A little help to ID some old motorsport photos

Sievwright's car was certainly an 'Argentina' type, as is the car in the picture. But he did occasionally use guest drivers, so it might not be him at the wheel

A rescan in a higher res might help with some details on certain cars. Some are straightforward enough, JC in the Lotus, Pat Lindsay, I suspect, in the Napier Railton, Ireland guesting in the 156, a well known angle/shot from that race, understeering, with an inside wheel lifting in others' shots ISTR. etc.

Also, I spotted Jim Moore (or is it Robin Darlington?) in the Kincraft, and John taylor in the Gerard Cooper-Ford

While we have the Silverstone brains sharpened, I hope original poster Geoffd won't mind if I cheekily slip in a couple from my late father's treasure trove. I thought at first his grid shot was from the same race as Geoff's #10, but it clearly isn't. Maybe a 750 MC gathering? The paddock shot is from the same meeting - wish we had such varied support vehicles now, including an Austin A40 Sports with glamorous attendant. The date is 1958, if the note on the envelope of prints is to be trusted (not guaranteed!).

I have pondered long and hard over these 2 photographs, and have to confess that like much else, my memory is failing!
The 750 grid is, I suspect, from 1958. I can positively identify car no 76, the Dave Rees special, 1955 750 Goodacre Trophy winner, and 67 is the ratty edition of John Wilkes' 1958 Goodacre-winning car which was later tidied up and re-bodied. I'm pretty sure the white car is Mike Featherstonehaugh's FW Special, and the red car 69 looks very familiar, I wonder if it's one of the Anziani specials.

As for the car in the paddock - could it be Pat Stephens' Stoneham Special, maybe?

Silverstone tomorrow

I shall report back on what transpires - main objective to hand over the original glass negs on permanent loan for safe a proper keeping. I suspect the owner will allow Silverstone / BRDC to make copies to display on site, any more than that (selling prints, etc.) we will just have to wait and see.

Unfortunately I STILL can't post over at TNF so I've not been able to add my thanks to those who have contributed. Some of you on here may also be familiar with TNF and you contributions are welcomed - thanks.

No 19 seems to be VSCC Second Silverstone of 22 July 1961 where the first event was a relay race. The Austin carries F1 as a comp. no. and the Bulletin shows the Edwardian team were H1 (TT Humber), H2 (GP Itala) and that 90 h.p. Mercedes which I think of as being Halkyard's but the Bulletin refers to as Clifton's.
As I recall it the Halkyard (Clifton?) Mercedes had very little bodywork at the time, but was subcequently restored into a fine tourer.

Many thanks for all your responses, it's been a great adventure! We have now signed all the Glass Negs over to Steph at the BRDC Archives at Silverstone. We have retained 1200 x 1200 images of all the photos in the gallery (http://www.wsccnl/photos2.php) if anyone needs to dig deeper. For example in (http://www.wsccnl.co...p?kit_code=0_14) there is also a car in the ditch which should be identifiable on the higher res image.

I'm told that at some stage a small article in one of the journals will be published once the Archivists have a story to tell - can't wait Also, I believe they have the ability to do higher res scans and are clearly more expert at these things than I so we could see some much better quality images at some stage.

If anyone has a particular favourite and would like a print, let me know and I'll see what we can do.
