The summer break seems to be long this time... here's another topic!
A very big part of a driver's final position is due to his track engineer who gives instructions and takes his part in strategic decisions. But sometimes this dosen't work and causes the engineer to be frustrated with his drive and vice versa. And some of them sound cool on the radio too!
So who you think is the most effective track engineer now?

The criteria is the effectiveness of calls and the percentage of correct ones. And the simplicity of messages during radio, because there's some engineers that make it difficult for the driver to know whats going on.

Rocky is the best for mine. I'm not a Seb fan but I think his engineer is exceptional at getting the strategy calls right, getting his guy out into clear air, saying the right thing at the right moment. He also keeps Seb in line!
The McLaren engineers are horrible. So fake sounding, and always telling their drivers a load of BS. I don't feel the trust between driver and engineer for either guy there.
Mark and Ciaron work well together, never hear Mark losing his cool with Ciaron so I presume there is mutual respect there. Ciaron seems creative, but is prone to the odd major strategic blunder it would seem.
I'm not sure about Alonso's engineer, they spend so much time talking in Italian it's difficult to tell.

We get to hear like 0.01% of these messages. Impossible to answer the question of course.

I like them all for different reasons. Rob Smedley is obviously hilarious and should have a go in a car of his own, Stella and ALO have an amazing relationship, Rocky has the sexiest radio voice (seriously, I wish he did books on tape) and has mastered the balance of supporting his driver and also keeping him in check. He knows when to leave Seb to it, when he needs encouragement, when he needs to be calmed down. The rest of them sound incompetent half the time, but they can only be as good as the other men on the wall, in the garage, and at HQ. special mention for Pasta's RE who posts really good turn by turn track guides on twitter each week.

I was thinking about why I find the McLaren engineers a bit different. I think it's because they often - no doubt endeavouring to boost morale - provide information that appears to be outright wrong (e.g the driver in front is slowing down due to tyre deg, or "you're catching him" when they're not). At other times the communication between driver and engineer can sound downright antagonistic. Maybe that's a cultural thing though, I think all four parties are British. The Italian approach appears to be more placating and cajoling. For Red Bull, Rocky handles Seb a bit like he's an older brother. Ciaron and Mark sound like they are mates.

But he was fired by Ferrari, so what does he know!

Fired for screwing up the strategy in the championship deciding race! maybe they used the "You're as good as your last race" logic with him.

Indeed, disgraceful scapegoating on Ferrari's part; didn't Stella ask Alonso to use the best of his talent to get past Petrov? I remember him saying the same thing in Valencia that year, except, Kobayashi managed to sneak past him
.I'm glad Ferrari didn't win anyway, it was thoroughly deserved by Vettel who had been marred by various technical problems, which almost gifted Alonso the championship.

Stella does not appear to be the one in charge but the dynamics works. Stella gives the information and the occasional encouragement and Alonso does the work with the info provided.
Rocky does seem like the one in charge but at the same time he doesn't throw it in your face. Gently encouraging, giving information and telling Vettel what needs to be done (laps to x delta and so forth) in order to make the strategy work.
Ciaron and Marks relationship appears to be a different but equal situation with Ciaron providing info when necessary but i have never heard him talk down to Mark. Then again maybe Mark doesn't give him reason to? Mutual respect i guess.

There is no doubt about who is in charge in this relationship as he dictates every aspect right down to driving techniques but does it work to create success or is it just frustration in having to deal with an under performing driver ?? We have seen times when he himself has lost his cool with his driver.
Worst one for me is A. Latham. May as well replace him with a computer. Regardless of whether Hamilton is having a good day or bad day the communication always seems distant cold, dry and impersonal.
