Mods, sorry if been posted already.

But annoyed about this it surely wasn't that expensive, more about advantages being lost I guess. I remember Todd said something about test happening next year whether the teams agreed or not. Hope so.

This was the correct decision in my opinion, the way the format was arranged was ridiculous.

Something better needs to be proposed.

It was stupid, most teams did not even want to go.

Correction, the pinnacle of motorsport doesn't want to test their cars. I'd quite like to see testing back, with the correct regulations of course, but there just seems to be so little desire for it from the people it's meant to benefit. What can you do :well:

So would I but given everything is being dumbed down, no surprise at this decision.

Well most of them said going to Mugello was a waste of time due to the layout having no major resemblance to any tracks in the rest of the year and the fact it was expensive (anyone saying it isn't expensive to send the drivers, team members, car, parts, everything required to a 3 day test session is so wrong it's untrue, it is expensive), though they could've gone somewhere else. However, it's not loopy, it's sensible, the teams have said 3 pre season tests is enough, they're happy with that, they've agreed to it, so no real issue. It's not like it's been forced onto them with them moaning saying they want to keep it or they want an extra pre season test in return, they've agreed to it, so it's fine.

If the test was held in Britain where most of the teams are from, then it would make more sense financially. Testing in Italy is expensive for most of the teams and a logistics nightmare. They obviously can't suit everybody but I'd satisfy the majority on matters such as this.

And when a test gets rained off?

3 tests pre-season are enough, but they should space them out more - at present there is little time to bring anything but pre-planned updates, that are in production before testing even begins. If you run the car on track and it doesn't work as expected you can't really bring anything pre-season to resolve it.

Just give them about 10 days a year with a 300km limit each day, wherever they want (Ferrari at fiorano, Force India at Silverstone, etc.)

I know this has been proposed before but why not have ~5 race weekend thursdays during the season as test days? People, drivers, equipment etc. is already there so why not?

Something like this would be the obvious solution. I's suggest the Monday after a race though, as if it was on Thursday the teams would just spend all day preparing for the upcoming race on the Sunday! Maybe only do it a few times a year, as you say, the personnel and equipment would already be there. Wouldn't add much in terms of overall costs. Obviously you're paying the team members for an extra days work, but no transport costs for team and equipment.

I like the idea of testing on Monday like MotoGP sometimes do. In fact, F1 does this after the final race at Abu Dhabi too so I don't understand why can't they implement this. It's cost-effective plus the teams would already have a good baseline to start from after running their cars at the track over the weekend, making testing more meaningful.

And when a test gets rained off in Mugello like it did this year?
It's a lot cheaper for most with my suggestion.

Damn!
I want proper testing like before this whole testing ban began! Cost-cutting is getting out of hand.
Guess we'll have privately-driven straight-line tests instead where who knows what can happen!

Pinnacle of motorsport doesn't want to test their cars on track during the season and has moved on from expensive on-track testing to more advanced, and presumably cheaper, simulations instead.

Shame for F1-rookies though.
