I know there has been a topic about your oldest recording (which I can't find right now though) so if this is too similar feel free to merge the threads.

My favorite tape would be something my dad or uncle taped, an one-hour review of the 1993 London-Sydney marathon. Really well-made show from Dutch national TV. They used songs from the 50s and 60s which suited really well to the show. As a kid I've watched my uncles Group C recordings often, great memories and those tapes were my introduction to racing.

Never had many purchased tapes. Tapes from Duke were mostly unfindable and the odd-tape I did find was way too expensive. Did get the 1992 British rally championship video for Christmas, McRae in the Legacy was always a good watch.

Just wondering if more people have videotaped things off the telly? My parents would never let me use too many tapes as they were quite expensive so often recordings were overtaped  If only...

Whats your favorite tape? :)

I have never owned a VTR, but a friend taped my debut race driving a 2CV at Brands Hatch in 1990, I imagine the Truckfest was the reason the camera's were really there.

On the same tape I also have a recording of the Top Gear coverage of the 1990 Mondello Park 24 Hours which included some brief footage of my orange #18 2CV, my last race before retiring from active competition

I still have the tape somewhere, ought to get it digitalised, thanks for the reminder

I taped a lot of BBC RAC Rally coverage in the 1980s, also I've got a program about "Motor 100" at Silverstone which seems to be from 1985. I have a few "bought" videos, typically bought from bargain shelves rather than when at full price. Note though, after a few years you can find the tapes start to stick and won't play any more - I've got an in-car video from the Manx rally and it won't play.

Regarding tapes made from TV broadcasts, my two favorites are the 1989 Watkins Glen IMSA race and the 1993 Canadian Grand Prix. I watch both of these every 4 or 5 years.
I have several other tapes, some Indy, Le Mans, and Petit Le Mans, that I think will be especially interesting 15 or 20 years from now.
As far as commercial tapes, "The Speed Merchants", "Champions Forever" and "In Car 956" are three tapes I hope I never have to live without.

I used to tape all the BBC GP highlight programmes from about 1984 onwards, although most got taped over after about 15 years (usually with ski races).

My favourite commercial ones were the F1 season reviews that featured Clive James as narrator ("Piquet was on pole - unfortunately he was still on pole when everyone else went past him"), The Power and the Glory history of motorsport (my first glimpse of board track racing footage), and an Indy 500 history tape that covered 1911-1988 which featured some incredible material.
