Alonso+Hamilton+Kimi=2007 with 7 races to go!

It's quite ironic that the 3 main protagonist of 2007 find themselves in the top 3 of the World Drivers Championship in 2012 again.

Major differences this time being all 3 of them are driving for different teams and Alonso & Hamilton are not team-mates anymore. Also, this time Alonso is leading the Championship instead of Hamilton with a very similar points difference of approx 15 Points (old system readjusted) with Kimi yet again being the furthest apart. Another major difference is that now the field is much much closer instead of just Ferrari & Mclaren making 90% of the podiums, with RedBull as defending Champions.... & Sauber, Lotus, Williams & Force India consistently taking points off the main Championship Challengers in 2012.

1- Fernando Alosno:-
Leading with a 37 points gap, is the favourite to take the Championship. Quick, Consistent & relentless in pursuit for his first championship with Ferrari. Crazy determination, and took a decent car to 2 wins. The problem now for others is that Ferrari is now joint quickest car along with Mclaren, so looks like it'll be a hard fight for him to lose now. Great reliability from Ferrari (Monza was a minor blip) makes it even harder for anyone to catch up with him. Just needs his consistency to continue to win the Championship.

2- Lewis Hamilton:-
His wayward 2011 is past, and he has been mega whenever possible. 3 Wins, multiple podiums and a very quick car going into the last 7 races. Lewis has the most realistic chance of catching or overhauling Alonso. Mclaren needs to sort out reliability issues, as well as focus on Hamilton a bit more than Button for him to stand a chance. Hit by major Mclaren errors in the beginning of the season, but Mclaren have transformed themselves from PitStop Cartoons to PitStop Kings, which is always a help when the field is so tight.

3- Kimi Raikkonen:-
After two years away, he has shown once again that he only needs a good/decent car to mount a Championship Challenge. 6 Podium finishes in 13 races, and scoring big points in the 6 other races has hauled him stealthy into 3rd in the Championship. Much like 2003, 2005, 2007 & 2009... Raikkonen has been one of the most devastating driver in the second half of most seasons. If he continues this trend of his, impossible can be achieved. But to overhaul Alonso or Hamilton, Kimi needs to win atleast 1/2 races, and get his qualifying correct if the car allows him to do so. Lotus has been a consistent car, & Kimi has been consistent in it. But to win a Championship, Lotus needs to improve in the last 7 races somehow to stand any chance, or he could end up behind Webber & Button in the final standing. Kimi is the Dark Horse, & extremely dangerous for sure.

4- Sebastian Vettel:-
Two reliability issue costing him possible 25+10=35 Points in Valencia & Monza respectively. But one just needs to relook at 2010 to realize Vettel/RBR is more of threat than what Kimi/Lotus is for Mclaren & Ferrari drivers.

I think Sebastian Vettel will win the Championship, and Kimi ending up scoring more points than Hamilton by season end. But it's Alonso's Championship, as obvious as it can get.

Far too close a call for predictions. Ferrari are right to be wary of Raikkonen though, using the stealth approach. I'm disappointed that Red Bull are losing some ground, but I'm sure that'll change come Singapore onwards...

I can only vote, as can anyone really, about who I want to see winning the championships, rather than who I think will actually do it.
I guess RB are a good bet for the constructors.

Ok back on topic, the advantage is with Alonso. I trust Ferrari more than any team, they look after their drivers and you have this sense that they would go any extra mile to help Alonso. I see also this in RB with regards to Vettel. McLaren are to PC and hopeless so Lewis is the least likely to win the WDC.

Kimi has to fight very hard to keep chasing the lead....and Lotus should fix their KERS issues that kept bugging kimi in race and prepare their DDRS for the remaining races!! Also the car need a massive upgrades, so far the team only bring bits by bits occasionally...and its clear that ferrari and mclaren or even redbull have improved a lot!!

Spa and Monza showed that the Lotus lack raw speed.....but the car 's gentleness on its tyre managed to bring them this far~~ Not enough to win a race though!!

Hamilton is favourite now, because with that car he can catch Alonso quite easily in 7 races especially with so many other cars capable of finishing between him and Alonso.

Kimi is not a factor, he will just plod along, and pick up points, but has not shown he is capable of taking a race by the scruff of its neck and winning. He will only win if the others throw it away badly and it drops into his lap, like 2007 but worse.

Vettel is an interesting one. I think the car is good enough to win it, but he has been inconsistent this year, and its unlikely he can beat Alonso and Hamilton without a clear car advantage.

Alonso, is bullying his way to the word championship and has defied the cars inherent lack of speed so far, but you can only do that for so long and I think in the end he will be caught because unlike 2005, he has many more rivals he needs to keep ahead of.

Hamilton will win if the mclaren is as good at the remaining tracks as it was in monza.

And he is pushing like crazy. Saw him at the track all wkend in monza and you could see how hard he was pushing from the get go. If he keeps this up and mclaren have a car this much better for the rest of the year I believe he can overtake alonso definately. Unfortunately think lotus will be/have been outdeveloped.

Will be great to see 2013 with 3 double champs aiming for the magical triple! And then see kimi get it to make 4 doubles in 2014 :lol:

I've given up on predictions, and as someone else pointed out I just went with the Macca/Lewis combo that I want to see winning. It's *probably* going to be Alonso but it could just as easily be Raikkonen. He won four from five in the run-in in 2007 (admittedly with a wee bit of help from Massa at one of them) and could do something similar this year in that Lotus if they get it right in qually.

Funny how those 2007 comparisons keep coming though. Tensions in the Macca garage, Kimi sneaking up on the leaders... any good spying scandals around at the moment?

I think Fernando will win this year. He doesn't make many (if any) mistakes and Ferrari is a bloody fast car now. With that in mind I don't see Lewis being able to catch up on points. Unless Ferrari has a string of reliability issues or Alonso starts crashing (or more crashing into him). Kimi has less chance of winning than Vettel IMO simply because Lotus isn't good enough both in race and qualifications.

Mclaren will get WCC

Uff, tough call. McLaren improved the car very much lately. Alonso has a bit more points than the other contenders.
I think that if McLaren is on the same level as last races suggest then Hamilton is very strong contender, so I voted for him. But I won't be surprised if it's Alonso.
Personally I would like to see Kimi winning the WDC.

WCC, I think McLaren.

Monza is a unique track. The Ferrari was also very fast in Canada. The real test will be Singapore where we will see the true order again. I suspect Ferrari will struggle for pace.

I think it will be very close in the end, and will be between Alonso, Kimi and Hamilton given the recent car performance... but both Red Bull drivers are still right there so if they have a better second half watch out.

I voted for my personal choice in the WDC (Alonso) and the most logical choice for the WCC (McLaren) but it's impossible to know or predict, maybe with 4 or 5 races to go it will be easy to predict but now it's impossible. The only thing I'm 100% sure it's that Lotus will not win the WCC.

Alonso and Ferrari.

Ferrari is getting right up there, so is Massa, while McLaren will continue throwing points away due to inconsistence/technical unreliability. Also Red Bull have started twindling, so the WCC will be very tight but with Ferrari winning it in the end.

3 races, 3 wins - McLaren will finally win the WCC they've wanted since 1998. Ferrari has the 'Massa tax' so only 1 driver is scoring points worth a damn, only RBR is a threat.

Alonso received a good gap after Monza, so Lewis will score more wins but fall short and Fernando will WDC. I mucked up my prediction of a Ferrari win at Monza at the start of the year, but I thought they would still be strong enough in the final 8 races for a few wins.

I had a dream last night about the final race in Brazil, it was down to Alonso, Hamilton, and Kimi. Lewis was leading the race and as result the WDC, then he was passing a back marker (Hulkenburg in this case) and got taken out and had to retire from the race. Kimi inherited the lead and took the WDC, but not before Lewis retaliated and took Nico off the track in his damaged car.

This is my belief too but if Renault's recent statements about the alternators suffering at low RPM are correct then a retirement in Singapore is not out of the question. Also, we are yet to see the implications of the ban on their mapping around a tight circuit again.

Deserved and most probably Alonso will be the WDC.
In any case they won't let Kimi become a WDC without a single victory. And I think Lotus will not be able to match the final spur of Ferrari and McLaren.
Especially if Mercedes succeed in returning near the front and fight with Lotus and RBR.

I don't know if this is a fit way to look at this, but Lewis, Kimi and Vettel are 5.5 points a race behind Alonso at the minute, and McLaren are 4.2 points per race behind Red Bull and the points at 25,18,15,12,10,8,6,4,2,1. Of course it's all complicated by people taking points away from each other, and the top three or four teams all having a chance to win, and Mercedes and Sauber easily able to score highly in some races. Alonso has scored an average of 13.8 points per race this year, which is between 3rd and 4th on average finish so far. If he keeps up that rate, then for somebody to beat him has to score an average of 2nd at every race which seems unlikely. It's probably going to come down to DNF's and chance in my opinion. Unless Ferrari slip behind in the technical race, Alonso would need a few DNF's or low finishes, or somebody needs to create a string of 1st's and 2nd's to have a chance of overhauling him.

Given current form, my money is on Lewis of Alonso to have a very close title battle and for Red Bull to nab the WCC, not comfortably, but not bum-clenchingly tight either.

But this Twittergate is may end up playing into the hands of Alonso big time, as well as Hamilton's possible move to Mercedes. It might be just Rumours, but it sure isn't good for Hamilton overall for 2012.

Hamilton's chances for the Championship heavily depends on his current relationship with the Mclaren team. If they are a bit strained like it was plain to see in Monza according to many reporters, then it's not going to be that great. A good team environment is key to any Championship hopes, which currently doesn't look to be the case.

Alonso is in the best position as far as Team Environment & Team-Mate usefulness as concerned. The same rosy stuff cannot be said about Hamilton+Mclaren currently. Here is a article which has me worried about Hamilton's title push... for better or for worse! Interesting, and it can have a big bearing on this years Championship.

Alonso must have the biggest grin of all reading this current article, as he knows more than anyone what cannot be achieved if the team-driver relationship gets strained a little bit!!

McLaren looks to be very dominant and they will continue to be. Don't know why people don't really see Hamilton as the favorite. Hes got the car now.

Alonso > Vettel > Raikkonen > Hamilton.

Methinks that all championship contenders are concentrating on Fernando way too much. They ought to concentrate on themselves first and then aim at Alonso.

Fernando's got it in cruise control now, and he knows that the closer we get to the end of the season the more desperate the others will get.

Mclaren are coming on strong but RB won't be as bad as they were in Monza, and they have the most consistant pairing on the grid, they'll just about do enought to win WCC.
And I would be wrong to back anyone other tha Vettel to win the title. Shades of 2010 again.

I think Hamilton has a point to prove before he departs (yes, I'm going with that prediction). I think it'll be close, but I think he'll win out at the end.

McLaren are looking good for the constructors.

The next races Red Bull will be strong. Vettel had an awesome race in Spa, coming from the back, last race he was charging before he suffered the car failure. I think he, Lewis and Alonso will be the main participants towards the end .
Kimi has been too conservative, collecting points not displaying the agressiveness needed on a consistent basis to become champion. This can all change of course if he pulls a 2007 like performance or does what Vettel did in 2010 towards the end but we also heard this before Spa.
At this point I think I see Sauber collecting a win before Lotus.

Not really, he couldn't keep pace with those in front and then got overtaken by Alonso. Red Bull was poor at Monza, though I'm sure it's a track problem for them.

Lotus seem good on hot tracks with high downforce, so should be good in the remainding races especially if they get the DDRS on the car.
I wouldnt write Kimi off.....
I think Alonso will hang to the lead and win it, with Lewis runner up and Kimi and Seb close behind.

Hm, a bit to close for cruise control, especially if McLaren remain as dominant as of late. What he needs is his car gaining a few tenths or option 2, Red Bull stealing points from McLaren (him too in that case but the 25 victory points is what hurts most, obviously.

During the break I said FA must make at least 25 points form Spa and Monza, the 15 he got don't make me feel that comfortable.

Alonso has one hand on it now but anything can change, with the McLaren looking likely to be good at all the remaining tracks Lewis will certainly close the lead down.

Alonso is good enough to pick up the points needed to win the title even if the car isn't winning every week and for that he would be a worthy 3xWDC.

I wouldn't call it a scandal, but it would surely spark lots of new ideas of how to improve the importance of wins. Also several huge threads about how those would or would not be stupid.

Sounds kinda interesting. But i doubt it'll happen anyway. Either Kimi wins a race or he's out of the competition.

I'd have to say Alonso. He has the stuff to make it happen, even though the Mclaren seems to be getting faster.

However, I'd absolutely love to see Kimi squeeze out a win this season, and if he were to win the championship I'd be over the moon.

I don't think the McLaren/Hamilton split will affect their championship charge. At the end of the day, this is their best chance since 2008 to win titles. It would be beyond silly if they waste it for a silly grudge because of the split.

It's not gonna possible to win this years WDC with no wins. Alonso hits the podium quite regularly and so do the two Mclaren drivers.

I really want Lewis to take it, but I am not sure about his ability to take back to back, to back, to back wins.

In fact he has only taken back to back wins three times in his career.
