2020 Vision

Just for fun, iImagine you've nicked Doc Brown's time machine and taken it to the return from the summer break for the 2020 F1 season. Make some predictions for what you think you'll see.

My ideas:
* Veterans Lewis Hamilton and Seb Vettel competing with Maldonado, Perez and DiResta for the WDC.
* Jenson Button still in the hunt for that elusive second title.
* Contoversial decisions by the FIA

-Rookie Hugo Hakkinen aiming for his 1st win after a promising show in the 1st half of the season.

I went multiple times, and each time I went the future was different:

A desolate barren wasteland ravaged by nuclear war

An F1 championship sponsored by Google with F1 cars that drive themselves, the cars are given personality chips to help provide an element of humanity.

The world championship won by the first genetically altered driver at the age of 12.

A same spec championship.

Schumacher still racing at the age of 50.

My guess is this eight-year-old thread will be resurrected so we can laugh at everyone's ideas

F1 only deserves in "world championship" status thanks to the last 2 races in Europe, Monza and Monaco.
The new tracks built in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yemen don't have grandstands. Part of the Yemen track goes under water, through big transparent tunnels.
Williams is now renamed "Force Qatar" and Mercedes "Bahrain Power".
Cars are powered by electric batteries since 2019 but after the fans complained that the cars were totally silent, for 2020 the cars have to play very loud fake engine sounds through mounted loudspeakers. The Ferrari sounds like its 1995 engine, because its cool. 10 spots grid penalty for drivers with malfunctionning loudspeakers.
Bernie Ecclestone had his brain transfered to another body and is still rulling F1.
Ferrari is not happy with the rules and wants a 3rd car for Alonso to make a come-back. They threaten to set up a rival series.

Bernie Ecclestone's floating head threatens Spa Officials there will be no 2021 race if they do not install his Rain-O-Matic and Sun-O-Matic weather systems to the track.

Meanwhile, Vettel wins his 8th WDC, taking over the vaunted MSC, in the dominant Hyundai-McLaren

Bruno Senna still has a famous uncle.

There will be no F1 in 2020.

Because Bernie finally manages to extort every last bit of money in the world, making F1 irrelevant.

Lewis Hamilton continues his historic streak and goes 13 years under investigation.

what i want to see in 2020(if i live till then):

first and foremost,Bernie suffering from amnesia,not ruling F1 anymore..

F1 gone full green,but managed to keep engine sound(produced artificially in sync with rev)..

no driver over 40's

drivers from all continents(inhibited)

a good driver managing to getting proper sponsorship(no more 'pay-driver')

a asian driver fighting for championship

2012 - Hamilton dominates second half of season for McLaren, but still only just pips a determined Alonso to the title at the final race, Button ends the season as it began by winning in Brazil.

2013 - McLaren dominate the season with the best car, Button takes full advantage of some early mistakes from Hamilton and wins 8 of the 20 races, Hamilton wins 6 and Alonso and Vettel claim 3 each, the former narrowly bagging 3rd place in the championship. other notable events include Michael Schumacher announcing his re-retirement at the end of the season, Paul Di Resta moves in from Force India as his replacement for Mercedes.

2014 - Ferrari announce their dream team for the new season having secured Vettel on a 3 year deal from Red Bull, other moves see Webber moving back to Williams and Grosjean and Luiz Razia form Red Bull's new line-up. the season itself sees Ferrari in fine form as Alonso drives supremely to secure his 3rd world title whilst Hamilton and Vettel enjoy a close fight for 2nd place.

2015 - double world champion Jenson Button confirms his departure from McLaren after a disappointing final season with the team, he joins Webber in an experienced line up for Williams. rumours about a falling out between Vettel and Alonso at Ferrari start to surface, with the former suggesting that Alonso was given preferential treatment in the 2014 season. the season itself sees Mercedes and Di Resta the early pace setters, but Hamilton and Alonso's experience shows through as the season goes on, Red Bull endure another turbulent season, picking up a race win in China for Grosjean but otherwise looking well off the pace of McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes.

2016 - another year of Ferrari dominance, the tension between Vettel and Alonso is obvious from the opening race when the two almost come together at turn one in Australia, in the end it's Fernando who takes the title, but only just, Vettel later confirms he is to return to Red Bull for 2017. McLaren struggle for pace in the early stages of the season but rally well to see Hamilton win 3 of the last 4 races, it's not enough for him to catch the Red Bull of Grosjean who claims 3rd place thanks to 3 victories of his own during the season.

2017 - Paul Di Resta replaces Vettel at Ferrari, Mark Webber finally calls it a day for Williams and Fernando Alonso confirms 2017 will be his last in F1. McLaren dominate the first half of the season with Hamilton winning 7 of the first 11 races, Ferrari and Red Bull both finish the season strongly though and Hamilton will claim just one more win on his way to a fourth title, his team-mate James Calado secures his first win in F1 at Monaco and pips the Red Bull drivers to 3rd place.

2018 - now Ferrari's #1, Paul Di Resta is paired with a fiery young Italian rookie by the team, allowing the Scot to easily dominate the season as Ferrari have an excellent car, he claims an impressive 10 wins in 20 races to win his first title. Vettel and Hamilton both enjoy solid seasons and race wins of their own but neither ever really gets close to the pace of the Ferrari at races where the Italian team is on the pace.

2019 -one of the best seasons in years sees a three way battle for the title, Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren all have excellent cars with little to chose between them, each team takes 7 wins out of 21 races in the season, with Di Resta winning his second straight title by just 8 points ahead of Vettel with Hamilton only 11 points back in third place.

2020 - another cracking season sees a tense battle between the McLaren's and Ferrari's, Hamilton this time beating Di Resta by just 13 points, Hamilton's team mate Calado also has a tense season and only just beats Ferrari's #2 to 3rd. the season is also Jenson Button's last in F1, he retires after a 2 year stint with Sauber having previously spent 4 years with Williams, the double world champion calls time on a 20 year career in the sport. shortly after the season ends Red Bull confirm a major investment in their car for 2021 when they hope to return to the top, the news no doubt is welcome for Sebastien Vettel who despite several close title challenges has yet to add to his two world titles.

Fixed it for you.

Alonso will have retired a season or so before as a 4 time WDC (2012 and... ?), Kimi would have quit again after 2015.

Perez will be gunning for a 3rd title, Vettel for a 4th. Maldonado will have been a regular race winner, but ultimately never consistent enough to win the WDC and now consigned to the midfield. Hamilton will win WDC #2 but make a dumb move to a team going backwards.

Two manufacturers will join, the backmarker teams will change hands 100 billion times, and Ferrari, McLaren and RBR will be the top cars over the decade despite a few others making good for a season or so.

Maldonado and Williams become a "force" thanks to $$$, then go off the boil. Mercedes fluctuates wildly, wining some more races and Rosberg only just misses a title. Merc will be long gone by 2020. Some rookie who will make a start in the future, or someone who never had a chance in the last few years (Pic?) will come through an win a title (see Hamilton 2008, Vettel 2010 - neither were driving in F1 8 years before now).

The massive regulation shift that hits every 3 or 4 years will again see some upper-midfield team stumble their way into having the fastest car (see Renault 2005, RBR 2009), and an under-rated driver will win a title like Button did.

Whatever, Bernie would still be threatening to take Vault 13's Grand Prix away unless they sold him their water chip.

Petrol will have become obsolete, and cars will run on renewable fuels, with no wheels but 'Wipeout'/I Robot style gliding with 'magnets'.

Mercedes moved eave, but then come back with a full Stuttgart operation after seeing VW/Audi gain big success, winning races and challenging for titles BMW style. Ferrari start to dominate the earlier part of the decade with the rubber tyres having some epic battles with McLaren after that. RedBull by this time will have been bought out/left. then the Germans start to destroy others with their superior fuel and magnets (?)

After this, Toyota and Honda will want a piece of the pie, and join themselves both operations in their main bases. Ferrari and McLaren cannot cope and become midfield at this time, witHthe big manufacturers fighting it out, F1 becoming a tech war between the Germans and Japanese.

Closer to 2020, China will have become a major superpower, and with their own motor car companies, Bernie will make sure they have a pop, and they introduce their project, but it fails horribly.

The FIA try, but fail stopping this massive techno war and cost run high.

There are no track races, every race happens in a prominent city.

In the drivers, F1 fans see their wish, with Alonso vs Hamilton for a couple years, then when RedBull leaves, Vettel joins the 'new' Mercedes and then seeing their teams fall down the pecking order as they cannot cope with the big German automakers, Alonso retires winning a few more titles and Hamilton moves to VW/Audi team.

Honda come and snap up Kobayashi, and every young driver wants to join one of these Japanese giants.

Vettel and Hamilton with their respective teams have some great fights with the young Japanese teams for the titles, on the normal city roads.

Bernie gets his wishes and directives a happy man with a fortune just after brokering a deal with the Chinese entering. DiResta becomes a sort of 'Alesi' wrong place at the wrong time guy, buying the Chinese car project but it doesn't work.

Ferrari and McLaren's rivalry is just as ferocious as it was at the beginning of the decade, but not for titles anymore as they don't have the spending power. Perez and Rigon drive fore Ferrari winning some races, and challenging for titles at times along with Hulk and Turvey.

Well let's see....

Cars are run on some hybrid engine, with fully integrated KERS and other recovery systems. Some fans still want the V8's we all hate at the moment back.

The FIA stewards are still amateurs that can't decide the difference between deliberate contact and an accidental collision.

Maldonado has just crashed into Vettel for the twentieth time. He blames it on a loose kerb, despite the fact kerbs were eliminated three years back.

The Australian Grand Prix is still under the threat of being dropped, but duly signs a new contract two weeks later.

Mercedes has been sold to Honda, sold back to Ross, then finally sold back to Mercedes again. Schumacher has yet to win his comeback race.

The Indian and Korean races were total failures, and we go back to Austria to make up the numbers. Only caveat is, it's called the Red Bull Grand Prix, who by now sponsor half the world.

Bernie remains in charge.

The title,'2020 VISION', sent chills up my spine as I thought it was a harbinger of what Tony George's future plans were.

My 2020 Vision is still clinging on to the REAL Drivers World Championship
However myopic that may be.
