He and Fernando aren't the best of the friends... if you know what I mean...
They don't have to be. They're both Spaniards and Alonso knows Alguersuari is a fragile punk and will never be as fast as him... kind of like Piquet Jr..

He is going to Ferrari. Think about it.
No chance! Ferrari wants more experienced driver, it will be Massa or Kovalainen....who both are better than Alguersuari.

Massa has never been the same since his accident and Kovalainen has never been any good anyway. I'd take Alguersuari before either of them. However, I'd also take Perez, Sutil, Maldonado and Hulkenberg before Alguersuari. No chance! Out of principle I doubt Ferrari would take leftovers from the Red Bull junior team.
Or they would knowing that Alguersuari was undervalued by RB. If they can take RB's rejects and prove that they were actually better than Marko thought, wouldn't that put Marko's reputation down a few more steps?

I bet they would if they were fast enough, but if that were the case they would still be in the RB program.

I'd add Vergne and Ricciardo too. They've been erratic and very unconsistent. They can maybe learn, but right now if I wanted a driver for my team, I'd pick Alguersuari over them.
+1
Toro Rosso should have kept him to serve as benchmark... I'm sure that if so either Vergne or Ricciardo would have looked considerably worse than him. Jaime alone by this time of the year had gotten 12 points meanwhile that's not even what Vergne and Ricciardo have gathered together.
And some may say that's because today's Toro Rosso is worse (maybe yes, maybe not we may know better with an experience driver as Jaime was), but if comparing Jaime to Vettel when he was at Toro Rosso was fair, then it've got to be fair also to compare drivers from just one season of difference.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About the topic itself... Well, I don't think he'd go to Caterham, Marussia or HRT. He could be at either of those if he had wanted to I think.

I like Jaime a lot and I'd be interesting to see what he can do in a competitive car.
Put him in the 2nd McLaren
Just saying. What if Button keeps on with his mediocre performances in comparison to Hamilton? I think his complaints about the car are reasonable and I don't understand why McLaren and Button can't fix their issues... But could McLaren get tired of him and hire Alguersuari and go for a similar policy than Ferrari does with a clear #1 and a #2 as Ron Dennis used to do during most of his years?
Perhaps our guess' are the wildest ones though

He seems to have a lot of drive and passion to want to get back into F1 too so that's good. I'm not saying he's great in any way but good enough.
Looking at the current field, I don't know who will take him instead of HRT :s. Other midfield teams have strong reserve drivers itching to get in themselves, so his options are limited there, and I don't think a top team will want him as I expect Mclaren,RB,Ferrari,Mercedes to keep their current driver lineup.
I do think he might do a better job than the current Toro Rosso drivers though.

Well Pic, de la Rosa, Narain, probably Glock, also Ricciardio and Vernge, Senna, there's seven.
Go ahead, name eight drivers from the grid that are worse than Alguersuari.
Possibly Hulkenberg, Kobayashi, Schumacher, Massa etc too if Alguersuari really is a big time star and better than the average midfield standard

Glock is better than Alguersuari, I would say De La Rosa maybe is not as fast as Alguersuari but better overall.Hulkenberg,Kobayashi,Schumacher and Massa (on his good form )are all better than Alguersuari.

I only agree with Narain, Senna, and the STR boys for now... can't really rate Pic.
Other than those i want some of what you are smoking.

Didn't Massa qualify p2 , ahead of his team mate Alonso, in his very first race back from his accident, and finish 2nd?
Alguersuari was not even good enough to keep a midfield seat, to suggest hes even as good as those drivers is hilarious. He was a very ordinary driver who was lucky to survive his first season, when he was miles off the pace consistently of his team mate. He deserves a seat in the GP2 F1 cars, but nothing more.

For once we agreeThe speed pack will be 4 for 4! Be great having him back in the saddle. I can only hope the assumption that he has signed is correct. I would hope that he moves up rather than back, but having him back will be great.
I find it exciting that he will be back next year, I liked him and I thought he had potential. He was learning a lot and making big steps forward at a constant rate. Last year he didn't perform at the beggining of the year, but then he got his stuff sorted out and carried on and got some good performances, finishing 7 and 8 in some races.
Makes you wonder what he'd do with Button's McLaren I don't think he would be any worse than Button

Alguersuari is a little overrated around these parts, drivers of his calibre are a dime a dozen, and then you have someone like Pastor who is much quicker and brings buckets of cash as well.
Pastor might be faster, but he's a psychopath.
I'd hire Jaime before him.

Focusing on Caterham though, it seems a bit bizarre if they've stated their pleasure at both drivers' performance but have already decided that they're booting at least one of them and we're not quite half-way through the season. I guess one always has to worry about Petrov's drive security (I'd say more recently due to unreliable sponsors more than his driving) but he's performed well and kept Kovalainen honest - if anything I'd say he's prompted Kovalainen to up his game, so I'd say they're both performing really well for the team. I'm just wondering however whether Kovalainen has already told the team that he wants to be elsewhere next year?
One would assume van der Garde would be next in line, but if Kovalainen has already decided he's going to leave, perhaps Caterham wouldn't want Petrov teamleading with a rookie, so perhaps take on Alguersuari for his experience and re-evaluated the situation with van der Garde for 2014?
Or maybe they'll just have Alguersuari with van der Garde next year anyway, just to prove me wrong.

The only team where I can see a palce for him would be TorroRosso, but that is very very unlikely. The other teams are either full or prefer drivers who bring money.
Again... It's Toro Rosso. With just 1 R. When is people here going to learn how to spell it?
I don't think he will be back if not in a team like HRT with the Spanish connection. I think he wants to be back. Sorry to say but I don't miss him and I don't see him as "extremely" talented either.
But again, I don't think that's correct since he himself turned down already the HRT drive for this season, isn't it? Besides he said in those recent reports that he is talking with teams not only from the bottom back of the grid.

I hope Alguersuari won't go to Ferrari, being paired with Alo will probably be the end of his career...

So you really meant, he was not the same driver after his accident, except the very first race after his accident? and I guess Germany 2010?
He has side effects from his accident that occasionally affect him? Sounds pretty strange. He is either not the same after accident or he is exactly the same.

Seriously.... he won't be back, the guy has done nothing to deserve this hype... slow and doesn't do much....plus he has a bad attitude.
Slow? Alguersuari was clearly outperforming Buemi last year and he had a few really surprisingly great drives.
Bad attitude? I recall Alguersuari being very humble in his interviews. He was always careful with his words and I think he was trying not to step on any toes.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you probably just don't like the guy.

Ferrari aims for a Vettel, they hardly will go for someone who was dropped of a mid-field team.
Why? I thought he was a midfield driver same as Jamie !

Massa can sometimes have good weekends, but honestly, yes, I do think he is not the same after his accident. The 2008-9 Massa would produce good weekends as the norm; now it is the exception. So you really meant, he was not the same driver after his accident, except the very first race after his accident? and I guess Germany 2010?

de la Rosa, Karthikeyan, Pic, Petrov, Senna and Massa are my uncontroversial choices. Kovalainen and tossup between Maldonado or Schumacher are my controversial choices. But it's not a thread about them, the point is Jaime is good enough to be on the current grid.
Wow, wow, wow...
Despite the fact that Massa is not at his best, I wouldn't rate him lower than Alguersuari at all.
Kovalainen is quite a consistent driver, beating Trulli confortably and Petrov, of course. Maldonado is a 'crasher' but there is no doubt that the guy has a lot of speed! And rating Alguersuari at the same level than Schumacher, the current one, is also a bit too much. He couldn't barely beat Buemi in many races or lead him clearly.
I'm spanish (catalan) and I could see how he speaks and justified in his language his multiple errors and gave me a not very good impression. He had some good races, but for me he is light years behind of those many drivers you mention there.

That's too simplistic. I would never criticise De La Rosa for example, who's extremely respectful, or Gene in his old times. I simply don't like the way Alguersuari has clearly expressed that the team messed up his race in many ocasions when in fact he has not been up to the level in many races as well.

Yes, you might be right, maybe he said (once?) that the team messed up his race, so? You don't know how was his relationship with the team, how they treated him there, etc. so you are only basing your opinion on that? That's too simplistic. I've seen him in many interviews, english, spanish, catalan... about formula 1 and about other stuff, and he has always been respectful and friendly.
If you say he's so unrespectful and cocky, maybe you can point me to some videos/interviews where we can clearly see that.

"This year no, but next year we will for sure be competing in the championship at cent per cent" assured without doubting Alguersuari
I don't know if he means that its 100% sure, or that he will be competing at 100% level
but the article title is "Next year I will compete in Formula 1 for sure"
