i don't post in this form much but I thought that I would just raise this question.

Which F1 cars do you think were the best looking.

For me i like the 82 Williams and the 91 McLaren.

For some strange reason, I always liked the looks of the March 721G, '73 version, despite its tragic history.

When I was young, I loved the Wolf Mk2! Can't imagine why, nowadays...

It's certainly difficult to compare a, say, 1922 Rolland-Pilain to a 1974 Brabham for example, but having to go for one I'd pick the McLaren M7A!

1961 Ferrari 156 aka "Sharknose"
1976 Brabham-Alfa Romeo BT46

Real beauties, the both of them and impossible for me to choose just one over the other.

Impeccable taste, Keir.

I would add another Gordon Murray creation to the list, the Brabham BT52.

When I was a kid, I really liked the Brabham BT44 (74 and 75) but I really hated what they became when McDonald bought and entered it in 1976.

The Lago-Talbot T26C had a beautiful look...

The Lotus 33 was mechanical symmetry at its best in my opinion. Just such a lovely, clean looking car.

david_martin,
Thanks there, mate!
That BT52 is right up there, but I didn't like the Parmalat treatment.

The 1939 Mercedes M154 has appeared in other threads, and surely belongs in this one.

And the 1950/51 Alfa 158/9, and let's not forget the '57 Vanwall

i also have a place in my heart for the 87 Lotus. Don't know why.

fee-nes... I would imagine the rather unique shape of the Wolf attracted a lot of people.

But my vote, as it has been in former versions of this question, rests with the Eagle, with a second glance at the Brabham BT33.

Must be the Eagle that Dan Gurney raced, long sleek and fast. Pity that it was not reliable.

I've always liked cars with Frank Costin bodywork such as the later Vanwalls and the Lotus 16.

Funny how the Lotus 16 rarely gets a mention... and it should, even if only because it looked soooo much better than both its predecessor and its successor!

Though that wouldn't be the only reason...

It had a nasty habit of falling apart, especially in the gearbox and transmission department. Funnily enough, at the Revival Meeting last September, Dave Walker's 16 was spotted by me in the paddock on Saturday evening with the seat out and the rear end of it's drive shaft removed, and copious amounts of gearbox oil swilling around the cockpit floor. Nothing changes!

MattFoster: Man that Alfa was a real beauty. And the ´91 Jordan is a nice looking piece aswell. I tend to think there is something appealing about almost every racecar to be honest.

Personally, I'd go for the 1978 Lotus 79. It looks very sleek, especially in that glorious black and gold livery :)

borsari,
Only a chosen few have ever sat in a real Ferrar 156 aka "sharknose". Ferrari had them all sent to the crusher. Go figure!!!
They were beauties, none the less!!

All of Dan's cars had a special look about them, but the '67 version really looked the part.

Thank you, David. The next time I speak to my cousin Peter I will tell him that somebody rates the TS.7 among the best looking GP cars of all time. Although he was not solely responsible for the look of it, he had as much input as anyone else!

As a follow up to that last posting at 7.13 a.m. U.K. time, I have something for David to look at, at 7.30 p.m., same day. (How come no-one has been here in 12 hours!)

This was taken in the Brands pit lane on the car's first appearance - July 1970. For the record, the two junior designers are on the right - Shahab Ahmed in the white sweater and Peter Connew in the orange one.

Hands up all those who can remember when you could stroll down a Grand Prix pit lane, unhindered and it cost you - nothing?

The TS7 looked better to me in the 1971 livery, but then that's just my opinion, I could be wrong:cool:

The title of this thread is 'best looking' (hence no matter if successful or not) and 'of all times' (thus not only F1 cars).

So here's my best:

Alfa 12C37

IMHO, it's in the same league as a W154 Mercedes-Benz, another potential winner, but, of course, I prefer the Alfa. :)
Because it's red . :p

Being the young whippersnapper that i am i'd have to say the McLaren MP4/* from 93 (shame it was wasted on Michael Andretti), and for some reason the 97 Jordan. Don't ask me to explain why:up:

Patrick, that Alfa is indeed a looker. IMHO, the best we seen amongst the photos on this thread. Thanks.
