Just a week ago a rather incredible gathering of some ten "Silver Arrows" occurred at the 2012 Goodwood Revival held at the Goodwood Motor Circuit
and to honor it we wanted to do something special. We have included many of Stefan Marjoram’s fine photographs of the cars along with three professionally
done videos, two by Mercedes-Benz and one of a supercharged Auto Union warm-up for you to enjoy. Stop by and see it at theoldmotor.com

Did you realise there was an eleventh "Silver Arrow" present?

No we did not, The figures we found must have been the number that actually made it out on the circuit. Thanks for posting the photo.

The truck was parked near the garage containing the ten participants in the 'high speed parade'.

Some where I have seen a b/w video of this truck in action, in period, taking the cars to a GP, I think in N. Africa. I have just Googled but failed to find it on You Tube. Is it on an MFQ DVD?

Lovely to see more of Stefan's fabulous photographs - always one of the high spots of the Goodwood Revival. Can't wait to see his drawings from the event. Thanks for posting the link.

The Old Motor article doesn't mention that there was an Auto Union P-Wagen (Typ A) replica there, as seen in some of Stefan's fine photos.

Not sure whether to post these here, on the main Revival thread or on the You Tube thread, but anyway...

Silver Arrows at 1938 Italian GP:

Silver Arrows in action: http://www.youtube.c...;feature=fvwrel

Silver Arrows clean up at Monacco 1937: http://www.youtube.c...feature=related

and the 1939 Belgian Grand Prix, marred as it was by the death of the newly-wed Dick Seaman: http://www.youtube.c...feature=related

Still cannot find the footage with the trucks, but there are plenty of other clips on You Tube.

Might I commend <motorfilms.com> to you all, where extensive top-quality original footage of the Silver Arrows is available in various volumes of Motorfilms Quarterly and other dedicated titles. Not all free, but all wonderful value...

By all means. As I said originally, I think I saw the footage with the canvas-sided trucks on an MFQ, but all my motor racing stuff is currently in store while Mrs M directs a refurb to our shared 'office'. Perhaps, Doug, you could confirm on which volume it is to be found. The 'film' begins with the cars starting their journey from Stuttgart (?) in the trucks - and IIRC the race is in N Africa. Morocco?

I thought the same, but I must have been thinking of this footage showing the Auto Union trucks off to the 1936 Monza race.

Malcolm, definitely North Africa.I think you will find that the cars were heading for Tripoli in 1938. If my memory is correct the film was shown on one of the all night Channel 4 shows prior to those season opening Australian GPs. I expect DCN will know as he took part in the programmes. I have them on tape somewhere but you know what my office is like!

Well, you could try Motorfilms Quarterly Volume 16, or for on onboard W125 lap of the Nurburgring Volume 7, I think it is, or several others. Just go onto motorfilms.com and all the 27 MFQs so far produced are there, still available and eager to show themselves off... Go on, make an ageing chap with a wonderful movie archive and a young family to support very happy.

I have this film on a tape somewhere. It was called something like 'Sieg-Rekord-Meisterschaft', a promotional film made by Mercedes about the 1938 season.

 Why do they look so much better in B&W?

These pictures justify the Goodwood dress code, as it was intended - ie Shinto priests, headmasters, P&O stewards etc excepted.

No chance! There's three steps up to my front door and everyone knows "Daleks can't climb stairs".

More to the point: it was the genuine enthusiasts who surrounded the Silver Arrows

I did look twice! The modern toolboxes and plastic crates gave it away for me initially. And then mostly 50s and 60s dress also. Nice efeect though,, now lets see those pics in color!

The wonderful b/w close up of the front of the W125 reminds me of Robert Fellowes' photos in Rodney Walkerley's Grands Prix 1934-39 book, lovely stuff Stefan.
