Great comeback for sure. 2 podiums after two years away from single seaters. Impressive imo. He will only get better as well. If he manages a win this season that would truly be and excellent comeback.

The Lotus is a good race car, though. Grosjean, for a supposedly average driver, is 2 points behind Kimi despite 3 DNFs and he was in scoring position for at least two of these.
So yeah, Kimi's comeback is, to me, very average. And Grosjean has not driven an F1 competitively since 2009 too, so in a sense we have a fair comparison there (compared to MSC vs ROS when MSC came back).

I rate his comeback as good and i expect him to win at Spa if Lotus' car is still capable of winning races.

So yeah, Kimi's comeback is, to me, very average. And Grosjean has not driven an F1 competitively since 2009 too, so in a sense we have a fair comparison there (compared to MSC vs ROS when MSC came back).
I agree, but can we assume both their comebacks are pretty impressive. I think kimi struggled in these last two races. I think they both deserve more of a review like this at the end of the season. A lot can happen.

I would rather wait a couple of more races but I voted great. Last year Lotus wasn't any good and this year it seems pretty good so far, but Kimi and Romain are also two very good drivers. The car was ready but the drivers give some feedback and the team seemed very happy with what they got during testing from the drivers. And you have to drive the race.
Some are very quick to assume that the car is so great and they should win races but it's not that easy. The competition is tough. Where was Lotus Renault last year?
The thing is that Kimi will never get credit from some whatever he does.
I've been very impressed with Kimi's racecraft. So clean and so smart. I was very impressed in a couple of races and I hope to see more. The downside has been the last 2 races. He could probably find more speed and be more aggressive as well but I don't know how much considering tires and strategy. It's difficult to say. I think he will improve as the season goes on and I hope to see him being able to be faster. And 2 podiums already. I never thought that before the start of the season. And also. Romain dominated GP2 totally last year so I think he's pretty good.
Edit: and yeah I will be a bit disappointed if he doesn't get faster compared to Romain as the season progress.

Somewhere between average and good. He's been sort of solid, kept the car on the road and out of trouble. Race pace has been pretty good, but i kind of expected him to be more ahead of Grosjean. Needs to be faster in quali. Then again Grosjean has been better than i expected. The guy has got a lot of potential. A good comeback from Kimi so far, but he needs to find more pace.

Very good? Considering the problems Villeneuve, Heidfeld and Schumacher have (quite) recently had after a break, and the problems Fisichella had changing to a more complicated car, he's done very well.

It was very good until Monaco, but the past two races have dropped it to just good. He's performing better than most other drivers. To fight for victory in your 4th race back, and have a real chance in your 5th is impressive.

I voted Good, but for Monaco i'd have voted Great, I think some folks may be expecting to much to soon, and forgetting the wealth of talent on the grid.
2 Podiums in 7 races, all races finished, and points in 6 out of 7 is more than reasonable under the circumstances, either way, one thing that is "Great", is the fact that he's back, in a competitive car, adding to the show and the spectacle that is 6 WDC's on the grid, , if that were the question in the poll i would have said "Excellent"

barcelona was great too, it was exciting watching him cutting the gap to Alonso.
but I think it is already a step forward that you compliment him for bahrain.

Indeed, Schumacher drove dismally in 2010, had a few moments of greatness in 2011 but still was swimming in mediocrity for the most part and now that he's decided "actually I can be quite competitive when I get my arse in gear" the car's got the reliability of a labrador's knees.For sure it's better than Schumacher's comeback, but nothing special except for one glorious race pace in Bahrain.

I think up until Monaco it was Great, maybe even excellent. These last two have been a bit of a nightmare for him. I say as of now it's been good.

I gave Kimi a poor, which I admit is tough, but it's not out of any hatred. I hold Kimi's talent in very high regard, and believe he is among the top 4 or 5 drivers in F1. His race in Canada was disappointing, as was Monaco. I would have expected that as the season progressed -- particularly with an EXCELLENT Lotus underneath him-- he would go from strength to strength. Kimi is still an immensely gifted driver, and I expect he'll win a race, if not more. He has been a bit "finicky", which if Mark Hughes is right (not saying he is!) is causing some tensions within the team. Grosjean is certainly no slouch, but I think Kimi is better. I expect his quality will shine through in the next few races, then I will revise my grade, but for now I think he's performing below his capacity.

I agree with this, although he is clearly not quite on top of the tyres as China and Monaco suggested. Two podiums, one of which should have been a win, and 13 races to go.
It could be argued that he is not far enough ahead of Grosjean, but I rate him highly and I would say Romain has a couple of advantages, as shown by his displays in China and Canada. We'll have to see at the end of the season, but it will be close all the way. So far so good.

It's been exactly as I expected. Appears on the pace, not crazy about the tyres, team mate giving him a hard time but he probably has him covered and he looks absolutely miserable doing it all. I give him 2 seasons max and he will walk away, he just does not want to be there.

Such a ridiculous comment, is it at all possible for you that Grosjean is actually good and is a challenge for Kimi? Is it also possible Kimi is not 100% up to speed, especially in terms of Qualifying? Should we not give him atleast most of the season before trashing him as "poor", when he already has two podium positions after a two year absence from the sport?
I mean opinions are like assholes but still...

I would consider the comeback to be average. If Kimi was as driven and focused as say Mark Webber, he'd be doing quite well, but then again that's part of Kimi's charm

I think it is better to wait till season's end . The lotus has been one of the fastest cars since preseason testing. With that car he should be able to win a race if he is fast all weekend and during the entire race. If he does not accomplish it, i would say his season was average. Right now is not great, somewhere in between good and average. He still cant adapt to different cars, which is still a problem. only maclaren was able to get the most out of kimi..

So not a huge difference to last season really. They have not done significantly better than two of the previous three drivers at the team.
Grosjean is a future star, and we all know Kimi is gifted and get can in and drive anything with a steering wheel and a gas pedal near the limit (whether he is as good as Alonso and Hamilton, Vettel etc I disagree IMO).
They just haven't lost the plot yet, so maybe without FEE they will keep on a good development path.

It's unfair to compare it with Schumacher because he's older and F1 had changed a lot from when he left.
When Schumi was driving in 2006, there was still some testing, custom tires, refueling and the old style aero.
Also the Lotus looks like a really good car, great traction and very easy on the tires.

Petrov and Heidfeld scored their podiums in the 1st and 2nd races. After that, Heidfeld managed a 7th in Turkey and Petrov a 5th in Canada. After that, the best result any of the Lotus driver's pulled was 9th place. For the entire year....
Both Kimi and Grosjean have a good deal more points than any Lotus driver had last year, even after only seven races. To say the cars are incomparable is an understatement.

Kimi makes me sad these days. he looks even less motivated now than he did in his last season with ferrari. grosjean is starting to match him on pace - and once he gets his race craft sorted out, i think kimi's in a bit of strife.
he has the ability to be the best, but he has to want it. and it dosnt look like he does at the moment.
