Kimi what happenned?

" I Spun"

It was like the most useless answer you can give to a question. Everybody knew he had spun so what was the point of giving a stupid answer?
I like Kimi, but he can be very cocky sometime.

So what? Like you said, everyone saw what happened, so why would you even ask it? Kimi was asked what happened and he answered. He doesn't have to think about: "Oh, this answer is useless for the media to play with.. I'm gonna say something where the entire F1 community will be happy about.." Can't believe there even is a thread about this..

Really? "Yes", "no", "I don t know", "I don t care"... Those are his most frequently used words or sentences to describe something... But does he in reality describe something? To me it looks like he has no opinion at all... Or even don t know what to say about some matters... What is so extraordinary about this, is probably beyond my understanding...

In today's corporate world, trying to say something politically correct is always the way to go but it doesn't mean that it is an easy thing to get right. For kimi, he doesn't like to get himself in any situation where he has to say something too positive or negative and I can understand this mentality and approach bcos one way or another, his words get turned into something altogether and we have seen how journos enjoy doing that with many drivers. Kimi has mentioned many times that one little word can cause massive misunderstandings or big hoohaas so he just prefer not to say anything if possible.

For me, his body language clearly showed he was pissed at his own mistake and it was an honest answer that he didn't care what other drivers had to deal with since it is a risk that they all decided to come out so late, just like it was a risk he came out so late and not have time to do 2-timed laps just in case the one lap is screwed. I do not think what he said made him cool or awesome, just honest... and demonstrated his frustration at himself, so nothing else mattered to him. It was from his POV that he made that statement, so I dun see how that is rude. He did not sound at all arrogant when he said it was not of his concern. Sometimes not describing something or anything also says a lot about a person - words do not really mean anything all of the time.

Also, given English is not his first language, we have to give leeway to such drivers when they speak in English. For example, I have read many comments from Fernando that appear to undermine his competition but I choose not to think too much of it bcos it could have been that his language barrier was misinterpreted within himself and then journos twist and turn his words even more...

I don't think you understand his mental state very well.

That doesn't mean he's being cocky. Just his way of dealing with his own frustrations.

He just spun, trying maybe too hard and too much for the car's limit. It's just his way of being angry at himself for making that mistake.
When he's frustrated in his own or the car's performance, he usually gives these kind of comments. That's just usual Kimi.

oh noes, he hurt other peoples feelings, better make a thread about it.

as if any other driver would think different... I bet that whenever someone spins and ruins his own lap the last thing they think about is "oh no, now I ruined some other drivers laps"

mistakes happen, it wasnt done on purpose and it will happen again.
we didnt have "apologies" for stuff like that in the past and we wont get it in the future.
at least it was a honest mistake and he told the truth, better than crashing into some that is waiting at the red light at the pit lane exit and then call it "race incident" when asked who's to blame...

Its not that he didnt apologise, its that he said he didnt care.

Funny that both this and Vettel blocking Alonso's post are full of "Alonso is a primadonna" comments, when he hasnt said anything against either driver.

The guy has always been a dick, sure he's being honest and not messing about. But he's still a ********. I'm not sure why people enjoy it so much that Raikkonen seems so open or careless, when that open character is nothing interesting at all anyway. I didn't realise all you had to do to be 'awesome' was to be honest. John Terry when he racially abused Ferdinand was merely being honest with his feelings, that doesn't make him a better person.

I'm not saying I would prefer he lies, just that this whole honest character isn't really impressive either.

It seems like some people yearn so badly for any form of openness that even the most boring, lifeless and rubbish characters get heaps of praise just for being so.

Each to his own. I'm not one to get excited just because someone swore on TV or something, that doesn't exactly rate highly for me on how I judge someone to be awesome. It's not exactly like he's solving world hunger just because someone bent a few inconsequential rules. Yeah, Kimi is a real anarchist.

He's so :smoking:

How about "I lost the rear end" or "I hit a wet patch and couldn't correct it in time" or something was wrong with the car, or the setup wasn't correct, or something with more detail like that, referencing to his driving. He doesn't need to treat everyone like idiots, maybe his fans are simpletons who get extremely excited that he uses the word "****" on television, but some of us enjoy listening to when drivers talk about their actual driving in somewhat technical and educated terms. Raikkonen offers nothing to Formula One fans in terms of giving an insight into the actual driving.

I don't know, but I've always enjoyed when drivers explain exactly what happened using driving and racing terms. Maybe I just need to dumb myself down and just get excited because he swore on TV once and eats ice cream.

But did Kimi really offend or attack anyone other than a few viewers on "autosport forums" who believe in a perfect world where everyone says sorry and everything is fine. Its touch luck, wasn't the first Q3 yellow and won't be the last.

You have to understand Kimi's personal moral code. Have you ever heard him complain much about misfortunes, sc, yellows etc? No. He deals with these as part of the game (and probably expects others to do so). He's probably caught hundreds of yellow flags over his career that other drivers caused with no complaints, so why would he "apologize" or care if he spins (and the yellow go out?) Its just the way it goes.

It depends on what you define as "complain much". Raikkonen has, like every other driver, stated that he has been unlucky at times, that he wished for a troble-free weekend, and so on. I haven't seen others go much further than that either, so I don't see why you point out at him being different.

In any case, I don't think anyone was expecting him to apologise for causing a yellow flag, it is just that his comment did come across as borderline rude/harsh. Which is fine, just not too fortunate but nothing to hold against him nor to cheer him for.

By the way, I don't understand Raikkonen's moral code because I don't know him personally and hence he never explained it to me, but with all due respect I doubt that you can understand it either unless you have indeed had that discussion with him ;)

He said "I tried to push and have a good lap, but I pushed a bit too hard and lost the rears" in that same interview. I don't know why you are complaining when he did give all that information in the interview in question, which you obviously didn't even see.

It's not about offending, it's about how you guys get so excited by his bullshit that irritates people. Like it's a ****ing redeeming quality about him and how that somehow makes him better than everyone else.

When Di Resta, asked about his crash, says he crashed because he was getting angry and frustrated in the cockpit because someone held him up or something like that, you see how he gives a proper answer and such. Everyone goes "HE'S SO BORING OMG **** DI RESTA"

When Raikkonen when asked about his spin just says "i spun" everyone says "HE IS THE BEST EVER LOL HOW HI-LARIOUS"

He doesn't offer anything, zero insight, zero information, zero anything. Why as a fan should I give a **** about him.

I told you. He said he pushed too hard and lost the rears. Also, he said that the car actually felt pretty good now in qualifying after too many problems during the weekend. Plenty of insight in a 30 second interview.

I don't think everyone likes the usual corporate poster boys that tell boring details that in the end
don't even bring anything worth knowing on the subject.

What can be more simple: he spun, end of story.
Racing is also about getting the frustration out of your mind as soon as possible and get focused on the next event.

What a load of sh*t this thread is

Ok. What about acting like a grown up and respectful adult and say...

Q. Kimi what happened

A. "I tried to push and have a good lap, but I pushed a bit too hard and lost the rears"

He doesn't have to act like a jerk and say "i spun" and then " i don't care about the others"

If that was Lewis or Alonso, everybody will be calling them arrogant. That is not cool. It is acting like a total looser.

What a thread! I m not a fan of Kimi or the Kimi hype but how PC hypocritical the world has become if you have to feel bad for the others because your crash ruined the other competitors qualifying laps. He is just a bit pissed, he maybe lost the chance in the WDC, so wtfuss.

Not sure what the fuss is about it's a standard interview. He was asked a question and he gave an answer. Did anyone expect him to lie and say "yeah I'm really sorry about what happened to the other drivers I wish Alonso was 4th which is what he had the pace for"?

i guess the reason for this would be because lewis and alonso don't act like that normally but kimi does so....

btw, it seemed he was really pissed with somebody(maybe himself, maybe at the reporter for stating the obvious, maybe at a spectator on the track who had a funny hat on i don't know)

I think the drivers with the most fans are Schumacher, Alonso, and Hamilton , and Kimi doesn't really make the list of popular drivers .
It's just that Kimi fans are a noisy bunch, assumably making up for their hero's lack of communication .;)

I like Kimi's demeanor though, it's funny to a degree, not as streamlined as everyone else's .

He's a whiner without temper, much like a Barrichello who overdosed on Valium, and F1 needs at least one guy who always complains and never feels responsible.

Good driver, too .

Most useless questions result in most useless answers. What happened there? The whole world could see what happened there. One simple replay does it. Questions like "What are your thoughts?". "How are you feeling?", "How did you play so well today?" are the dullest.

Too bad you spoiled it for others? Really? May be we are sitting in our cozy seats waiting for a grand finale of a Q3. Is that what he is looking forward to? Most times competitors are not as keen on a close competition as us. They just want to win easily. Why would he be worried that a proper Q3 result was not handed out? As someone mentioned, would you ask the same to a driver who caused a SC period?

I beg to disagree. Felipe is a whiner who never ever takes any responsibility - Kimi otoh never blames anyone or anything else if he has made a mistake. What happened today - he said that he pushed a bit too hard and the end result was for the world to see. Why does he need to apologize - if he had taken FA with him then I´m sure he´d told him that he was sorry.

An excellent reply to a really stupid question is what it was....he is one of the fairest drivers on the grid and you now have people complaining he didnt say sorry.

Kinda reminds me of those F.Massa comments after his injury in 09..''Kimi didnt even send me a card'' :rotfl:

seems to me that only 1 or 2 posts actually said Kimi is cool or awesome for sticking it to the interviewer with his reply. But since then, many people start saying that those who didn't see a problem with his reply are also being cast into the "Kimi is cool or awesome" category and start telling us that it's NOT OK to feel what we wanna feel. If he is your least liked driver, why do you guys even bother to make comments when it comes to Kimi? I dun see the amount of attention other drivers (like Kartikeyen or PDR or whoever at the tail end of the grid) getting these kinds of stick for sucking at driving for example.

I think it's OK to have any opinions but it's not OK to tell everyone else their opinions suck just becos their opinions differ from yours - and then they are labeled fanboys with tinted shades on, etc. And I think in this case, it's just RUDE and UNCOOL, which is what some of you are accusing Kimi of.

Ok. What about acting like a grown up and respectful adult and say...

Q. Kimi what happened

A. "I tried to push and have a good lap, but I pushed a bit too hard and lost the rears"

...

How boring!

Felipe is a whiner who never ever takes any responsibility

Don't think so. I find Massa a very sportive driver. After he lost the title in Brazil in the final lap with a single point, he was the first to congratulate Hamilton even though he must have felt devestated inside.

The ultimate whiners are Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost and Thierry Boutsen in the final years of his carreer (especially at Ligier).

If that was Lewis or Alonso, everybody will be calling them arrogant.

Everybody would call them arrogant?
I am pretty sure that You and some other posters here would not! :smoking:

He is just really pissed off.

But could you imagine the rage from people on this board if it had been Alonso instead.

Difference being people like Kimi much more than Alonso.

All this whining because of THIS!?!?

I guess you have to dig deep nowadays to be a successful Kimi hater.

I repeat, he doesn't have to apologize for anything, just act like a grown up. He was asked a standard question which did not need to be a complicated in answer. No need to be rude to the journalist or treat viewers like idiots.

if it's really because of that then why the outrage NOW?

we had so many "interviews" with Kimi where he pulled off those one-liners that dont tell you much.
no one cared, and no one still cares.
it's not about his "I spun" one-liner, it's about the comment after that, that comment started the whole mess that we're in right now...

and that's why the picture is accurate, he said he doesnt care, and people go nuts over it, calling him rude, which implies they think he SHOULD care, which then implies he SHOULD apologize.

there even was a list of one-liners and "stupid" interview answers he ever gave, people found it funny and Jeremy clarkson even quoted one of this answers when Kimi was on top gear.
no one gave a sh**t back then and no one does now, only the fact that he coupled it with "I dont care about other drivers" made it possible to even discuss this in a dedicated thread...

edit:
I also find it hilarious that all the people that generally speak negative about Kimis career/speed/qualifying/whatever also somehow manage to sync up and think the same way on this issue, as if his attitude with the press/other drivers has any relation to his performance(or non-performance in their eyes) on the track.
truly shows that none of them are able to judge him objectively, they let their feelings for the particular person win over rational thought.

He was asked a standard question and gave a pretty standard answer though.

To me the "I dont care part" wasnt good from him. Chose wrong words probably. Sounded a bit as if he was happy spoiling others and thats not the case.

The "I spun" part is just what the stupid question called for. For Gods sake youre being paid, make a specific question, like "where you think you could have started?" or "you are going to start on pretty used rubber, will that hurt your first stint?".

Yeah, I agree. Just not the best way to phrase an answer from him. But IMO nothing much to read into it, as it is apparently a pretty ordinary, usual interview.

Kimi is upset with himself for spinning and qualifying behind Alonso I would say. Being ahead of Alonso is all he cares about right now.
