It was Ascari. I've been hunting for that clip for years!DC has never been touted as someone great with handling oversteer (yet he's driven beatifully around Monaco so often), but he had a great save in the '97 Monza-race, on his way to victory btw. I don't remember if it was in the Ascari-chicane or if it was in one of the Lesmo's, but it was a high-speed, very hairy moment, which he caught beatifully.
Haven't found it on youtube, but I haven't searched much either.

I remember in 2008, Hamilton had a crazy tank slapper while going full pelt through turn 8, yes the "turn 8", in Q2, he managed to keep all 4 wheels in the white lines. James Allen, being James Allen "that was one of the greatest saves since Banks vs Pele"

It only catches half of it but you can just about hear/make out that he SOMEHOW gets away with it, luck or skill? Either way, if he comes off its probably game over...

G Villeneuve in the wet at Montreal 1981, making the podium after driving with a broken front wing

On behalf of scots everywhere, can I just apologise for Jackie Stewart? His commentary here is awful, channeling Frazer from Dad's Army - "we're all doomed...". He'll get blackflagged, he is completely blind (even though the wing probably only takes up around 10% of his field of vision), it'll go under his tyre and burst it, he'll definitely crash etc etc. Awa and bile yer heid old man. (Even though he wasn't then, he sure sounds like it)

Best way to sum that one up:Massa, singapore this year.

While not strictly F1, no thread about Grand Prix saves is complete without Randy Mamola:

Amazing saves... however the yellow one is not the great Mamola but the spanish rider Alvaro Molina, Aprilia Cup 1998 Jarama track. And he even went to won that race!!!!

Gigi Galli.
You could argue that this was a slide, but IMO there's no way in hell he intended to get it that far out of shape so....epic save!

No it wasn't, it was him moving brake bias to the rear for the big stops to be able to work the front better, it just locked the rears slightly.More from Schumacher, this time in Austria in 2002:
(0:22)
and 2003
(0:22)
I'm still wondering whether that wasn't intentional - locking up the rears just to get faster direction change and get earlier on the throttle.
