I need to find a copy of the entry for the 1964 running of this most clubby of club events. These races were enormous fun for drivers and teams but unless you were a dedicated follower of club racing (mea culpa) perhaps not so much so for spectators. It would have been wonderful to have had a computer in the old days instead of clip boards and biros that ran out at crucial moments and note books that became soggy and illegible, I'd do it all again though.

Thank you for the heads up on the programme Luca, i am not a collector of such things, all I need to know is the composition of the JDC Team at the event. I'm sure I can rely on Roger for that.

John, apologies for the delay. I have been through the various files etc, race entries/results/programmes etc and cannot find it. I thought that I had because I have John Bromilow's race/team no. on my entries spreadsheets, but I now recall that another team member sent me a raft of docs relative to the team and its performance, so that is where the race no. came from. Again apologies.

My Autosport sheet mentions John B, but nothing specific about the JDC team, and there was obviously nothing in the MN report about the DRW so I did not copy it. Perhaps someone with Autocar/Motor/Motoring News might chack to see if there is any mention.
I have an old 750MC contact who might be able to help.

The Motoring News report doesn't have a full entry list but a Jaguar 'A' and 'B' team are mentioned. The drivers in the 'A' team referred to are:

Richard Wrottersley (Lister-Jaguar)
Jack Lambert (E-Type)
Eric Falce (E-Type)
Cunningham (E-Type)

The 'B' team consisted of 3.8s and XK120s

Autosport says that the "B" team consisted of: Don Smith, Peter Dodd and George Ward (all 3.8s) and Eric Brown (XK120)

Just shows how fallible memory can be as I only remembered the Hon Richard Wrottesley in a D type - memorably unofficial end-to-end record holder for the newish M1 in 1961 - but having looked it up he drove a Lister, said to be BHL5, in the '64 Autosport 3 hours.

Ted
According to JDC Year Book 1980/81 their team (2) ran a "D" and an "E" plus I don't know what else. The E type was E141, as you are aware, I am trying to trace the full history for its present owner. I don't know who was driving it in that race if, indeed, the book got the right year. However from the foregoing info from Roger (Clark) there was no D, but Allan recalls the Hon in a D as I do but unlike Allan i mainly associate him with a Lister (didn't he have a Corvette engined car?)

Confused...you will be!! I am.

I have just taken a magnifying glass to the photo I mentioned earlier, the D is 502, Reg MWS 302 ex Ecosse of course. Who had it in the 60s?

Was it David Wansborough?. ISTR he moved from a Falcon Climax spl to a D type in his early days. Perhaps Ted can clarify. ISTR that there was a very useful group of those chaps with a selection of cars from '62 onwards.
My mistake was looking for notes on a JDC team.........

If it's any help, Motoring News and Autosport both said that Richard Wrottesley drove the first stint in a Lister. The author of the Autosport report was Patrick McNally; the MN report was signed AMN. I don't know who that was. Hopefully he could tell a Lister from a D-Type.

I believe Wansborough may have driven it, but I think it after Ecosse ownership passed to Maurice Charles and then on to Jack Alderslade.

Unfortunately I am away from my copy of Andrew Whyte's book at the moment which would provide the full, conclusive story.

Confirmed
Not sure about any Wansborough connection though

...and Mr Skilleter may have given the wrong year in the JDC Year Book, I have asked for clarification.

Without a race team entry list it was very much a long shot, throwing a name for whom the 750 relay might have been a suitable event, into the equation .

With discussion about "Wrotters", although I have aired it previously and it is a little OT, I attach below a link to the glorious obit to Richard Wrottesley's step-mother.

 It's not very often you can say an obituary is an enjoyable read. She sounds quite a character
