The long lens really accentuates the undulations of what I think is the start-finish straight, looking towards Gueux from Thillois.

Yes, it looks like an Invicta. Could possibly be a Railton, though. Is number 2 a wartime meeting of VSCC types?

And No 2 - that is Cecil Clutton (then owner/driver of the 1908 Itala recently auctioned) at the Brains Trust.

Which one is Cecil, Nick? Perhaps we can get all of 'em! Could that be Peter Berthon looking glum? And No 2 - that is Cecil Clutton (then owner/driver of the 1908 Itala recently auctioned) at the Brains Trust.
Nick
(Useless fact of the day - Clutton and the Itala are reputed to have been the last to do a complete lap of Brooklands Outer Circuit)

This is A.C.Lace in his Invicta before the 1934 Ards TT. Interesting to examine some of the fastest laps in this class during the race. Lace recorded 11m 4s, Fontes in the sister car 10m 56s. The locally entered Ford V8s recorded 11m 14s, McCalla, 11m 12s, Wright and 10m 41s, Sullivan. These Fords carried Jensen bodies and 45 gallon fuel tanks.

Those certainly look like the old pits in Dundonald. The replica pit built as a commemoration was burnt down by local halfwits from the council estate on the opposite side of the road. Just a plaque these days.
It was numbered 9 for the 1934 race, and the nominated co-driver was one E.K.Rayson. So presumably that is indeed Mrs.Lace (or a lady companion) in the car.

Re No 9 perhaps the question should be who's the fellow in row 4, 38th from left? Still some typically insightful answers thus far...grandchildren due in 15 minutes...INCOMING!

That was early in the war before the vandals cut the banking. I believe the only person alive today to have driven the Outer Circuit is Bill de Selincourt, 92 next year, still got all his marbles, can remember his lap times, as he says "I can see, hear after a fashion, eat, drink and talk. It is just that I can't walk anymore"

I think that No. 4 is Colin Chapman at Le Mans in 1956 when he drove the # 32 1500 cc car with Mac Fraser. They apparently retired when a big end bolt broke.
Are those the Le Mans pits? Who is the boxing-booted driver to the right of Chunky?

Of course, Silverstone! That is Hugh Haskell, who contibuted to Lotus 7/20, especially to its rear suspension, and was invited to drive it during Six Hour relay race at Silverstone in 1962.Are those the Le Mans pits? Who is the boxing-booted driver to the right of Chunky?

Its sister photo, just a moment after the start, is on page two of "Racing Car Review" 1950 edition by Jenks:N°1511 sept 1949 Monza,Gran Premio d'Italia.
A modern Grand Prix start. This scene at the Monza track in Italy, on the occasion of the 1949 Grand Prix d'Europe, captures the atmosphere of a modern mass-start. In echelon in the front row, starting nearest the camera, are Ascari, Villoresi (in two-stage Ferraris), Farina (Milan), Sommer (single-stage Ferrari). The difference between the old and new G.P. Ferraris can be clearly seen.

#1 March 1971 Mallory Park F2. Henri Pescarolo leads Ronnie Peterson and, I think, Gerry Birrell. Two March 712s and a Lotus 69.
That's how it is being described:
Ronnie on Pole, Fastest lap: Ronnie with a new laprecord at 180 km/h
Pescarolo March wins, Gerry Birrell Lotus second, Brian Hart Brabham third and Ronnie Retired.
The narrow, short and tricky Mallory Park saw Ronnies first apperance in a F2 car 1971. Ronnie had only run some testlaps at Silverstone in his new 712M. But he was emediately on the pace in the practice. Simon Taylor from Autosport wrote this after the practice: "One driver stood head and shoulders above the rest: Ronnie Peterson. To watch him hurling the yellow March round Mallory with abondon and supreme confidandce was to invite instant comparison with one man - Jochen Rindt. Heґs times came down to 43 dead and he called the day! In the race Ronnie got away third, but he soon fought his way in to the lead. But on the 34th lap, after laping most of the field once and some twice (!) his left steeringarm broke and he went off the track in a big way. He hurted his hand slightly.

The two March F2 cars are 712M chassis and it is Gerry Birrell in a Lotus 69 in third spot.

Definately John McCartney-Filgate in his BRM P153 at Shelsley Walsh - I would suggest it was 1974 as in '75 he was running a P180.
Agree with #4 being Colin Chapman at Silverstone and i would suggest it is that Relay Race meeeting.

In the early 80s he was running a 2 Litre Tasman BRM P261, then a DN3 Shadow. What happened to him after that Steve? He must have had a heck of a collection.

Not sure that he still owned all of the cars that he had driven. He certainly sold cars regularly - last one I saw him in was a Cooper-Climax.
