So do you think Vettel will win the WDC this weekend or the next or perhaps not at all?

Here's how he can secure the title this weekend:

Winning with Alonso outside the top 4.
Finishing 2nd with Alonso outside the top 8.
Finishing 3rd with Alonso outside the top 10.

No, he won't. Ferrari seems to be competitive enough to secure at least 4th in the race for Alonso if something unexpected will not happen.

But I think Vettel will be on top after Brasil.

I don't think there is any chance for Alonso to win the title if Vettel and Red Bull have two clean races, so it's definitely possible Vettel wins the title tomorrow. Ferrari hasn't looked that strong in Texas, but for some reason Alonso has managed to hang in there on Sundays so far. If Ferrari and Alonso can do the same here they can delay it to Brazil but beating Red Bull seems like quite the long shot.

Bit of a shame to see the season fizzle out like this, but what can you do.

This circuit heavily punish overdriving, giving Vettels car advantage and Alonsos need to push really hard, to be honest for me the most likely scenario is Vettel easily winning the race and Alonso making a mistake. So I think Vettel will get the wdc here.

On pure pace no. But Alonso could get taken out at the first corner, in which case Vettel will win it.
Anyhow it doesn't matter, the Red Bull is so much faster it's just an academic question whether it's here or Brazil. Such an anticlimax to what had been a great season, and just shows that the concept of a driver's championship is almost laughable, there should just be one title for driver and constructor as the two are inseparable.

I expect it to go to the wire, and then Seb to see it out there in a tense finale

This is pretty much how I see it too. Seb won't secure the title yet, but he'll go to Brazil with such a big lead that he basically just needs to finish the race there to to win the title.

Vettel will win to put us all out of our illusions that this years WDC might have been interesting.

No. Alonso will be close enough to RB to avoid it, and even challenge them if he qualifies properly. Then in Brazil everything can happen...

Winning with Alonso outside the top 4.

That puts it into perspective as that is seriously realistic in terms of pace. If McLaren have a clean weekend (probably too much to ask), Alonso will find himself fifth at best in qualifying anyway.

The first corner with this weekend's cold tyres is also a perfect storm for an accident that poor Ferrari qualifying pace could put Alonso into a tough spot.

The harder tyres have crippled Ferrari's weekend. Their race pace is on another level but with a single pitstop tomorrow, there's too much for Alonso to do.

If Grosjean crashes in Alonso again he really deserves a lifetime ban like Yuji Ide

Vettel, Hamilton, Webber, and Raikkonen could finish ahead of Alonso, so it is not impossible, but anything can happen in the race to one or more of those four drivers, and the Spaniard still has a decent chance of staying in contention. From the other drivers starting ahead of Alonso, Grosjean is penalized, Massa will yield, and Schumacher and Hulkenberg will likely not be fast enough. The Ferrari will probably be relatively faster in the race than in qualifying.

Edit: it looks like Webber could be penalized for missing a weight check in Q1, in which case the title will probably not be decided here yet.

A lot depends on how bad the dirty line is in the start. If Alonso finds himself 10th or so after lap 1 then it might happen here.

Actually, the odd-numbered grid spots are on the dirty side here (at least that's what they said in the Finnish broadcast), so it's not all bad news for Alonso.

Are you sure? That's not what the Sky commentators said. P1 is usually on the clean side.

Pole is on the right side, and the ideal racing line is also on the right side for the entire pit straight, because the lap begins and ends with a left turn. On many other Tilke tracks, the first and last corners are in the opposite direction, and because of that, the racing line crosses from one side to the other.

Considering Ferrari's race pace, Alonso's race craft along with other positives like Massa ahead of Alonso (he would yield), Mark under investigation for weight check and Merc's awful race pace Alonso should finish on 4th. so the championship would definitely go to Brazil.

Hamilton fans should have learned by now this season that karma is a bitch. :p However, I hope no one retires, so that more points can be taken from Alonso.

So it's okay to wish Alonso to get t-boned by Grosjean and Maldonado into turn 1 tomorrow?

Well, you can wish whatever you want, but I wasn't talking about accidents that could be dangerous for the drivers. But if he retires because of some mechanical problem, what's wrong with that? Reliability is also part of the competition. It's easy to be the champion of sportsmanship when you know you have the best car and if nothing happens you are going to win every race.

If Vettel wins and there's no attrition, it is likely that Alonso has to beat at least 1 of Hamilton, Webber or Kimi to get in the top 4. Tough call. I think he'll beat Schumi/Hulk and Massa will move over so thats 8th to 5th but he needs to get one of them.
If there's no SC and if he can't make early progress, those top 4 could be clear before he gets up to 5th.

But i still remember Valencia, where the grid looked similar and it turned full circle in a heartbeat

Right, because a break problem at the end of the straight is not dangerous at all. Or if your steering brakes. Or ...

So called "fans" are a diagrace, just like hooligans in football. In the Ferrari thread someone wished Vettel to fall and break hia hands. Joking or not , you idiots are just stupid and bitter.

edit: do you remember how Senna died? Oh, right ...mechincal failure

Yeah, I was wrong earlier. The odd-numbered starting slots are better. So much so that Massa says he wish he hadn't been promoted from 7th to 6th.

Answer to OT is - probably no, because just potentially winning a race is not good enough, and Alonso would need a one miserable and bizzare race to make this happen. Seb cannot allow red car to win both last races.

Alonso has Vettel, Webber, Hamilton and Raikkonen in front of him. If those 4 have a mistake free race and Vettel leads, there's probably little Alonso can do..

Ferrari is a very good car in race conditions. There are treacherous corners in this circuit. Let's wait until the end of the race. I am looking forward to this one.

Enjoy the race.

That's correct, but normal race can quickly turn into a bizzare race. Alonso just has to get on podium with hope that bad luck strikes Seb in next race. Since I am rooting for Sebastian, I am merely hoping that Seb will finish in both races at least a position ahead of Alonso.

Ha, it seems fans from both sides seem to be downplaying their chances quite a bit. "If" Vettel wins the race, Alonso would actually need a bizarre race to take the championship to Brazil.

Nothing is decided yet. Point was, Alonso would have to suffer DNF today, and Seb to win, in order to secure WDC title. That's pretty weird scenario; possible, but bizzare. Even as Seb's fan, I don't wish DNF to anyone.

Who said anything is decided? For Vettel to win the title, Alonso would have to DNF and Vettel has to win the race? No, that was not the point. Not even remotely close.
