Been getting into F3 lately and considering heading out to the Far East for this year's Macau races since I have a few weeks left of holiday to take this year, just wondered if anyone else has been to this event and what it is like both for accommodation and for viewing/photography at the event.

Cheers

You're in for a treat. I went in 2008 and it is without doubt the best race meeting i have been too. So different to anything else.

I took a Saturday morning ferry from HK and stayed at the Holiday Inn on the Saturday night, just a few paces from Lisboa Corner. It wasn't that expensive and alot of the teams/media also stayed there. Then caught a Sunday night ferry back to HK.

On the Saturday, we walked the track (as best we could) through the various side-streets/hospital carparks. You can find many great vantage points along the way, We got some great photos from Donna Maria and Melco during the F3 qualifying race. If you are willing to take a few chances, you can get into some amazing places to shoot cars.

On the Sunday, we were stirred in our beds by the sound of FBMW warm-up echoing through the buildings. (strange and very cool!) We had a grandstand ticket for the Lisboa grandstand for the day. This is a great place to watch as you are almost guaranteed some action plus there is a big screen opposite so you don't miss a thing. The racing was great, the atmosphere electric, the Saturday night parties 'interesting'.;)

As a reprise, i went to the Pau GP last year. Very different to Macau, but still worth the weekend away!

Thanks for the reply, would love to see any photos you took. Decided against it for 2012, but might go next year, would be good to meet up with any forumites also planning the trip.
