Curious to see who people are pulling for, personally I think Alonso deserves it at this point.

Which is interesting for me because I can't stand Ferrari but Nando has done such an amazing job in what has never been the best car all year.

If not, I hope it at least goes down to the wire.

Both deserve it. At this point I'd like to see Alonso win it, mainly as he is long overdue a third championship.

But I think there is already a thread really similar to this. If not exact since it gave the option of "who do you want / who do you think" if I remember correctly.

Vettel, if I had to choose. I don't otherwise root for Vettel. This pick is based on personality and so far I have liked Vettel more.
Edit: And I also understand that WDC isn't about personality, but this poll was about wanting. Both have driven very well.

Alonso, out driven his car most of the season, had to really prove his worth at times too, fully deserves it.

^^ This is what it comes down to me.

He hasn't won for 6 years now which is way too long. As great as Vettel has been, you can't say he deserves 3 to Alonso's 0 from the last 3 years.

Both Vettel and Alonso have had outstanding seasons. However after seeing Vettel's excellent run from 24th to 3rd in Abu Dhabi vs Alonso being unable to cope with Raikkonen in a Lotus when it really mattered I would say that Vettel is showing that he is the more deserving driver this season. Alonso needed to win that race to swing things back his way.

I voted for Vettel.

Alonso's been too busy saying how slow his car is, even though he had a car equal to the Red Bull mid season.

Alonso = solid (his true form is hidden behind a solid number 1 position inside a team, a team not giving a crap about their number 2, a hypothesis that he drives a worse car than Vettel all the time)

Vettel = good (took 4 wins when he could. I truly believe that he has alot to do with the success of Red Bull and I believe he could form a good team around him wherever he drives)

Canada - equal
Valencia - won the race
Silverstone - equal
Germany - best car/won the race

And before that, in Spain he had a better car, in Monaco he had an equal car. So yes, yes he did.

I may have read your post too quickly, I apologize. But still I think you are being unfair.

It's true he may have had a fast car or equal to the RBR "in mid season". However, by that time Alonso never complained about the lack of speed, because indeed the car looked fast. So I really see a bit unfair to put down Alonso with the remark you wrote, since he's only really done that when the car indeed was in lack of speed. And even so AFAIK he's been more like "we need to improve" rather than "my car is slow".

Well I don't know what coverage you watch, but almost every interview where he's been beaten he comes out with "we don't have the best car", the "fighting Newey" quote was the same thing. Either way, this is about who we want to win it, I say Vettel and I have my reasons, you say Alonso. I just don't subscribe to the fact that Alonso's been dragging a dog round all season, because he simply hasn't.

You add up all the negatives of Alonso ... personal behaviour, attitude to other drivers/teams, blackmail history, lack of competitive teammates, team orders when they were illegal, huge team budget compared to others (and funnelled into 1 driver/car), illegal tobacco sponsorship, etc etc...

He even invented the finger waving in the 2005/6 seasons that people give Vettel so much **** about.

It's a real enigma to me how fans and especially Brits will gloss over all those negatives yet lay it thick on SV. This season Alonso has been fantastic, but Vettel has had less crashes, more mechanical issues and time after time pulled off clinical overtaking moves when he really had to get ahead of someone, when we have seen Alonso, Webber, etc. repeatedly getting stuck behind someone for a whole stint.

I have no problem with the fact that you want Vettel to win.

My problem is with your false statements about what Alonso has said.

The Newey thing was said quite recently when RBR became the best car (or better than Ferrari), so indeed Alonso had a reason to say that Ferrari is in need of speed. When Alonso was winning or during those other races you quoted, he wasn't complaining about the car. I don't know why people want to believe things that aren't true about certain drivers.

It is as when people say Alonso never admits his mistakes when he actually did that in Italy this very year (he said he had the fastest car but didn't take full advantage of it).

Also, nobody said that Ferrari was a dog of a car, at least not Alonso (which is what's relevant here). Why the need to exaggerate?

Even so, saying "we are fighting Newey" is just plain disrespectful, not once this season have I seen him congratulate Sebastian, Mark, Lewis or Jenson, it's always turned in to how bad his car is and how good theirs was (you can find plenty of interviews on youtube I'm sure).

Obviously nobody said the Ferrari was a dog, I was generalising, but people, including him have made out he's been driving a painfully slow car, not the case.

No, it's not disrispectful, it's the truth: Red Bull have built a dominant car for the last 4 races as they did in a number of races this season (Bahrain, Valencia, Monaco, etc. etc.etc.) so yes they are fighting Newey's genious and it's only disrispectful in your mind. If you didn't see him congratulate it's because you are not watching or you are looking elsewhere cos there's been plenty of praise especilly towards Hamilton. It's ok if you think Vettel's finger is respectful and humble and you want him to win but trying to twist facts to your personal likes won't change reality.

So giving praise and admiting other team's strengths is arrogant. Amazing.

Don't forget Alonso said we are NOT ONLY FIGHTING VETTEL, we are also fighting Newey. That's not taking anything away from Vettel but admitting Newey's designs are being extremely competititve and hard to race against.

not once this season have I seen him congratulate Sebastian, Mark, Lewis or Jenson,[...]

Well, I do have seen Alonso on TV congratulating the winners every time he finished in the podium while others ahead. I don't know what else he needs to do for a rival's win of a GP.

You can have your opinion of who you want to win but the rest of your post is absolute nonsense.

I hope it's his English (a lot of us don't have English as mother tongue) but I fail to understand why he believes our problem is with him wanting Vettel to win instead of Alonso when we clearly pointed out what our problem was.

I really think this issue is slightly off-topic but since it was used "as an argument" to support either driver I felt the need to debate it...

If anything else, saying "we are racing Newey" is very arrogant. FA makes himself disliked whenever he is under pressure and starts making these statements.

Not sure if sarcasm, but in case it isn't, I don't understand why throwing such praise to a car designer is so disrespectful.

I think it's way more disrespectful this:
http://www.autosport...t.php/id/104175

He knows his car is better than the Ferrari, he's leading the championship... He has the WDC in his bag. So really, I don't understand why he needed to point out this when the WDC still has not finished. Perhaps the second paragraph of the article is the problem so he needs to announce that him winning would be as worthy as if Alonso won it? I mean, he may be right but that he needs to announce it like that is really arrogant.

I'm far from a Vettel fan, I'd just rather see him win. You're obviously an Alonso fan judging by your avatar and it sounds like you're upset because someone's criticising your driver.
Praise towards Hamilton doesn't matter, we're talking about the title fight. Pretty sure before he's said Vettel is only good in a dominant car, and I can't remember him congratulating Seb once this year, he just continues to say stuff like the Newey thing, and like said above, that's plain arrogant. Pretty much saying Vettel's only winning because he's in a good car.

Maybe he should criticise his own team rather than making excuses. It's not 2011, Vettel's had races where his car's been bad too. Like I said before, I just don't see what Alonso's done that makes him deserve it any more, some say he's out performed the car, but look at Korea, Felipe had to be told to stay behind when he was clearly much faster, and had Alonso got through T1 at Japan I think it would have been a similar story there.

You could say Seb is out performing his car if you compare him to Mark but nope, Fernando insists it's Newey and nobody else, not very respectful.

The thread asks who we want to win the title, and I say Vettel, that's my opinion; anyone who wins only 3 races doesn't deserve the title IMO.
