We have five different winning constructors this year and another two were very close.

Which car is quickest at this point of the season? Please vote in this pool. Only quali and race pace matters, don't include tyre management, reliablity etc.

Race pace is determined by tyre management- it's impossible to ignore.

The McLaren is the fastest as per Hamilton's qually results. They just don't seem to figure out the whole weekend though to be able to convert the cars speed into points.

Jep, it's a complete picture to decide which car gets to the line first. Drivers ignored, on outright pace the McLaren has it in the bag in the dry. In the wet Ferrari is usually very good. But on tyre management the Ferrari and Red Bull are better than the Maccas. There is no real fastest at the moment, it's circuit-dependant.

While all the top cars have their strengths, I feel that Kimi's poor qualifying and Romain's failure to make it beyond the first lap on a consistent basis is flattering everyone else to an extent.

I don't know what bag you are talking about but I didn't recall McLaren having best race pace in long time (if any).

So going trough last races:

Hungary: race pace definately inferior to Lotus, and Red Bull too when you look at Button vs Vettel battle
Germany: Button didn't have the pace of RBR and Ferrari, where he was hunted down by Vettel at the end of the race. It should be also noted that Hamilton couldn't pass Alonso despite having fresh tyres
Britain: awful pace by McLaren, even worse than Mercedes'
Valencia: race pace definately worse than Lotus' and RBR's

As long as we have stupid tire rules (regardless of manufacturer) we will never know for sure.

But the quickest in qualy doesn't have to be the quickest in race ;)

It might also depend on which circuit and even the weather.
For the moment it looks like it's between McLaren and Lotus, but that's maybe only because the next stop is Spa.

In the past such a poll would consist mostly from two options. This year there are seven, which is almost whole pack of established teams

Season start it was McLaren.
Mid Season it was Redbull
Wet races it was Ferrari
Lotus always up there but quali is their chink

Now McLaren is back to being the fastest - if only they stopped making such fools of themselves in the pits.

With the disparity in votes between McLaren and Red Bull you wouldn't think they technically had the same amount of pole positions and victories.

McLaren seems fastest at this point. However, that's wild speculation for me but say so anyway. The tyres make the balance of power between the 5 top teams swing a lot. The Lotus and Ferrari are the two cars that have been most consistent across the races to date.

The Melbourne Australian GP has more often than not been a good indicator of who has the fastest car on the grid where both cars qualify 1 & 2.

Mclaren is the fastest car at the moment. But this moment can change anytime and come Spa we might see some one else having the fastest car. Lotus comes a close second. If only for their improved qualifying they could have been the fastest package for the weekend. And then it's a tussle between RBR and Ferrari.

It's between Lotus and Red Bull, because both teams have always had cars that were capable of taking a podium. However, Lotus seems mediocre in the rain so Red Bull just pips it for me.

Mclaren seem to be too inconsistent and have an operation window in which their car works well, and that window is the size of a pea. They don't have any pace in the heat, and none in the wet either.

Ferrari has had a capable/decent car ever since Spain, and probably have the best car when it rains. However, the F2012 was a dog at the start of the season and not that good in Hungary either, so they've been fourth best overall IMO.

Mercedes, Williams and Sauber and hit or miss cars, but it seems that they're more likely to miss than hit.

It changes too much depending on the track, tyres, weather, upgrades etc. to say one car is faster than the rest. And the order changes quite often from qualifying to race. Different cars have different strengths. We don't have a single fastest car so i don't know how anyone can answer this poll.

There isn't really a 'fastest' car per se. The Ferrari was not a good car for the opening four races, but the F2012 seems to have a large operating window so since Spain it's been, say, the 2nd or 3rd best car while the others are inconsistent. It's also very good in wet weather. The Lotus also seems to be consistently quick, while McLaren swings between being fast and being distinctly average. Red Bull also seem to have big swings in performance but when you turn up at a track, they seem to be the team most likely to get both cars in the top 5.

Mercedes was by far the best package in China and possibly the best car in Monaco, but aside from that, no. Williams and Sauber both have very good cars.

So there is no 'fastest' car as it varies from circuit to circuit. But the trend does seem to be for Red Bull and Lotus to be more often than not near the front, while Ferrari is 3rd but fastest in the wet.

The problem with judging the Ferrari is the Massa problem. At all the other teams you can work out where the car is because the performance of the drivers is similar. But at Ferrari you'll always have that eternal question of whether Alonso is massively outperforming a car that should be on the fringes of the top ten or Massa massively underperforming in a car that should be in the top 6 or 7 - or even higher - every race.

I can't disagree with the argument that every race has had a different pecking order. In fact, I don't think a single team has actually had the best car two races in a row. If you want me to take a shot at this, my honest opinion is;

Australia
1. Mclaren
2. Red Bull
3. Williams
4. Sauber or Lotus

Malaysia
1. Sauber
2. Ferrari
3. Williams
4. Red Bull

China
1. Mercedes
2. Mclaren
3. Red Bull
4. Lotus or Williams

Bahrain
1. Lotus
2. Red Bull
3. Mclaren
4. Mercedes or Ferrari

Spain
1. Mclaren
2. Williams
3. Lotus
4. Ferrari

Monaco
1. Mercedes
2. Red Bull
3. Ferrari
4. Mclaren

Canada
1. Red Bull
2. Mclaren
3. Ferrari
4. Lotus or Sauber

Europe
1. Red Bull
2. Lotus
3. Ferrari
4. Williams

Britain
1. Red Bull
2. Ferrari
3. Lotus
4. Sauber or Williams

Germany
1. Mclaren
2. Red Bull
3. Ferrari
4. Sauber or Lotus

Hungary
1. Lotus
2. Mclaren
3. Red Bull
4. Ferrari or Williams

So.
1. RedBull 1,9
2. Ferrai 2,6
3. Mclaren 3,1
4. Lotus 3,4

I think Red Bull drivers have got the most out of an average car.

Alonso propably has had the luckiest/best stop&strategy.

The fact that Vettel, Webber and Kimi made really fast laps in some moment of some single race mean nothing. It's the speed over distance, and everyone is masking it if they don't need to use it.

There is no out-and-out fastest car. There are several fastest cars dependant upon how certain tyres work on certain tracks in certain conditions. Tyres is everything.

So, if 70% believes that McLaren is fastest and Lotus second, how come the McLaren drivers come in on position 4 and 7 and Lotus on 5 and 8?
The Lotus team is made up of two that bounces back from leaving but the McLaren:s where doomed to dominate this season?

Is consistency the key and Alonso the master of it? I beleive so, and upon that Red Bull:s two years of flow spilling over on 2012.

But on an overall basis the Lotus has been mighty quick on a variety of tracks, more so than any other team. I would put the Ferrari right up there as well since Spain.

Hahaha. Finally some one spoke the non sense people like to hear.

What do you want to hear? That the car is rubbish and that the drivers, especially Raikkonen, are flattering it... Or that Raikkonen is doing the best he can...

I've said this before:

But this is just it. When the car does perform well in qualifying then Grosjean sticks it where it belongs, only to mess it up in the race with an incident or poor pace. Kimi is the opposite, no pace in qualifying but fast in the race.

That car should have won multiple races already, that it hasn't is testament to the drivers being poor in one form or the other. I see nothing wrong with what Piquet Jr said.

Not to mention the Andrew Benson piece where Raikkonen admits to under performing in qualifying for Hungarian GP. This cost him the victory and might have in other races as well like Valencia and Bahrain. As I've said that car should have won multiple races already but anything other than blowing Raikkonen's trumpet is frowned upon here. Always searching for crazy reasons for his under performance when the answer is staring them right in the face.

Qualifying currently it has to be the McLaren, they've found that form again (under normal conditions)

Race car the fastest is clearly the Lotus, nearly always has been. IMO the Red Bull is joint second fastest with whatever other car is on form on the day, either McLaren or Ferrari.

So it has to be one way or other, either the drivers suck and car is great or the car is rubbish and drivers are magicians? Must be nice in your black and white world where's no nyances, reasons, charasteristics etc.

That's one qualifying where they admittedly made error with the set up and qualified in terrrrrible slot number 5. Maybe you get frowned upon here because your over simplified statements like car should've won multiple races but it's only because Kimi underperforming that they havent.

In this instance yes, because we have one driver in the team putting the car in great places on the grid when the car is capable and the other not. In the race it is the reverse...

One qualifying? You must be joking... Grosjean has often been at the sharp end while Mr. Raikkonen has been further back... What are the excuses for this?

Qualified 11th in Bahrain, had race winning pace... 5th in Spain but had race winning pace... Same in Valencia... Same in Hungary... In all these instances he qualified behind his teammate and in Bahrain and Hungary it was with a sizeable advantage.

are you nuts??

it was team decision to save tyre in bahrain~~
And in hungary, it was setup related issues, prior to that, he was 2 to 3 tenth faster than romain~!!

he was neck to neck oftenly behind romain~~ hardly underperforming !! and you cant be sure of multiple race wins, as there are many factos play their role in it !! most importantly, team strategies and poor pit stops in which allan mcnish confirmed with others team that claim lotus has serious strategies problem and particular their poor tyre choices which robbed them possible better results in Spain , shanghai and hockeinham!! In bahrain, the team didn't take the risk to pit kimi earlier in order to undercut vettel somethign that williams didn;t hesitated in Spain!!

Go watch some races instead of wikipedia pls~~~
