Who's the smoking F1 driver?

"Caught with a pack of cigarettes"? What is this, high school? I wish more of them smoked. Those long, tragic walks back to the pit lane after a car loses an engine halfway around the track would be far more interesting if the driver just lit up and shot the breeze with reporters instead of keeping his helmet on and stomping his feet. Maybe we can get Kovalainen to start and he can light up a few Camels from the back of his car next time he decides to play fireman .

Wet snuff I think the correct English term is - it's a tobacco product which you put under the lip (absorbing the nicotine through your gum) and lesson ONE is not to chew the stuff. It's very loose so you will end up with all the stuff in your stomach and you will get proper sick. It would also defeat the purpose since you want the slow absorption into your blood.

It's quite disgusting but actually pretty harmless for being a tobacco product, you avoid a lot of the negative side effects (like cancer) this way. It would actually be good for the public health if smokers converted to this. Bad for their chances to attract the opposite sex though.

Should point out that Nico doesn't say there's only one smoker in F1 – he says there's only one chain smoker. In fact, the way he says it makes it sounds like there are a couple of smokers, at least.

No offence taken. First, I wrote my post with a wink (cause I obviously can't speak for all players), and second, what if I told you that I got the exact words about Snus and aggressiveness from a pro hockey (national) player in person? But I guess that's OT here.

not being a fanboy here but he's the last person on the grid who'd smoke. he doesn't even drink and he's a fitness lunatic from a nation of anti-smoking extremists. only blue-collar males and insecure girls smoke down here.

how much of a factor is aerobic fitness in F1 anyway? of course you have to have endurance and strength, but being able to hold a sustained high heart rate and breathing pattern can't be a priority.

You're right maybe the journalist overestimates it. F1 is pretty hard on the body but it's not exactly athletics either. A lot of drivers are really fit (the most being Button?) but I'd say casual smoking wouldn't have too much impact on driving performance.

You avoid LUNG cancer. It doesn't prevent oral cancer.

It's been mentioned earlier, but no scientific study has proved a connection between oral cancer and snus. The scientific community is pretty much in agreement on this. This accusation is often planted by the cigarette industry since switching to snus is perhaps the most effective way to quit smoking, which is bad for them. There IS a slightly elevated risk of pancreatic cancer (but less than for cigarettes) though, so just saying "cancer" was a bit too general, I admit. Compared to smoking however, it's not even in the same ballpark. Snus is MUCH "healthier".

Someone also mentioned glass, that is a urban myth and legend. Possibly based on glittering particles which is salt and/or tiny (harmless) sand contamination from the tobacco leaves. No glass needs to be used, the nicotine enters your bloodstream easily enough.

Just so no one is confused: Never use a tobacco product, they are not healthy and shortens your life. But if you're already addicted, switch to snus if you can't quit and you may avoid a early death.

I was replying to a incorrect statement. One has to balance the inappropriateness of going off topic versus the need to correct misinformation. But if you disagree with my judgment in this case, I think the correct thing to do is report the post instead of making a off topic post yourself.

I think you'll find that asking which driver you think smokes is very much on topic......
