He was robbed of more than 1 podium during his comeback. It was only justice he took a podium finally.

Well said, only someone truly blinkered would not see that.

If anyone really thinks he still belongs to F1 as competitive as ever as his PR speak says I could just add farewell Dick Dastardly... The dirtiest driver in F1 will never be forgotten, will he?

No he will not. No week will pass without his name mentioned. With his stats of course.

In a race where 10 faster cars ahead of him did not finish due to crashes or mechanical failures, so nothing to be proud of.

Getting to the end of the race is kind of important in racing. Some might even suggest it is an essential part of it.

I used to hate Schumacher just because his domination made F1 really boring.

But this time, i want him to win one race! Because it would be nice to confirm he had still not lost it.

The dirtiest driver in F1 will never be forgotten, will he?

Indeed, we will never forget Ayrton Senna.

People are calling it "retirement" but in truth Mercedes dropped him.

The myths have started.

MS was offered a contract for 2013, he took too long to decide, so Mercedes moved on.

... after he refused to sign a contract with them earlier this season.

In truth Mercedes have squandered statistically the best F1 driver in history (as well as wasting the talents of their bought in tech team, and their other driver thus far) to the point of demotivating him into what I would call early retirement. Early because he *has* still got speed, but it has to be very difficult to find the will to go on fighting for mechanical DNFs and barely top ten finishes when one is twice the age of other drivers and has won more championships than most have races.

F1 has lost a lot of its sparkle for me with the news of Schumacher retiring, my enthusiasm for push to pass chewing gum tyre grid penalty lotteries isn't high. But I do see him as retiring before his ability has run out, even if he has lost a tenth or two from his later Ferrari days, and maybe a tenth or two more from his 90s peak.

The only bright side I can find in all of this is Hamilton moving to Mercedes. I can't help but hope they continue their trend of excellence with him, they deserve each other.

The music stopped and someone had no place to sit.

I was wondering if Schumacher's fans constantly slagging the car had something to do with Mercedes-Benz choosing Hamilton over Schumacher. Mercedes-Benz are in F1 for promotion and technical development, it follows that having the fans slagging the car all the time would not be all that good for promotion of the brand. Perhaps Schumacher's fans zeal actually harmed Schumacher's chance of getting a ride with Mercedes-Benz for 2013.

Maybe they should have technically developed their car then.

Much to Schumacher's credit I cannot recall one time where he tried to lay blame for performance problems at the feet of the people in the team. He was very classy that way. When asked, he would tend to focus on moving forward and improving and doing whatever it took to get the agenda moved in the correct direction as opposed to dwelling on problems in the past.
His fans should not give up hope of a Schumacher victory this year, Rosberg did it so there is no reason that Schumacher could not capitalize on favorable circumstances just as Rosberg did in China. I am 100% sure that Schumacher's last races will be some of his best.

Wauw, a sensible post from you

I found that one of his greatest strengths, don't mouth off your team en plein publique and get on with the damn job. I hope he can do that as he can race without pressure in the next six races, but to be honest: Merc fell off the cliff regarding car performance, compared to the other teams. Let's hope for the best, I'd hate it to see him say goodbye with wheels flying all over the place because a midfielder decides to t-bone the leaver (like Coulthard in 2008, he didn't deserve that either).

MSC claims his battery is in the red zone and to me that is pretty convincing reason to retire. It is also cruicial to retire whie you are on top of your game, not when you ran out of ability and reflexes. Sure more competetive machinery and better results could have helped to push himself for another year or so but we have what we have and I think it's for the best. He is a legend and always will be one, regardless of these 3 years or last 6 races for the matter.

I had a gut feeling this might happen. I looked at these last 3 years he has returned as a bonus. It's been good having someone with his massive amount of experience and success on the grid mixing it up with the current crop of younger standout talent we now have. The Hamiltons, the Vettels the Alonsos etc. I hope he enjoys his life and his retirement. It's a big ask but It'd be great if he could take one last win for Merc before the season is out.

I think Michael made a mistake by coming back since he couldn't motivate as he did before. It was clear early on. Rosberg has never been particularly fast IMO (we'll see if he bodes well against Hamilton next year) and still owned Schumacher easily most of the times. I guess Schumacher was bored in his retirement (/needed the money???) and thought going back to F1 would be revitalizing... just to find out his mind was not really that much into it any more, it was not what he expected and he didn't feel it like he used to, didn't have by light years the same driving tool. A mistake but not that serious.

Wow!

You just proved to the entire racing world (and beyond) that you know nothing about Michael Schumacher.

Exactly what I was gonna point out. The guy had enough money to buy a small country even BEFORE this 3-year comeback.

Nonsense. Yes 2010 NR had a clear upper hand but 2011 and 2012 there is no owning whatsoever. MSC stepped his game up a lot and anyone who watches racing without prejudice against 7xWDC would have not problems agreeing with it.

Schumacher still is the 2nd richest sportsman in the history of sports. He's being estimated around 800-900 million dollars. You made yourself look pretty stupid there.
