I wonder: is the "stubbiness" a function of the camera you are using and it's short focal length semi-wide angle lens? If you took a photo from further away with a longer focal length would the proportions be better? Certainly in your pictures of groups of cars they don't look "stubby". Just speculating - one of our photumgraphers may know.
Very probably. Back in the days when I often read books on photography in an attempt to improve my skills, I frequently read that the best lens for portraiture was a 90mm, or 9cm as we used to say back then. I quite often have to photograph smallish inanimate objects, and often find that a lens of around that focal length gives the best results from a perspective point of view, I mostly use an 85mm f2.8, as lenses with too wide an angle are noticeably less good. One of the greatest snappers who ever lived, Magnum photographer Robert Capa, used to say "If your pictures aren't good enough, then you aren't close enough", but that was for news photography. For still life work, the opposite is usually true.
