F1 Fans are being priced out of the sport!

When I was a kid, F1 was on a non-pay channel in Sweden so basically everyone interested in sports was watching and had an interest.

Nowadays it is all on pay-tv and of course some of those that got hooked on F1 during the "non-pay tv time" is paying for the channels and watching.

I think though in the long term the number of fans will diminish more and more. Still F1 is profiting from a fanbase created during the time when it was free to see on TV but that base will eventually disappear.

I don't consider it priced out. Almost anyone with a middle class income in North America can afford to attend a GP with some planning.

But why would they?

They could go to Bristol to see a much bigger and better all-American super show (it's jaw dropping really isn't it, even on TV!).

Or if they like road racing they could go to any ALMS/Grand Am or Indycar road race and have a nice picnic in the greenery (and no mesh fences in the way of the view generally too).

F1 car is one of a kind, and as long as that's what you want to see, especially if it is a good one, and your driver has a key to it, there is no suitable substitute to be had.

Part of the problem is the fact there is no F1 running from the end of qualifying until the race.

23 hours without seeing an F1 car isn't good for getting people through the door.

They should allow a warm up again on the Sunday mornings.
