Was waiting for this, lets talk about Korea, you think Lewis can get pole and a win this weekend.

finally back to racing. to answer your Question, i don't think so. the Force is strong with RBR. they had trouble with Quali pace earlier this year, but since introducing DDRS, they're flying. and korea should suit red bulls, not to forget they're bringing some updates in korea, so too lotus.

For the Championship I'm hoping for a Lewis, Kimi 1-2 with Nando and Seb dnf-ing.

It's easier to say that when you're man is the favourite and in the fastest car. Unfortunately I'm in the position whereby the driver I support (Alonso) can only really win if misfortune hits Vettel. I don't want him to crash but at the same time I can't deny I'll smile if the alternator goes. If he has no problems the I'll applaud Vettel and Red Bull for doing a better job. Essentially I'd rather Ferrari was faster than Red Bull but if we can't have a pace advantage the I hope for an advantage somewhere else, and if that's reliability or trackside operations then so be it.

i try to make a conscious effort not to wish bad luck on other drivers but i have to admit that when the pressure is on and someone is walking away with it i cant help it. (though i always hope they come out safe of course)

How many of Alonso's victories have been inherited after his main rival suffers some problem of reliability issues?
I would like my driver to win because he proved he was best, not because the other guy had to step aside for reasons outside of his control.

This is an attitude that really annoys me, a great F1 car must be both fast and reliable. If the guy winning the race breaks down he is no more unlucky than the guy sitting in P11 who doesn't have a car quick enough to score points. One of them has a car that isn't reliable enough and one of them has a car that isn't quick enough. It seems reliability is seen as luck yet the team is help responsible for the pace of the car. If Alonso's rivals have been unlucky to break down from a few races then I put it to you that he has been even unluckier to have been given cars that are no match for his rivals on pace since 2008. At the end of the day the constructor/driver combination that can complete the race distance in the quickest time deserves to win.

this track is perhaps the last one in the season that other teams will have sort of equal footing along with RBR,it's more like Hockenheim ring. ferrari may be good. but after this race, i see all the other tracks playing right in REd Bulls hand. take india/COTA/interlagos layout, all are High DF circuit, plays right in the hand of RB8. but if RB8 dominates this race by the same margin as Suzuka, (vettels fastest lap was nearly a second up on the rest of the field) then LDM and the whole Ferrari team should do the RAIN DANCE, cause realistically, i feel Macca boys will ruin each others race or team will **** things up, kimi is really not a contender, he's more of a contender for the runners-up position (i want to be proven wrong on this ... :p ). and at this point of the season, it's highly unlikely that outside of top 5, anyone else will visit the podium that much.

Where did I say "luck" in the post you quoted?
And you certainly didn't answer my question...

And now that you mention it, that is part of what goes into having a good car. Speed+reliability. Having a car that puts you p1 but breaks down is NOT a good car; the car who puts you in P2 and then inherits P1 is the BEST car. Judging just part of the picture when labelling a "good" car and a "snail" is just not correct. The best car is the car that is fast and can make it to the end. This year, McLaren and RedBull have proven they are fragile, and Ferrari's race pace is equal, or better, to them...

"Luck: fortune (whether bad or good) which occurs beyond one's control"

You pretty much defined luck there, all I am saying is that he is no more unlucky to break down than he was to find himself in a car capable of being in P1. If he was in P11 and broke down then nobody would care even though he has been even more unlucky - to have a slow and unreliable car.

I'm not going to discuss Ferrari's pace this season because clearly we aren't going to agree on that.

Funny, in that case, it is luck that Alonso has inherited so many victories because the failure on the car at front has nothing to do with his actions, and similarly, Vettel has been very unlucky because the failure on what should be standardised components that have to last for the GP is certainly outside of his responsibility. Although I wasn't thinking along those lines (Which I thought it was clear: What I meant is that I want my driver to WIN, not to inherit victories due to what happen to others.), I understand how "luck" comes into my post even though, once again, it wasn't my intention.
And yeah, probably we are not going to agree on that. My view in that point is that that a great package is fast and reliable on race day. Of the top 3 teams, only one has those characteristics.
I am of the impression that most people think that the best car is the one that won the last race if it is not from the team you support; or the one who qualified/had fastest lap/had great race pace in that strange event where the team you support didn't do very well (even though your team won the last one).

he did show desperation in 2007 mclaren year, he misjudged both canada and catalunya first corners trying to overtake, also he made mistakes trying to push in Fuji. (i'm not trying to be sarcastic, just stating the facts, so don't get worked up  )

Welcome. Yes I do hope it'll be a good race. I don't actually remember much of last year's race at all and most of what I remember of 2010 is just rain and what happened to the Red Bulls.

That is probably the *only* positive thing about Canada'07... I think that has to be the worst race by a top driver in recent years: to have what was the best car on the grid overtaken by the worst car (by far) in F1 just shows how much Alonso was affected by having his teammate being really fast there.

You are such a blind hater. Worst car on the grid by far? SA was faster than Honda, Toro Roso and Spyker in the first part of 2007. Of course he did a very bad race, but even if you hate him so much, you sholudn't say something that is far from true.

Good point... Spa 2010 or Canada 2007... which one was worst?

Spa 2010 was one bad move from Vettel that ended his (and Button's) race, and gave him the hype of "can't overtake" (together with the not-so-gentle squeeze by Webber and his early chop in Turkey).

Canada 2007 was a sequence of mistakes, from lap 1 to the very end of the race...

China 2005 was a very painful show by Schumacher (crashing on his way to the grid...) but at least, the F2005 was a really bad car! (probably, the last truly bad car built by Maranello).

Hamilton has had quite a few poor showings, but I cannot recall a single one that stands out.

So anyway, I cannot decide which one was worst: the single, very costly move by Vettel at Spa'10, or the sequence of mistakes and erratic driving by Alonso at Canada'07. Probably still Alonso's. Unlike Seb, he was a 2xWDC by that time, and was a fixture of F1 by then. But it is a close call indeed.

2011 should be a good friendly reminder. Monaco? Canada 2011 was worst than Canada 2007. To take yourself completely out and almost taking your teammate with you in the wet. To only then see your teammate win the race. Ouch...

His car was damaged when Sato passed him. Mistakes did cost him that weekend, though. He was set for pole before messing up the hairpin on his final qualifying lap and then he was quick in the race(set fastest lap, pretty sure) before going off-track a couple times and damaging the underbody.

No one is saying Alonso is immune to mistakes, but some people like to exaggerate the whole 'Alonso cracks under pressure' bit.

Fun fact: for 51 races now (i.e. since Australia 2010), at least one of the trio Alonso/Hamilton/Vettel has always been on the podium - crazy!
