A few picturs from Patrick Peter's stunning historic meeting at Paul Ricard at the weekend. He even included an event for "modern" historics and got no fewer than six Ferrari 333SPs and six F40s watch this become a serious class next year particularly with some of the early 355 Challenge cars added in.

It was good to see Ferrari 333 SPs out. Sanislas de Sadeleer, the Swiss driver pulled out of practice with a gearbox problem.

Looks just like the Torino raced by Richard Brooks, Dick Hutcherson and Marcel Mignot at Le Mans in 1976, 104 laps completed retired with gearbox failure, which is 102 more than the McGriff Dodge managed before the pistons melted.

That was apparently due to a misunderstanding over fuel octane ratings, and the supply thereof. Yet the Torino lasted that much longer.

Racing Sports Cars .com also mentions the McCriff car suffered from oil loss, but does not say if that happened before or after the pistons melted.
