sad news just annouced

http://www.bbc.co.uk...eshire-19895918

I can't ( ofhand) think of one UK racing car company that didn't either go under or get bought up - except the ones like Cooper, Lotus and Brabham which saw it was a no win business and got out first.

So its only UK racing manufacturers? Who are the long surviving non-UK companies (and lets not talk about road car manufacturers like Ferrari or Porsche which aren't the same thing)?

That's one, helped by being a monopoly in a number of formulae. What happened to Tecno, De Sanctis, Stanguellini, Giaur and so on?

Dallara.

Yes, but Dallara is 14 years younger than Lola, so the jury is still out.

I've got news for you. It is how more than 99% of production car manufacturers end up as well.

Talk about loaded question!

The answer will depend on whether you like it or not. :)

I did a big chunk of work roughing out the suspension models leading up to the first build of protos, but from then on the analytical work was mostly split between my Finnish colleague and Mazda. I haven't driven a production one, but the last proto I drove was quite civilised (I like driving trucks anyway). I'm a bit sad we need a truck to do a ute's job, but that's the way the market has gone.

I reckon the lad did pretty good given its a TRUCK.

http://www.autocar.c...ord/ranger/ride

The ride comments sort of ignore the huge empty/laden variations on a pick up truck versus an SUV!

These things should sell very well in the UK due to the crazy income tax laws on company "cars" - 50% of alll UK car sales are to companies.

There is a pub near where I live which has a horde of these and vans outside every friday night as its very popular with builders etc!
