I was reading another thread when it dawned upon me that I have never seen a Lotus 72 in the flesh. This leads me to wonder where they all are at present. I've been to a couple of historic races both in Europe and the US, but no 72 has been present. The only one I can remember seeing on TV recently is the one Top Gear's "The Stig" used on a private track in Spain to set a time for the boys to beat in Teutonic hardware.

Also, is there any good photos of the blue Embassy sponsored car out there? I've only seen one decent color shot.

I am going to the Montjuic Revival in a couple of weeks. Hopefully a 72 will show up. Or even better, the German owned Brabham BT-45B...

I've seen at least two 72s at historic events in Germany.

I don't know if this is the same car as the one on my first picture or a third one.

There were three '72s at the last FoS at Goodwood in June, one GLTL 72B and two JPS 72Es one of which I believe I saw Jackie Ickx drive to win the RoC at Brands in 1974.

I found this list over on oldracingcars.com. Can you guys update the current wherabouts?

Lotus 72/R1 Rebuilt as 72/4
Lotus 72/R2 (remains) 2010
Lotus 72/R3 Japan 2010
Lotus 72/R4 Austria 2010
Lotus 72/R5 United Kingdom 2010
Lotus 72/R6 United Kingdom 2007
Lotus 72/R7 Private collection
Lotus 72/R8 United States 2010
Lotus 72/R9 United Kingdom 2010

R2 would then be the car Rindt got killed in. Judging from this list it only consist of whatever remains of the 72?

I found a thread which mentioned an ex- Gunston 72 later owned by a Schryver (sp) that was then sold to Japan. R3?

Is R6 is the old Embassy car Keizan drove?

A Google search detailed a 72 being displayed in a Biltema (aftermarket car accessories) store in Uppsala, Sweden this summer. Is that the one which supposedly was on show at the defunct Ronnie Peterson museum?

For future sightings: where is the chassis number of the 72 to be found?

If you mean the chassis plate, then it's inside the cockpit. However, the chassis plate is an imperfect guide to the chassis number.

No, I meant chassis number, if there is actually one. That chassis plates got swaped back and forth (see Porsche 917) is known to me.

I'm pretty sure the 72's only ever had chassis plates.

Yes, I believe so. I think it is the last chassis built for the 1975 season.
