Edd Straw sometimes cites comments made on forums in his column in the magazine, Mark Hughes has PM'd me direct once and via an Autosport staffer once.
There's certainly at least a few drivers do too.

Journalists have get their inspirations and opinions from somewhere and that includes forums.

I think that might have been on Pistonheads.Didn't Jason Plato sign up just so he could respond to a slight made against him a month or so ago? I'm starting to think it was actually him.

His response on PH was quite amusing, but he did register here as well, think it was in the btcc thread.

Plato is a member of motorsportforums too and has made quite a few posts defending his actions in the past and got very heated in the process. Anthony Davidson was also a member there a few years back. We already have Andy on here so its proof at least one member of the paddock contributes here and no doubt its monitored by others within F1. I just hope they don't draw too many conclusions from the behaviour here lol.Didn't Jason Plato sign up just so he could respond to a slight made against him a month or so ago? (yes I know most people hate it.. and I may just be the guy to blame )
By the way if you're the Overtaking Working Group guy that stole my idea, I'd take a all-expenses-covered paddock VIP pass for a race at Spa as payment, cheers.

They do and an easy way to verify this is to look into the analytic of the site which will reveal the IP addresses of visitors and some will be from the factories of F1 teams. I used to run a fashion blog and I was gob smacked by how many individuals in the fashion industry were accessing the site from their workplaces.

If he ever tried, I'm sure he would have managed to get himself banned, for trolling, about 5 minutes later.I guess Lobato is a member here
I don't know about the teams, but some media do read these forums. I've found a couple of times some of my translations, including orographic and grammar mistakes, in F1 sites. Of course, it was never the really good and reliable F1 sites.

There are some proper writers in TNF.
Yeah I was randomly searching for topics to kill time one of these days, and found tidbits of posters going casually "well there was this one time I turned down a drive from Chapman's Lotus because those cars were death traps", and "(random 80's driver) was a really nice bloke, he once insisted on paying us dinner after the race". There's countless other examples.
It's easy to make stuff up on the internet but clearly there's quite a few actual former paddock people and drivers there. Many post with their real names as usernames too.

Notice though that just reading a thread on Atlas was not quite enough for Fisi to become the winner of the Brazilian GP 2003. Somebody must have taken info from here to some useful place.
edit: ah, LB faster ;)
edit again: fixed wrong link
