Dover--one of the best, well, at least most interesting, looking trophies in NASCAR.

We get to see more Darrell Wallace Jr vs. Ryan Blaney short-track slideways madness in the NNS series this weekend

Joey Legs is running double-duty to mix it up with the Nationwide front runners. Out of guilt for stealing Hoenashes 2013 ride, do you think he could make life difficult for the RCR boys? Please?

Danica is also running double-duty, and Eury Jr-less. This will be interesting. How will this affect her? How will this effect us!?

Don't forget Travis Pastrana makes his Xtreme NCWTS debut at Vegas this weekend. Sounds like he's putting the feelers out for some full-time running next year.

I don't think so, but that's just my gut feeling. Pastrana doesn't seem like the guy that would stick around for as long as NASCAR requires per year.

Yeah, judging by his documentary 199 lives, his whole life he's done whatever gives him the thrills he's looking for, rather than being particularly committed & dedicated to anything in particular and putting that ahead of having fun. He's done some pretty crazy stuff dead against what his sponsors say he can do, got injured, and its cost him. Just how much he's changed since then, i dunno, but it wouldnt surprise me if he found something new to entertain him, a new challenge to take on, and not see him in a stock car again.

Anyone know where i can view the test session results? without a Forix subscription :)
Wondering how Hamlin is getting on with the concrete, he needs a solid result here and that seems unlikely, just wondering if they've managed to find something.

Cheers for that, i had a look on that site earlier and it had nothing, but thats a more specific link i hadnt looked at.

The Autosport site said there was results for a session already (6hr ago), but i cant find it anywhere, and the last session at 3pm GMT i caught some of it on the 2nd monitor, but that was 4h after i'd posted, so not sure if that was the first session or if there was an earlier one.

Denny seemed on pace, which is good news given that he's struggled on concrete, but it could just be practice times and he's putting more aggressive effort in than the others are etc
more fingers crossed :D

Oh dear. How exactly do you run 32 laps yet still be 1.3 seconds and 9mph slower than the leader?
It's only a 23 sec lap FFS!

I don't think so. He's still with it mentally in the races. I think the team just sucks. Look at McMurray. They're running about the same.

Does the double-d in the thread title stand for Dover Downs, or does it stand for the plus-sized banking in the corners? :)

Gonna have to miss this one. I'm off to consume from a brand that probably 90% of the NASCAR demographic also use, but doesn't advertise. It would be allowed to advertise if they wanted to.

Cheers, gotta be honest, ive got the race on the other monitor but i havent paid that much attention to it all, in too much of a foul mood due to other sporting results and ranting in frustration elsewhere  :D

Weed isnt a brand, and i've no idea what NASCAR could advertise but doesnt, theres plenty of alcohol branding, dont think theres ciggy sponsorship, but then if you were to 'consume' them i dont see how that stops you watching the race.

Its all very cryptic :D

I have watched some Nascar races, but as a European I can't see any attractive about it. I follow about 20 car and motor series, I love racing, but that is the only series I can't fall in love with. Can someone disclose me what's the point in circling around an oval track for about two hours?

 two hours

It took a countryman of mine to get into it for me to start following, but after really watching you learn to appreciate oval racing in the slightest. Once I got my head around it a little I was amazed at the balls they had particularly open wheelers.

Aric making ambrose look like he's nothing special with the crew change. Quite dissapointing as an ambrose fan! But on the other hand good for aric if thats what he's been putting up with all year, that must have been frustrating.

Cracking response that GM :rotfl:

I dont mind admitting that about 18mo ago i'd have never given NASCAR a moments thought, and throw out the usual 'boring round & round inferior class racing' formed from a mixture of ignorance, snobbery perhaps, and maybe an element of being a sheep, accepting what others say about it and the fact that its just not considered racing by European standards, its a pointless redneck sport and our version is far superior because its a truer challenge.
If there was nothing on, and i happened to be channel surfing at the right time and catch highlights of the nascar race when they were on 'Five USA' then i might watch some of it and think it looked okay but i sure as hell wouldnt sit there and plan to watch it in full, i'd followed Mansell in his Indy days and the oval races were fairly boring, but you watched them because you were fans of the driver not the series.

3 things were a factor in me giving it a fair shot at watching it and seeing if i could see any appeal to it, a reason i might want to watch it.
1 - I randomly watched the race at Infineon (Sonoma) from iirc 2010 and enjoyed it, it was entertaining from start to finish, so i watched the watkins glen race, so then the following year i waited for it to return and it was a decent race too.
2 - GT5, for some reason i really enjoyed the nascar races, they might have been **** for accuracy but they were fun, unlike ALL other races you couldnt disappear into the distance for love nor money, they'd draft you back in, and ****ing up and losing the draft meant you were screwed, and i liked that. 3 - Top Gear doing a spot on it, it wasnt a significant deciding factor, but it made me think "im gonna give it a try next season, give it a fair shot".

Been enjoying it since the pre-season race, some races have been a little boring, but i think if you try and enjoy it, rather than being hostile to it and going in with a negative attitude it probably isnt going to win you over, you wont be wow'd by it like a very good road course race would, but then they're like rocking horse sh!* anyway. I still put more importance to road races, even if they've been boring lately, but i do really look forward to the next weekend knowing theres a race (or 3) almost every weekend during the season.
I can appreciate why people might not take to it, its an entirely different attitude & style of racing, and on face value might seem pointless and inferior, but theres more to it than turning left.

Thing is though, how do you 'watch' the races? I rarely pay attention. I have it on a TV within view/earshot, but I'm doing computer stuff at the time. Which is how you can all benefit from my expert opinions.

It's just too long otherwise.

Whereas I can't quite read a newspaper watching F1 or Indycar because you have to give it a bigger % of your focus.

The other thing is I don't always watch. If it's not a race I'm interested in (Michigan 2) I won't tune in, or Loudon I didn't watch the start. Or Richmond I didn't watch past the red flag. But you couldn't get me away from Fontana Indycar.

I'm very much take it or leave it about my NASCAR. It's there to fill time if there's nothing else going on. I'm not sure I could actually go to a race.

As most of you know, NCWTS is my jam. The race distance is perfect to sit and really focus on the race without feeling im shirking on other duties, and because the mileage is short, the drivers tend to get up and go from the very start.

These are young guys eager to impress, and that means showing everyone you can drive hard and clean.

I enjoy watching a driver- whether I support him or not- achieve his first career pole or win, and I like how the guys have their moms and brothers and sisters next to them pre-race, rather than the trophy blonde NASCAR wife who knows the camera is on her.
(Jordan Fish and Joonyahs squeeze are the exception here lads)

And when being interviewed you can tell they reeeally mean it when thanking team bosses and sponsors, cause a lot of the time they just simply would'nt be racing that weekend without them. You see real emotion when bad-luck nights can mean the next guy is going to be driving your ride, yet real elation when theyve taken the checker.

Lastly you can tell this is huge for them to be out there, and "earning respect from other drivers" is usually at the top of their priorities.

Its good stuff. It's why I like going to minor-league baseball games too.

Oh. Theres also the pure entertainment of watching John Wes Townley f'n **** up for those unlucky enough to be around him.

I need RaceView and to be listening to the radios and watching the timing for it to keep my attention, and even then, sometimes I take naps in the middle.

Reporting in for the Truck race BTW. Hoping there's racebuddy to go along with a stream that I can hopefully find.

Edit: I'm gonna need a stream, and looks like no racebuddy.

She s good man. She's getting a kick out of doing some pastel on board artwork tonight. No doubt she'll come in at some point and ask where "Jimmie Joawwnson" is, in her best South Park red-neck impersonation. Bless 'er.

Aaaand Bodine gets used to the side-window view early on. That skit with Hornaday probably not so funny now.

Been trying to find a video of it, but the skit was Hornaday and Bodine looking for some luck in Vegas. They found a horse and a pony in a stable and tried to take its shoes off, "Thats 4 shoes, 4 good lucks!. Get me a wrench", they were in a field picking through clovers looking for 4-leaves, and hesitant to break a chicken wishbone because it would be unlucky for one of them.
Good that they can show a sense of humor in what's been a tough season for both of them
