Ted Kravitz @tedkravitz Lewis Hamilton could be in trouble with race stewards again - he's just been called to answer Rosberg's charge that LH ruined his lap..
To explain: Lewis slowed down at the end of his out lap to make a gap ahead. That backed Nico into him, compromising the Merc's lap.
I thought I'd save DMN the trouble of splitting my post off to create a new thread. Lewis Hamilton has been called to the stewards and could potentially face a penalty.
Personally I think the onus was on Rosberg to leave himself adequate space in front, and not rely on everything being perfect especially on a street circuit like Valencia.
Your thoughts?

If Hamilton is penalised, then we can safely write off McLarens weekend at this awful circuit.
This is very boring, it has to be said, I hope he isn't penalised but I suppose it might come down to how much space there was in front of Hamilton when he started to back off.

Both on out laps.
They've never before given a penalty for two drivers both being on outlaps and the one in front making space. I'll be shocked, amazed, disgusted if they do this time.

BOTH of them were on warming up laps. Finding a gap is part and parcel of quali. There were only 10 cars and this is a massive long track with a time of 1m40, so Rosberg shouldn't have found it so hard.
I've never seen this punished before on warm up laps because the driver behind does the same thing.
Looks like Hamilton might be setting another new precedent in F1?
Oh and you have to slow down at corners.

At other tracks that wouldn't be a punishable offence, but due to turns 21 to 25 being blind at VLC, drivers aren't allowed to go slow there

We saw it live in the broadcast. Rosberg caught Hamilton just before the last corner.

Yeah but they was both on outlaps! You're supposed to give yourself space to account for this

They will, you'll see, it's Lewis Hamilton after all. They've never before given a penalty for two drivers both being on outlaps and the one in front making space. I'll be shocked, amazed, disgusted if they do this time.

If Rosberg was on a outlap i can't see Hamilton being punished.

"We know it's tricky in the last sector here and there is an agreement in place to stop things like this happening so it's frustrating."
disclaimer: I'm not rooting for a penalty.

Quite, but we were watching whoever it was coming up behind them, finishing their lap (can't remember who at this point). If they slowed any more, they would have impeded someone on an actual hot lap.

I can't see how this can be judged a wrong-doing from Hamilton. It was Rosberg who was the clumsy one.

The qualification that "due to turns 21 to 25 being blind at VLC, drivers aren't allowed to go slow there" is pathetic. Surely one should apply such logic to suggest that one can't go slow on any part of the Monaco circuit.

Haug - "While Nico's first run in Q3 put him P1, his second ended in traffic as he caught a car in the final sector where you are not allowed to slow down."
If there is an agreement in place that nobody should slow down in sector 3, then Hamilton deserves a penalty.

Rosberg had the option and the duty to let Maldonado (who was on a hot lap) past if he wanted a clean lap, he chose not to.

Don't talk such common sense.Have the stewards never seen the queue that develops at Rascasse at Monaco every year when qualifying?

Will everyone else who posted the same or a slower time in that sector on their out laps be penalized along with Lewis?
Some were probably slower than Lewis through that sector but doubt that will be looked into.

Surely, surely no penalty can be given. maybe a token reprimand. A penalty would be laughable / deplorable / abhorent / everything wrong with f1 / etc

The second part of Kravitz's tweet shows it's official: "he's just been called to answer Rosberg's charge that LH ruined his lap.."

Rosberg had the option and the duty to let Maldonado (who was on a hot lap) past if he wanted a clean lap, he chose not to.
Surely it would be up to his team to let him know that he was behind him. By the point Maldonado was close enough, had Rosberg tried to let him through, he would have to sit still on the exit of the fast right-hander leading to the hairpin.
I feel you're being hasty in apportioning blame to the drivers, it looked to me just how things work out with traffic, which wasn't actually a big deal as two of them were on outlaps.

Does anyone know the actual wording of the rules on this? If its never been specified by the FIA they can't dish out punishments. Or are they gonna start writing separate rules for Hamilton in hindsight of incidents.....

Posted 23 June 2012 - 16:10
If they were both on outlaps, then any penalty applied would be absolutely ludicrous and unjust. If Rosberg was on a lap though, then the penalty would be warranted. I'm quite certain it was the former though, as does everybody here.
The qualification that "due to turns 21 to 25 being blind at VLC, drivers aren't allowed to go slow there" is pathetic. Surely one should apply such logic to suggest that one can't go slow on any part of the Monaco circuit.
This.
Rosberg and Hamilton were on outlaps, you cannot say Lewis slowed rosberg and ruined his lap. These things happen in qualifying we all know that and no one penalized for such a thing before.
