Why would the want to hire Alguersuari if the can go for Perez?.

Pérez lost to Alguersuari in 2011, while Sauber finished ahead of STR...

My wish choices are Sauber or Force India... Hulkenberg isn t performing as expected (not by me. :) and Koba isnt improving any further compared to his previous seasons...

"I simply don't like the way Alguersuari has clearly expressed that the team messed up his race in many ocasions when in fact he has not been up to the level in many races as well."

He had the right to be critical, especially 2010 was terrible... Slow pitstops cost him at least 5 points in Barcelona and Yeongyeam (2010), the team made a wrong strategic decision at Spa-Francorchamps and they didn t prepare him a car on time after his best quali in Singapore... And btw. I don t really remember him criticising.

It is quite normal that they ask Fernando before signing anyone. That applies for Red Bull and Vettel as well. Stop dreaming and get real about this!

PS. I do not think Jaime is such a good driver, but where will Perez go?

Actually not true...Turun Sanomat only does mention that Kovalainen is on the top of Peter Sauber's list, they don't write a word about Alguersuari, that info came from another source...I thin it was f1fanatics or something.

Perez will most likely stay at Sauber but Kobayashi will not.

You're right, reports added Alguersuari's comments next to the Sanomat ones, and I guess someone took them as if he himself said them:

Perez has signed for Ferrari, so there's a seat there.

If Ferrari deny signing a driver and show no interest in the press, then they've signed him.

I'd add Vergne and Ricciardo too. They've been erratic and very unconsistent. They can maybe learn, but right now if I wanted a driver for my team, I'd pick Alguersuari over them.

And add Hamilton/Button as well. Certainly Jaime would do much better in the best car that those two.

Rubbish.

Asked in the European Grand Prix press conference whether he has previously had a say in team’s other choice of driver Alonso said: “In the past, never. Now, in Ferrari, yes.”

The important quote however is:

Asked if he could veto a potential driver Alonso said: “I doubt – we talk but, at the end, it’s their decision.”

So Alonso does not decide the driver, but Ferrari asks for his opinion.

Kobayashi is most likely staying at Sauber next year, the team is built around him and Peter has too much respect to drop him only after 1 SUB-PAR season after he has done so much for the team in there hard times, he would have more points than Perez if it wasn't for bad luck.

True and, for all we know, Kobayashi could put in some really impressive drives in the second half of this season. He's already had a few shining moments, but they've all been overshadowed by Perez throwing himself onto the podium twice.

I think at least one Sauber driver will leave the team next year, but they'll both still be driving since they're both far too good to cast out of the sport. Sauber might be the best bet for Alguersuari.

no, Peter Sauber is said to be dissapointed for both of his drivers according to the rumours in paddock, he wants a driver who is fast and can finnish races. Kobayashi will be dropped but Perez will most likely stay unless he will go to Ferrari after all but that doesn't seem very likely.

That might very well be, however could you see Ferrari rocking the boat, unless they do want to shake up Alonso's cage? I don't, thus if Alonso doesn't want someone in the team, that closes that subject for all practical purposes.

Probably you are right, but outside of McLaren I think this is normal. If a team has a strong lead driver and is fully happy with the results, his work ethics and everything, they will not shake the cage.

This whole Ferrari-Alonso thing is overblown: Ferrari management will do as they please. They did a good job forcing Todt, Brawn, Byrne and Schumacher (politically) out and thus destroying the 'dream-team' in the process. :smoking: :stoned:

JA had a quite interesting learning curve. One of those curves you would want to keep to see where it ended.

Alguersuari was dropped after a very good season for him, so it makes me think we haven't seen everything JA has to offer because Marko told Jaime that he had to win a race in order to go to Redbull. Yeah, good look with that Marko, I'm sure Ricciardo or Vergne will do that this season, or next season if they have a car like this year's or last year's.

Really? In 2011 Buemi had only 63% of Alguersuari s scored points... Buemi didn t improve or at least match his own top quali and race results since 2009! And also best grid (6th and 7th) and race positions (2x 7th) in last season came from.. guess who...

Jaime may not be as good as Schumi/Massa as someone has mentioned above, but comprable to the likes of Hulk/Kobayashi and most certainly better than Senna/Pic/De le Rosa/Narain.

Midfield this year is pretty hard to call, but he's certainly better than senna.

I've also heard him in spanish, and IMHO, he's never been disrespectful nor pedantic, etc. He always tried being friendly, polite and showed to be a good sport when bad stuff happened, even after being sacked. :well:

In this regard, I've heard several older, more mature, "top drivers", with PR advisory teams behind etc., foul-mouth their own teams, so..

For christ sake, he was born in 1990! how many of you were already watching motorsports by then? give the guy a break..

Oh, yes cherry picking statistics to the rescue.

Had to search for it and did not re-check:

points ALG 26 - BUE 15
Qualifying - 11-8 for BUE
Races (who finished higher) 10-8 ALG [with one double DNF]
Two more DNF by BUE - 5, ALG - 3
Reasons:
Buemi: Hydraulic, Wheel, Technical, Accident damage x2
Alguersuari: Accident damage, Accident, Wheel

Buemi had some very some unlucky DNF in the second part of the season. Japan, Abu Dhabi and particularly India, he was eighth at the time, that's four points and two less for Alguesuari for example.

Cherry picking stats:
Buemi - is CLEARLY FASTER

Edit: He is 38% better at qualifying, 38%! imagine that.

He will not be back next year. Simple. Many other drivers before him say that they will be back next year 100%. And they didn't come back.
He could be good reserve driver and he will look good next to tyre equipment. Or he can be pit lane reporter. This is also return in F1.

Yes, poor Buemi with his bad luck... :drunk: Alguersuari retired after qualifying 6th at Spa after Senna crashed into him... Why are you ignoring this? Buemi was on points few times, in Spa and Abu Dhabi. He was only 11th in Suzuka after pitting... The fact that Buemi was faster OVER ONE LAP is known and I can live with it... But generally he WAS NOT faster over a race distance... And btw., Buemi had a lot of luck in 2010, which you didn t mention... Alguersuari lost points in Barcelona, Yeongyeam and Spa... You are paying too much atention to one lap pace... Races are decided on Sunday and not on Saturday...

I agree.

Jaime deserves a drive, he’s probably better than one-third of the current grid, still very young (only 22!) and he was really coming to life in the second half of 2011. Only problem was that being decent wasn’t good enough for the Red Bull junior team, and in my opinion he joined F1 too early, in terms of both age and experience.

That sounds like Force India, Sauber or maybe Williams. It won't be Torro Rosso and certainly not Caterham, Maurissa or HRT. Nor does it sound like Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull or Lotus.

With Williams, I do get the feeling that they will stick with their drivers for another year. So this leaves Sauber and Force India. Personally I would love Jaime to go to Sauber but not at the expense of losing Kobi unless he has a seat elsewhere.

Agree totally. Jaime is great but not better than Koba - F1 needs a driver like Kamui.

Still seems like it is Sauber though.

He himself said during the winter that he wouldn't drive for a team like HRT or Marussia so I don't know why people suggested he may go there.

Force India? That would be nice I guess. But I'd rather Sauber or Williams if I was him.

He mentioned especifically Force India, Williams and Sauber as his target teams for 2013.

http://www.formula1f...rsuari-for-2013

“I am sure that next year, whether or not there are many (driver) movements, I will be in Formula One again.” Alguersuari told Spanish newspaper Marca.

“Obviously, I’m not asking for a car to win, only a team that gives me the ability to be among the top 10 consistently.

“This year, (it would be) teams like Williams, Sauber and Force India. A team with these characteristics.”

I think he already signed with Sauber, whether Pérez finally leaves, or he stays and Kobayashi is the one leaving the team, Jaime would be a Sauber driver next year.

Points are given after races, not after Q sessions.

That´s why Jaime ended with more points than Buemi, because he proved to be a better race driver.

My impression was that Jaime improved a lot, with brilliant moments (Spa, Korea) while Buemi didn´t progress at all.
