I think his comeback performance has been poor. Poor for a driver who is always on the "greatest of all time" top 3 or top 5. His comeback performance is totally OK for a normal solid driver, though.
And i think the reason for this is not age but simply... too many years out of the sport. I think that has hurt Michael a lot. Take for example Luca Badoer, the guy wasn't a bad driver at all, he was very good pre-F1 and a solid driver on F1. Yet he was embarrasing on that Ferrari.
This is a sport in which every year out of F1 will cause a lot of harm.
You might be right but IMHO his bike accident in early of 09 was also a main factor. But in 11 & 12 he was stronger in the races than rosberg.
+ imho he never gave a real support from the ex BAR Mercedes team. Ross and Norbert must be like him, but I think ha was not too popular in the crew.

I read this article. What a bitter pr!ck. On the eve of the guy's retirement he tries to diminish his accomplishments. Saying he drove a lot more races than X,y and himself. He is so self absorbed and envious of Michael. Saying these drivers mistakes would not have happened with other drivers. How the heck would he know? Did they drive at Michael's age in this era? What an idiot.
Nothing positive to say, then STFU, particularly on the eve Schumacher is retiring. He can criticise him all he wants at a later date. NO respect!

Is alive
Is German
Is still racing in F1

You mean the era of active suspension (1992, 1993) and automatic launch control (1994+)?
With different tire manufacturers making the field uneven (2005+) ?
What is so heroic, compared to now? This year we have no driver aids, a more closely matched performance in cars, and we have an almost record amount of WDC winners and race winners in the grid. In the previous years, it was often the case that one team had a crucial technical advantage over others (i.e. Turbo engines with special fuel composition 1983, Ground effects 1978, Renault Mass Damper, Active Suspension 1992, etc etc etc). This year the drivers are mattering more.
No sir, i like current F1 better. Except for DRS which is a joke.

Opportunity is the answer and is the key word in differencies between previous times and nowadays. It was yesterday, but it is so little left today, almost nothing. A room for creativity is one of the things that modern time really lacks.

He should never have retired in 2006 and I was over the moon when he came back.
To me he hasn't damaged his reputation at all, F1 is a different beast to what it was when he was owing the field.
Wish he had stayed on but only he knows what is right to do.

It was a pleasure to watch him race over the years and he brought many moments of strong emotions, whether you were his fan or not.
When I think of Schumacher I remember masterpieces like Barcelona 96, Hungary 98.

MS raced against AS, AP, NM and others that were hard racers.
But I have been feeling that MS and this modern F1 may not be 100% compatible.
Monza 2011 affirmed that for me, with LH needing the FIA to go past MS. (I don't blame LH, I blame the FIA rulebook)
MS could have soaked up the pressure all day under the old regs.
JB passing MS in Canada 2011 also underlines this new F1. DRS essentially giving JB the win....
Perhaps it is good that MS leaves now....

I have never been a MS fan, but when he announced his return I was happy about it and expected good things, unfortunately it didn't happen, and it's kind of sad that his pole in Monaco didn't count...
now I think retiring again is a natural step, he was left without any real options at the moment... let's hope he can make some nice clean races on the last part of this year.

Well, in his heroic era, from 1994 to 2004, he only had to fight against one or two Williams or McLaren cars. Nobody else was even close. 01, 02 and 04 he had no opposition at all.
Taking 7 WDCs in those circumstances is not necessarily quite as magnificent as it sounds...

personally, I believe the williams changed direction twice and this caught MS off guard, so I was against the penalty at Monaco...... oh well, thats the way it goes; 91 wins, 7 WDC's, and hundreds of millions of dollars, Michael will be 'ok'

He might not be as good as he use to be, but I just loved the fight in him. Even today, IMO his race craft is second to none. Monza 2011 was a huge entertainment to watch.

I was just pointing out that this is more a golden era of F1 than those Schumacher years when there were always just two teams competing.

This is definitely not the way it should have been.
If Michael was underperforming in relation to his team mate, as was the case in most of 2010 and part of 2011, then I would be satisfied with it.
But it is a travesty to see him without a seat when he showed more pace than Rosberg, this year, eventhough the inumerous Brackley's mistakes didn't allowed that to be shown in the points.
Brackely team is a bunch of ******* who can't built a fast car neither a reliable one.
Without Michael, part of my joy for F1 next year will be to laugh at Mercedes clumpsyness and stupidity.
PLEASE SCHUMACHER, JOIN WEC!!!! I DOESN'T MATTER IF AUDI, TOYOTA OR PORSCHE. PLEASE JOIN THE LMP1S CAUSE THEY ARE MUCH NICER THAN F1 CARS. THAT WOULD JOIN THE BEST DRIVER AND THE BEST CATEGORY/CARS IN A COMBO

I only started watching F1 after Michael retired. His prformance at Montreal last year in the wet made me realize why people loved him as a driver. Just praying there is a wet race during the rest of the season.....

You are so right on this one.
Sir Jackie Stewart's attitude is encapsulated in his leading comment on why Schumacher's retirement was overdue... "His reputation has already been affected by his unsuccessful return to the sport,". It's so much about reputation for Sir Stewart. For those who consider it an impact on his reputation, Michael already doesn't enjoy a good reputation, so I definitely agree with his just ignoring this and getting on with doing as he feels right and not worrying about the mental prison cell that concerns of reputation confer, with the antecedent restrictions on just going for it.... taking risks.
The timing of such a public comment by Sir Jackie is just testimony to the envy involved. A German stealing the glory??? No.... that remains on British soil!!!

Michael had many memorable wet races in his first career, and was noted for his ability to manage the car in tricky conditions. The current regulations really detracted from his ability to push the machinery to it's absolute limit. I believe he compared today's tires to driving on bubble gum.

Same but I'll do the same as I did in 07-09, just watch the race and not support anyone in particular.
No current driver gives me the thrill that Michael did in 91-92 that made me a lifelong fan.
