Can anyone identify the actual event these pics were taken at as it will help identify some of the cars and drivers if I can find a reportThe roll of negatives were recently listed on EBAY.
It was unfortunate the collection of negatives were broken up and sold one roll at a time.
Wherever it was it looks like a cold windswept day and location.

The following approximately 150 unreserved auctions are for the dispersal of a recently discovered archive of original mainly 35mm B/W rolls of negatives of time trials, autotests, rallies, hill climbs & curcuit races at various locations to include Firle [BARC], Bexhill, Blandford Circuit, Bramley, Brighton, Brunton Hill Climb, Castle Combe, Eastbourne, Goodwood, Hartwell, Hastings, Ilfracombe, Lulsgate, Mallory Park, Measham, MG Chiltern, MG Firle, Moreton Valence, RAC RAlly, Redex, RSAC [Royal Scottish Automobile Club], Tarrant Hill Climb, Thruxton, Walsingham all circa 1950's, a large quantity of Veteran Car Rallies circa 1950's-70's plus other types of motor sport to include the British Grand Prix of 1963 & 1965 etc etc. [In all approximately 110 auctions are for cars and 40 are for motorcycles which include the MCC Lands End & Exeter trials etc etc].

ted thanks for that
Checking Autosport it is most likely the Sprints mid june 1952 described as "weather turned sour" unfortunately no XK's listed in Autosport report, does anyone have a program or complete list of competitors for this event?

The car Reg No WV 2915 (about half way through the group) is MG J2895, then owned by W G Nicholls. He entered the GAC Speed Trials on 29/04/51 & came 7th in the 1100cc class. he also entered the same event on 16/10/49. The only other known event for that car was the Brighton Speed Trials in 1950. So, if the location is Gosport, logic would say most probably 29/04/51 or 16/10/49.

My info would have come from contemporary reports. They will be referenced, but I don't have them immediately to hand at the moment.

thanks for that I did some checking in Autosport and came up with the following dates from july 1951 for events to do with Gosport.
Given the poor weather and the white XK120 featured I am guessing that pics are from the mid june 52 event which ties up with dates on the other negatives that were up for sale.
My purpose in this was to identity the XK120 roadster at the event which I believe now to be the Freed car.
As a matter of interest where did you get the report for the 16th oct 1949 event?
terry

events and competitors in the Gosport Automobile club included
12-8-1951 Trial AD Gill XK120
16-9-1951 Sprint meeting W Freed XK120 only XK in event
mid june 1952 Sprints "poor weather " no XK's listed in partial results in Autosports but very likely that pics are from this event
10-8-1952 Annual rally no XK's mentioned in the report.

Now available and over half of the limited edition sold

The long awaited for, second edition of the book "the Jaguar XK in
Australia" is in fact 1/3 of a 3 volume trilogy.
This just on 500 page, large size format 335mm x 247mm (13"x 10"), full colour book covers
the histories of some almost 1000 XK120's in Africa, Asia, Australia/NZ and
South America.
It contains almost 1,100 photos of which only 25 appear in the original volume.

Photo 7 shows Robin N. Richards in his 1172cc Special, however this is not the same chap who commentated for the B.B.C.

This is the car on the left of the little picture under my name.
