It may well have been a home reno!
I haven't seen pics of that particular car or a standard GT3.
I was also wondering how much faster a GT2 version would be. But it may not be, since the GT2 has less power and more weight than the GT3!
The 458 GT2 did win its class (GTE pro) at Le Mans last year.
GT2/GTE has similar amounts of power to GT3 actually, more weight but should also have more downforce (in theory, the latest GT3 aero mods may have overturned that too).

As many as three V8-powered Ford Focus entries could be on the grid at the Bathurst 12 Hour next February. The build of the cars is already underway at Pace headquarters in Queensland, with RRyan McLeod set to campaign them in a variety of endurance events across the globe in place of his current production-based Holden Astras..
They should be strong runners! Are they the Kugel versions from the USA?

Three Ford Focus V8s have been given the green light to race in the 2014 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour following the addition of a fourth invitational class. the Ryan McLeod-run cars feature a purpose built chassis fitted with Focus body panels, a 5.0 litre Ford Coyote engine and an Albins transaxle gearbox.
A second Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG from last year's race winners Erebus Motorsport is the most high profile addition so far for the 2014 Bathurst 12 hour. Victorian state-level team Vicious Rumour Racing has also joined the field, adding a fourth Ferrari 458 GT3 to those entered by Maranello Motorsport, AF Corse and Clearwater Racing.
Maranello has this week confirmed its full driving squad, with Finn Mika Salo returning alongside John Bowe, car owner Peter Edwards and Craig Lowndes. .

Somewhere someone has lost the plot. These are supposed to be production cars. A V8 Focus with a Albins transaxle is some sort of weird Sports Sedan! The more I read here the less interest I have in the whole effort.Three Ford Focus V8s have been given the green light to race in the 2014 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour following the addition of a fourth invitational class. the Ryan McLeod-run cars feature a purpose built chassis fitted with Focus body panels, a 5.0 litre Ford Coyote engine and an Albins transaxle gearbox.

I have no issues with Ferraris and the like,, but Production cars, as they are produced by the factory. Springs, shocks and brake pads should be free, as too exhaust. Though one off specials should be excluded. Mininum roduction numbers of at least 300 should be enforced.
The public will get behind such an event far more than a pack of hot rods that have no relevance to what they see on the streets. Remember the crowds that have gone missing at stupidcar events.

Yeah I've no idea why Ford Focus bodied V8 powered silhouette racer are being allowed into a 12hr GT/Production based endurance race. Odd.

I preferred it before they allowed the GT class. Once they had a joker time, then I lost all interest. I won't be going unless I have friends in support categories, and I only live 6km from the track.

They're dumping the joker time rule next year FYI.

Similar rules to the Dubai 24h, the spaceframe stuff is classified as touring cars basically.

Nissan’s GT-R nameplate could return to the Mount Panorama podium next year as the manufacturer assesses an entry in the 2014 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour. The rear-wheel-drive, twin-turbo, V6 machine would be an outright contender in the Bathurst 12 Hour field, and according to Nissan’s global motorsport boss, Darren Cox, will likely be on the grid next year.
A little bit off-topic, but it reminded me of this footage which I don't think I will ever get sick of:

Bathurst 12 Hour organisers have paid tribute to Allan Simonsen by naming a new pole position trophy in honour of the late Dane. very sadly Allan got killed in the opening stages of this years Le Mans 23 hour race. A fitting thought of the organizers of the Bathurst 12 hour to honour such a great man and a talented race driver

One-time F1 racer Markus Winkelhock will headline United Autosport’s Bathurst 12 Hour. The former Spyker F1 driver and Audi customer sports racer will be joined by rookie Eric Lux and United Autosports regular Mark Patterson in the team’s Audi R8 LMS Ultra.
And as a clarification, that is NOT the Eric Lux of Adrian Sutil champagne glass and Genii Capital fame, it is a different US-based Eric Lux who has been racing in the ALMS for the last couple of years.

Damn that's fast! and only first practice for the "top" class. Could a 2:04 (or 2:03!!) be possible in qualifying?
IMO perhaps V8 supercars could be a little embarrassed by their new cars which were slower than their old ones, though it is unfair to compare bespoke mid-engined sportscars with compromised saloons.

Session 3 had the Rick Kelley GTR fastest@ 2.06.6
06
Though session 1 had the Russel Lambo fastest at 2.05.9.There is some in car footage on Speed Cafe of the lap and it seems slow, complete with a heap of tyre squeal. But the clocks do differ!
The V8 Focus's are best at 2 18s.
This race seems to be run what you brung. I don't understand the rules,, what rules!

How sweet does that Merc SLS look?
Nothing like the Lambo/Ferrari/Audi/Mclaren racecar look, more like something a 14yo boy would come up with ... and I mean that in a good way.
