Luca di Montezemolo suggests cutting GP's into two smaller races

LDM suggesting GP's are too long currently and could be split into two races to try and find a younger audience. Also suggesting some summer races should be held in the early evening rather than just after lunch to find more viewers.
Good idea? I like the thought of two races but it's such a big change to the culture and how F1 operates.. i'm not sure how they'd do it really. Plus his three car teams idea never did seem to go anywhere.. so perhaps this is more of the same.

Like Ecclestone, it's time for the retirement home for him.

In the UK we have been told that number of viewers is unimportant, only that they are willing to pay.

Well F1 seems destined to cater to the lowest common denominator, and the current races are about 3x the attention span of those they are trying to attract with the current set of gimmicks.

Although on the point of having races in the evening, since we're already shifting the Asian races to suit the European audience, why not go the full stretch and hold them at three in the morning local time?

Apparently modern audiences aren't able to deal with anything that demands patience or concentration to extract enjoyment from, it all has to be wham bam action otherwise people will get bored.
I actually think this is nonsense and 'younger audiences' (what does this even mean? Didn't most of us get into F1 when we were younger?) are no cognitively different to audiences of the last 1/2 million years or so.
I want a 'sport', not a show, and F1 should be the most challenging of single seater racing series in every aspect. Sadly I think the idea of F1 as a sport died a long time ago in the hearts and minds of those that organise it.

It's called Grand Prix not Deux Petite Prix.
And no doubt Pirelli would introduce tyres that last for a single lap so the cars pit every lap? And what about brakes that melt above a certain temperature so they need changing regularly too? Why stop there. Make the drivers change-over every 5 laps so we can have some mid-race interviews too.

"We rather prefer to have even shorter races in which there is really competition between drivers, between technology, between teams, between cars, between technicians."

Endurance is part of what distinguishes F1 from other forms of motorsport.
Endurance in what respect? Having to drive slow enough to conserve their tyres?;) The cars are hardly pushed these days.. engine failures are rare. And the drivers get out of the cars looking fresh most of the time.. bar a few really hot races each year. But other than that the only endurance imho is the tv viewer resisting the temptation not to fall asleep.

Pirelli are perfectly capable of building a tyre that can be pushed hard and fast during a race - they've just been told not to. If the race is shorter the organisers would still try to find ways to 'spice up' the 'show'. Likewise I'm sure the teams could make cars that go faster for 90 minutes - they are just restricted, and I don't see how a shorter race format would lift that restriction.
By and large the races have been exciting this year, or at the very least interesting with plenty going on. If an hour and a half of that makes you fall asleep then maybe f1 isn't the sport for you? How do you cope with other sports that last 90 minutes, or films for that matter?

Dear oh dear.
He should stick to the strategy for their road car division, which is going very well.
Please stay away from making suggestions to FOM!
If anything the races could be longer, as the stars of the 1930s were required to slug it out in their 600 hp V16 supercharged beasts for around 600-800 km driving solo.

Please educate me on this guy, who is he and why do I need to see him in WRC? He usually looks out of his element and looks like he belongs in the high desert area of Southern California where the meth labs are.

Either he pays for his car, or there is one fewer car in the field. Pretty simple. Surely you cannot begrudge him that.
If would be nice if he would provide it for free for a youngster to drive a fully sponsored car , but he is hardly obliged to do that!!!!
