, Rosberg to be the first to double this year, if not, then maybe Raikkönen, lotus is also good in straights, though slow corners are there also... but soft & supersoft on canada says degradation time for me, so that's a strong point too.

don't think so, mclaren's biggest strength is high speed aero corners right? not much of those... and they're not great in traction, straight line, and tyre management on this allocation is also not great.

I think it's time for Lotus to win or I fear they will not win this season unless Kimi pulls a rabbit from his hat in Spa, something that it's quite possible

Schumacher can't win. Someone in the Mercedes team has a red button which stops his car. :down:

Other than that, the biggest chance is a crash with a Renault powered car.

Gotta give credit where it's due, Schumacher holds a great win ratio, however, Fangio's is still far better.

I still don't know what that has to do with his win ratio in Canada in particular compared to Lewis, or his ratio at Monaco compared to Senna though, which was my point.

Schumacher is a great driver, no doubt, but his fans tend to give him titles for tracks, poles, or rain mastery, which IMHO are a bit exaggerated, as demonstrated by the examples I mentioned.

Well at the moment it isn´t very hot in Canada! (around 20°C)

Mercedes will be very strong in Quali so I think we might see Schumacher get to start from pole this time and I wouldn't be surprised to see a front row lockout. Monaco showed they are great in the slow corners and double DRS/Mercedes engine makes them great down the straights, they are basically the 2 requirements for Canada. Mclaren will be strong in the race though and I think Hamilton might be winner number 7.

In this shockingly unpredictable season we had another victory from pole. Winners are all huge surprises, too. No one would bet a dime on four wins out of six from Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari. China was a huge upset with Mercedes, it's longest straight never favoured them, like they didn't lead or qualified in second in recent seasons without current Pirellis. F-ducted DRS played no part, either. Which leaves us with one win from Williams to complain about (penalty to Hamilton helped).

It's getting really embarrassing in terms of how teams are handling their loses with tyres being easy excuse for bad races. Unsurprisingly it was McLaren's turn to throw "lottery" now. I'll start listening to them if they give it as an explanation for their wins. It's really predictable and cringe-worthy now.

I wouldn't be surprised with an all Merc front row. The biggest question mark is probably where Lotus is going to slot in.

Well, with Kimi and Romain we could have altogether ten winners in ten races, and that is not to discount Sergio Perez who could become yet another winner in 2012. It would be a far stretch, though, were they all to win in the eight, nine or ten races.

Remember, 30 years ago we also had 11 GP winners - from only 16 races. That year, by the way, a certain Rosberg won only one race and still became WDC...

in each race, i consider 4 top drivers : Rosberg, Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel. Those drivers are close in every aspect of driving (overtaking, consistency/race pace, one lap speed, reliability).
if the mercedes has the same form as monaco, Rosberg will be a big favorite
