I believe this will happen in 2014?What do you think? Todays race has got me thinking, it was fascinating watching the drivers trying to get the tyres up to temperature, rather than just slap on some new tyres and fly instantly you had to think about it a bit more in terms of strategy, plus it made the drivers work harder and allowed for some good action. It would help save costs too!

The problem with the high wear super soft tyres, is that to get to the above situation (low grip) you have to wait for the tyres to degrade, then you have marbles, you have some people stopping and so they're 2-3 seconds a lap quicker which isn't that exciting for me, and you have people nursing their tyres much of the race. Why not just cut straight to the chase and make the tyres rocks.

I imagine the fear of liability is one reason why banning them is not agreed to.
No series in America uses them(maybe AMA Superbike?) so I don't think there's anything actually stopping them. CART teams used to use them in testing though, because they wasted fewer laps getting up to speed.

It was only a few rounds ago (India?) they had conservative tyres and it didnt produce anything though.
Conservative isn't what I'm suggesting, to emulate what we saw this weekend on a regular track, you'll need very hard tyres with very little bite.

No thanks. F1 cars look pathetic and hopeless in cold tyres. Watching them struggling to move the car forward and locking with the slightest of the brake inputs is not pretty.
serious?
I thought was excellent watching all the backends losing it, even vettel couldnt keep control of the backend of his car, for once we actually seen the drvers pushing it for majority of the race, how F1 should be, not some silly trye degredation exercise.
I loved it when I Seen lewis closing vettel down ready for DRS and lewis almost lost control of the car in the process haha.
much better than tip toeing for 15 laps between pit stops because 1 overtake attempt or 1 quali lap wrecks the tryes.

Go back to a real round-black-thing-with-the-hole-in-the-middle - preferably not that B/S branded Firestone tho'

Yes, I´m serious, it´s horrible. Seeing people exiting the pitlane and tip toeing for 3 laps was pathetic. The cars didn´t move forward, didn´t slow down, didn´t turn. It´s not even pretty to watch. It was because the wrong tyres were picked, but without tyre warmers it could be like this every race.
Only positive side for me would be rewarding keeping cars on track instead of pitting first in a straight fight. Strategy becomes more interesting. If you don´t pit because you don´t want to be passed by your direct rival you end up losing to anyone else pitting earlier and you´re slower to the flag. It´d be interesting.

Bring back the hard Bridgestone tyres, get rid of the rule that a driver have to do a race with both compound, get rid of DRS, and i hope we will have more track like COTA, and we will see some fantastic battle.

I think todays race is an argument for rock hard tyres. Low mechanical grip, slippery cars in low speed, no marbles, longer braking zones, drivers can go hard and it's tough work while they bring them up to temp especially. Get rid of the tyre warmers, go back to some ground effect aero and stick skinny as wings on them and you'd have some very good fun imo.
I believe you are right. Wouldn't that be nice?

With the normal choice of compounds, tyres are up to temperature in half a lap or so, it definitely wouldn't be like Austin everywhere.
Definately not as they would have to begin with significantly lower tyre pressures without warmers.
Anyway, naming cost saving as reason for banning is totally void as every team has them and banning them will increase cost, it would be just for the show.

I knew this one would be brought up eventually. But unless they'd somehow had used tyre warmes on a splash-and-dash, they wouldn't have had any impact on his accident.I know it's comparing apples to oranges, but having cold tyres are dangerous. If champcar had used tyrewarmers, Zanardi probably wouldn't have had that tragic accident.
@jee: GP2 uses the same or at least similar tyres without tyre warmers and they get up to temperature pretty fast. Also i don't understand how it is relevant that every team has them and how banning them would increase cost.

BS. You can't take one crash from the hundreds of incident free ones and point the finger at tyre warmers being the problem.
