Out of curiosity, how would you rate the architecture of Oscar Niemeyer in this respect?

Ah, the perpetrator of Brasilia... ;)

You can if you're an architect..........just leave it to the Structural Engineer.

Well, yes and no. Libeskind has run into this now and then. His design for the Royal Ontario Museum, famously sketched at dinner on the back of a napkin, was unbuildable. Anyone who understands building took one look at it and said it was unbuildable. And sure enough, what finally got built was very different.

Some F1 Ferraris (312 T4 comes to mind) had Pininfarina decal on the sidepod. Did Pininfarina had ANYTHING to do with actual design, or was it there just for a good sake?

Why would you think that? My post was just a comment on how Niemeyer's designs didn't really "improve" the "city" of Brasilia, in much the same way that Colani's didn't improve the March. I once had the opportunity to talk to someone who actually lived and worked there for a time, and she described it as rather peculiar.

And no, I don't think I'm a "fan" of Modernism, though I liked it a lot in younger years (both in art and architecture). That feeling has cooled off quite a bit as I grow older...

I recall talking with Colani a couple of times, certainly at the Frankfurt Show, and maybe another time in Turin. Droopy moustache, looked like a somewhat emaciated Asterix the Gaul. I thought he was brimming with BS, his automotive styling all about show while ignoring genuine go. Unimpressed. But I have always admired Canon cameras, and I had no idea he'd had a hand in their design. Good call Dave...
