"Caught with a pack of cigarettes"? What is this, high school? I wish more of them smoked. Those long, tragic walks back to the pit lane after a car loses an engine halfway around the track would be far more interesting if the driver just lit up and shot the breeze with reporters instead of keeping his helmet on and stomping his feet. Maybe we can get Kovalainen to start and he can light up a few Camels from the back of his car next time he decides to play fireman .
I meant on camera, sorry.

it's not harmless, it can cause mouth cancer and since it has tiny bits of class inside of it, tobacco goes quicker into blood systemNo one chews anything. Wet snuff I think the correct English term is - it's a tobacco product which you put under the lip (absorbing the nicotine through your gum) and lesson ONE is not to chew the stuff. It's very loose so you will end up with all the stuff in your stomach and you will get proper sick. It would also defeat the purpose since you want the slow absorption into your blood.
It's quite disgusting but actually pretty harmless for being a tobacco product, you avoid a lot of the negative side effects (like cancer) this way. It would actually be good for the public health if smokers converted to this. Bad for their chances to attract the opposite sex though.

Don't you 'back in the day' me boy.I seem to recall that, back in the day, Frentzen used to smoke.

Should point out that Nico doesn't say there's only one smoker in F1 – he says there's only one chain smoker. In fact, the way he says it makes it sounds like there are a couple of smokers, at least.
I believe earlier this year there was a picture of De la Rosa getting off a buggy and there was what looked like a packet if cigs in his back pocket. Also there is the obvious candidate who there are multiple pics of, and we know Schumacher smokes cigars.
Based upon the evidence we have (ie very little), I'm going to hazard a guess of De la Rosa who is the chain smoker. Unless it is someone completely different.

Snus is often used by ice hockey players cause it makes you a bit more aggressive. Maybe that explains Kimis radio messages last race
Delete that message since it's so wrong in every sense. I know about snus and I know about hockey and I know that you don't have a clue of what you're talking about.. And I hope that you're not affended by these words because it's not my intention.

And really, who cares if the drivers smoke. It's their choice, and I don't see a big deal in the whole thing.

Well, just recently it was revealed that he EU lied about this.it's not harmless, it can cause mouth cancer...
No one can prove that snus causes mouth cancer. But disgusting it is...

No offence taken. First, I wrote my post with a wink (cause I obviously can't speak for all players), and second, what if I told you that I got the exact words about Snus and aggressiveness from a pro hockey (national) player in person? But I guess that's OT here.Delete that message since it's so wrong in every sense. I know about snus and I know about hockey and I know that you don't have a clue of what you're talking about.. I'm nicotine addic and have gone over to snus for a log time ago (little pillows you put under your lip - not messy at all)
Do not want to get lungcancer...
Bad habit but at least a healthier one..

Well, the only thing proven with snus is that it makes your blood pressure increase, but making you more agressive? I guess when you try to stop using snus that will make you agressive!

Webber - just look at his skin - the skin of a smoker
not being a fanboy here but he's the last person on the grid who'd smoke. he doesn't even drink and he's a fitness lunatic from a nation of anti-smoking extremists. only blue-collar males and insecure girls smoke down here.
how much of a factor is aerobic fitness in F1 anyway? of course you have to have endurance and strength, but being able to hold a sustained high heart rate and breathing pattern can't be a priority.

Kimi in Monaco on a boat.
I have to tell this story. When this pic was first displayed on here back in 2010 Monaco, someone here at Autosport posted, "that's a pen in his mouth". I actually used that excuse when I got caught by a family member smoking when I was to have quit - tossed the smoke and popped a pen in my mouth - he fell for it too! .
My guess, it could be that Rosberg was speaking of Pedro, but I would imagine a number of drivers have the odd toke of a smoke here and there, I don't judge anyone negatively for it, they'll smoke or quit as they like. But that is my guess.

I guess he looks so unfit cause he's so old compared to other drivers. He looks like a dinosaur maaaan! *exhales smoke-rings*
You're right maybe the journalist overestimates it. F1 is pretty hard on the body but it's not exactly athletics either. A lot of drivers are really fit (the most being Button?) but I'd say casual smoking wouldn't have too much impact on driving performance.

At first I thought, no way its Webber - but being 6' tall and being painfully thin to work that car, maybe he's on the supermodel endorsed cocaine, cigarettes and lettuce diet?
(Do i need to add a smile so that some people dont take that seriously and acuse me of calling Webber a drug addict?)
Its probably Nico, trying to deflect the attention

You avoid LUNG cancer. It doesn't prevent oral cancer.

Am an ex-smoker. 1 year now.
I suspect the smokers are:
Vitaly Petrov (Russians love their smokes!)
Grosjean, ex-banker and crash-kid, I'd smoke too
Kimi, cause he's Kimi

It's been mentioned earlier, but no scientific study has proved a connection between oral cancer and snus. The scientific community is pretty much in agreement on this. This accusation is often planted by the cigarette industry since switching to snus is perhaps the most effective way to quit smoking, which is bad for them. There IS a slightly elevated risk of pancreatic cancer (but less than for cigarettes) though, so just saying "cancer" was a bit too general, I admit. Compared to smoking however, it's not even in the same ballpark. Snus is MUCH "healthier".
Someone also mentioned glass, that is a urban myth and legend. Possibly based on glittering particles which is salt and/or tiny (harmless) sand contamination from the tobacco leaves. No glass needs to be used, the nicotine enters your bloodstream easily enough.
Just so no one is confused: Never use a tobacco product, they are not healthy and shortens your life. But if you're already addicted, switch to snus if you can't quit and you may avoid a early death.

I was replying to a incorrect statement. One has to balance the inappropriateness of going off topic versus the need to correct misinformation. But if you disagree with my judgment in this case, I think the correct thing to do is report the post instead of making a off topic post yourself.

No need to start another off-topic debate about his off-topic though!
Besides, it's not entirely off-topic to discuss the health risks involved with smoking and chewing tobacco as that is part of the what makes this topic relevant - does it even matter if a driver smokes or not?
PS. I think it's safe to assume Kimi chuffs a deathstick once in a while

Btw when I was watching the own language interviews after the Abu Dhabi race, I thought immediately that Kimi was using snus. (Or then I saw wrong) But he seems to be using it alot.
