I might get to like Sebi better as he gets older, but right now I far prefer Nando.

Not much in it on the driving, to this point, I think.

Where have you been living the last 2´9 years? Under a rock?

Where I've been living in the last years or the logic of asking me that here is no argument and has no relevance.

You REALLY need me to explain that one?? Isn´t it clear enough? That´s the time Alonso has spent blatantly trying to downplay Vettel.

In 2011 Vettel didn't deserve the title because he had a rocketship
In 2010 Vettel didn't deserve the title because Alonso was very unlucky to get stuck behind Petrov
In 2009 Button didn't deserve the title because he had an illegal car which was dominant
In 2008 Hamilton didn't deserve the title because he was just extremely lucky that Glock didn't make it till the end on those tyres
In 2007 Raikkonen didn't deserve the title because Hamilton was told to switch off his engine

...

Therefore, no matter the WDC outcome, the winner eventually will not deserve the title.

QED

You forgot to add 2006, where people say Alonso didn't deserve the championship because Schumacher's engine blew in Japan. Or 2005, where people say Alonso didn't deserve the championship because of Raikkonen's unreliable Mclaren.

Stop acting as if Alonso is the only driver that gets all the praise.

Until Alonso starts calling idiot to some driver or throwing his gloves to the camera, twisting his words is the only thing some people can do.

Personally, I would prefer Seb to win it (and voted for him), but whoever will make it in the end will deserve it and will get my honest applause.
These two guys have been the outstanding drivers this season.

BTW, my respect for J. Villeneuve has gone done immensely after reading his latest derogatory comments.
Not because I am a blind Vettel fanboy (I am a supporter of his, sure, but I also appreciate most of the other drivers), but I think that Villeneuve's latest comments - if quoted correctly - are unintelligent, absolutely lacking in style, and most obviously just directed at getting into the headlines by making controversial statements that journos will jump upon thankfully.
To read such lowly ad-personam criticism by a former driver is really disappointing and doesn't speak for Villeneuve's character IMHO. Compare that to Alain Prost's comments that were to be read here a few days ago.

Both Vettel and Alonso have had outstanding seasons. However after seeing Vettel's excellent run from 24th to 3rd in Abu Dhabi vs Alonso being unable to cope with Raikkonen in a Lotus when it really mattered I would say that Vettel is showing that he is the more deserving driver this season.

So because of one race Vettel is the more deserving driver? I doubt anyone would have won that race in the Ferrari if Alonso couldn't do it. The Ferrari car just isn't quick enough.

That drive from 24th to 3rd was completely because of the safety car as well. It was a good drive from Vettel (other than running into stuff under the first safety car ), but without the 2nd safety car there is no way he would have finished on the podium.

Yes, it has been very close between them this season so it is going to come down to one or two pivotal races.

In Abu Dhabi it was crunch time and Vettel was the one who came through with a monumental drive to a podium under great pressure to preserve his lead in the wdc. Alonso did well but if he was to take full advantage of Vettel's penalty he needed to win the race. It was there for him as he had the pace to the finish. However he wasn't able to perform at the restart when he needed to the most and had given Kimi to much of a lead.

There are two races left for Alonso to regroup and show some real grit under pressure to grind out the wdc. Lets see how he does! Right now though it is Vettel who is looking like a champion to me.

This was the question:

Not "Do you know any of them personally?"

I have watched, listened and read about Alonso in all aspects and points of his racing life for the last 8-9 years and done the same for Vettel in the last 5-6. During that time I have come to the definite conclusion that Sebastian Vettel is a much "better" person than Fernando Alonso, if one can quantify such thing.

Nope.avi. To KNOW somebody, is not the same as having watched a bunch of pressco's over the years.

Agree, unfortunately Räikkönen can't win this year so of course Vettel before Alonso.

Lol. That's like asking if you want to be twatted with a mallet or a baseball bat after the way that McLaren have chucked it away this year.

Probably Fred. He's a classy driver... And he deserves another title given the value he has added to the sport....... Although his car is not the shitbox that everyone makes it out to be.

But a third Alonso title title is well overdue and a thre Vettel title sounds ridiculous so I think I'd rather Alonso.

This is ridiculous. It is akin to characterising members of the forum based on their posts.

My opinion is that characterisation of sports personalities is more about what you (disclaimer: not pointing the finger at you) want to believe rather than reality.

I just expected him to say nothing, as I said. It's pointless.

Actually to be fair, the article was actually based on the interview on F1 website. He was asked a question about the championship battle between him and Alonso, what was he supposed to say? He didn't phone the journos just because he feels like having to have a say about it. It's just the way media's making headlines out of common Q&As IMO.

Edit: It could both work way, same could be said for Alonso&Hamilton and all the Newey-comments though.

The choice was Vettel or Alonso. It's kinda difficult to claim one has performed better than the other this year so I choose Alonso for the reason given in my previous post.
But come to think of it, I would love for Pedro to win it next year. :p

This is exactly why I hope he doesn't get it.
If he hadn't been playing politics as much, I wouldn't mind him winning, as his performance this year is deserving of this, but because he's tried so hard to make everyone believe the Ferrari is a shitbox, he blew it with me. People's memory of history is already often slanted, so the last thing I want is this image of 'Alonso winning the title in a Minardi' incorrectly going down into history.

These are my two favorite drivers so I would not be too unhappy if Alonso takes it this year. Both are equally deserving.

As big a fan as I am of Sebastian, I don't want Alonso to end up his career as "only" a double WDC.

Good one for Vettel to win i he can hold on. Alonso has driven one of the best seasons in years (similar standard to Vettels 2011 in a different way though), so if he does win, its against a top quality driver driving a top quality season. Alonso hasn't gifted Vettel any points all year

Probably Lotus, Red Bull and Mclaren were faster than Ferrari in Abu Dhabi, so improved from 6th to 2nd is a very good result.

Start in 24th position, helped with accidents, 2 SC's .. only overtaking HRT's, Toro Rosso's and Force India's ... even with 2 major fault in race, plus one in qualifyng, your teammate qualifyng better than you with less fuel ... The last SC let him with new soft tires against 3 worse cars with old with hard tires with 13 laps in front and he was unable to overtake button over 10 laps, losing the opportunity to win the race and finish the championship ...

Even with this im not blaming Vettel, but i dont understand how you blame Alonso for start 6th and finish 2nd overtaking Mclaren's and Red Bull's and praise on Vettel only for his great result.

Lotus was slower, he got past Button when he was pushed wide in turn 1, Vettel had his penalty and Hamilton retired. Only good thing he could be credited for is getting past asleep Webber in lap 1.

Lap chart

Lotus was slower?

Before the first SC Kimi was 4 second over Alonso in 9 laps.
When SC gone, Kimi take 5 seconds over Alonso in 5 laps before Hamilton retires.
From lap 20 to lap 27 Kimi improved from 5.33 to 7.71.

After their pit stops the gaps still in 7.42 and Kimi raise the gap to 9.25 in the lap 39 before 2nd SC.
After the SC Kimi take anothers 3 seconds from lap 41 to 46.

Only in the last 7 laps Alonso was quickets than Kimi, reducing the gap from 3.5 to 1.5 .. and you think Lotus was slower?
