Does anyone have an explanation why that wheel came off so easily *before* he hit the wall? Does anyone know why he was able to do half a lap before it came off if it was a lug issue? Does anyone care?

the wheel was loose so it came off, why it took half a lap to do so ... I am not sure anybody can answer that except say that's how long it took the nut to come completely off and release the wheel

I saw it flying but hadn't registered that it was off before the impact. Maybe because it was 'only' an HRT. What punishment did Alonso get for that?

I think Hamilton, Grossjean and Maldonado are playing rock, paper, scissors for the blame...

The wheel did not go on properly in the pits, like we've seen several times in the last few seasons. It caused Karthikeyan's crash. The Alonso situation was different I think because Renault actually knew that the wheel wasn't on properly but still sent him out.

The joke has been played too many times now and should be classified as spam.

Wait, what. Afaik Karthikeyan put a wheel on the dirt before getting out of Les Combes and thus spun off.

He did get on the dirt, and maybe that hastened the wheel falling off, chances are it was going to come off as he turned into one of the right handers round the lap anyway, he should be glad it wasn't at Stavelot....

NK should have stopped as soon as he felt something was wrong with his car. MS did that in China
there is no point to drive with a loose wheel and it's very very dangerous, spa being a high speed circuit with a lot of high speed turns.

Maybe it felt better than the usual HRT!

From his radio transmissions "Hey, it's turning like a dream into left handers, this is how a car should be..... next up is a right hander, bit loose..... oh crap!"

*radio transmission could be slightly altered to fit my story.... :p

 title sure is apt.

Funny tho' I don't seem to have seen any reference to a penalty for unsafe release.
Have I missed it or is it because grid backer marker just that?
Maybe a little box on his own a five place equivalent space behind 23rd on the grid for Monza, tho' this'd put him in danger of being one lap down after the first lap.
