Should Mclaren hire Perez for 2013, & will Ferrari allow it?

And why not Rosberg? He's beaten Schumi for 3 years.

NR has a contract, MSC does not. The later will be extremely motivated to leave with style and McLaren can provide such an opportunity. Even past his prime he's been improving and only blind can't see him doing a better job than NR this year.

No offence but Schumi is well past his prime.

Yes he is but it does not seem to prevent from being as competetive as many young hot shots.

Sauber has a nose for a talants. He can't sign bad driver by definition. Nobody knows the potential of Sauber's car. The only obvious advantage they have is tires managing. But because of bad qualification performance, they very seldom transform this advantage into really good result.

BTW, Kimi was less impressive during his first season, but he also had less experience in formulas.

Actually in his first f1 season Kimi was more impressive than Perez in his first season 2011.Sauber really has eye for talents and good group that produce good cars and this year they done amazing car that they have said to be their best car by far.

Sauber then was right behind Top3 and Kimi had far more testing prior to his first season so i also think that Perez's second season is more representative and he is already the most successful Sauber driver.

Kimi only done 3 test with sauber!! In his first test, he only done 5 laps and call it for a day because his neck cant stand it anymore!! Sauber said he didn;t even bother to look at telemetry and sign him up immediately !!

Couldn't argue much about the matter as didn't have tools to follow f1 close enough then but something tells that there were more tests back in the day not only prior to season but during the season as well hence abovementioned conclusions.

Kimi may have few more tests back then indeed but currently they have more friday practises and curret sauber car is also right behind top cars and even above many of them in race pace (lacks quali pace) also currently differenties are only few tenths between 10 teams while then only 1-3 teams were inside 1 second. Perez indeed doing very well no doubt...but much come from a great car and he still has too many bad days and is been beaten by Kobayashi quite often too.

McLaren brought Kovalainen on board after he accomplished far less after just one season in the sport, so I don't see why Perez should be out of contention.

Depends how you look at it, Kovalainen was in his first year and beated highly respected Fisischella, the car was slow so better result couldn't be better. Perez in his first season achieved less and was beaten by Kobayashi. This year Perez has showed he is good enough to have bigger team drive in the near future.

That didn't happen like days before the season started, though. He still would have gone through the schedule of preseason tests, which was much more full than what we have now. His race experience was low, but he would have had a decent amount of time in the car before the season started.

Anyways, Raikkonen's performances were more impressive at Sauber in my opinion, but F1 was different back then and its hard to compare. Perez will impress me more when he beats Kobayashi more consistently or can perform consistently well in normal races on a normal strategies. I've got nothing against him, truly. I want to see him do well, but he's not done enough for a top ride yet in my opinion. Front running teams wont be gambling on alternate strategies that often, so he'll have to do his work straight up and I dont think he's done that enough yet.

McLaren should take the best and the most promising available driver and Perez perfectly matches this criteria.

Perez said that his association with Ferrari would not be an obstacle to him joining McLaren if the opportunity arose:

Well Well Well... Looks like Ferrari are going to lose Perez to Mclaren. SO much for he's inexperienced, especially when Perez might actually have the opportunity to beat Fernando Alonso driving a Mclaren in 2013. Also, If Perez joins Mclaren.... I can put some money right now that he'd beat Button in the WDC ranking, as well as both Massa & Alonso if the Mclaren is equal car to Ferrari.
That would be awesome and at the same time quite an egg on Luca's face moment

I guess TelMex will be Perez's personal sponsor, while Vodafone will be the team's sponsor. Something like what Button has with one of Mclaren's conflicting partners. Overall, I don't see what the problem will be as long as Perez keeps beating Mclaren's competitors on track.

There is nothing wrong with McLaren trying a Berger (Button) / Alesi (Perez) style line-up instead of Ferrari this time.

Who knows, you do not need the "fastest" drivers x 2 to win WDC & WCC.. Barrichello and Button did the job nicely for Brawn.

It will be even more funny if Alonso fails to win the Championship this year & in future.... as Ferrari are looking to accommodate Alonso's preference (Massa no.2). So all this two-faced stuff will come to ZERO, and they'd have lost out on a future brilliant driver.

Nothing sounds sweeter than a Slap on Ferrari's face.
