Thinking about going to Silverstone for this event, does anybody who has been before know if you can get up close to the cars to see the 'works' and talk to the team members?

You must be a famous person (invited) with a pit-pass, or know someone in media (and get the invitation), or to know someone within the team (and be invited). It's not easy, unless it is an organized public-PR event.

If it's anything like Formula Student Germany, you'll have no problems going into the pits and chatting with the engineers. It's all very open and inviting.

I decided to go! The whole thing was very open and relaxed you could wander around at will, talk with virtually anybody and as with most students they were very willing to discuss their projects. Some very interesting and well made parts.

Participated in the North America equivalent for a few years when I started university. Based on the attendance we see here, any attendees would be greatly welcomed.
