Was a gift from Jason his helmet painter with his first colours and his championship design.

The top part works well, the side panels look a complete mess - the edging on the different elements doesn't flow - it goes in places from a white stripe to a black one for no apparent reason - just a mess really.

What is it with these cluttered, overly colorful helmets all across the grid? Nobody in F1 has a nice design. They all look like crap that 12 year olds would design in a computer game. I understand sponsor patches make it difficult to keep helmets clean and harmonious but then they go and throw the most idiotic shapes and gradients on any remaining free spots. No sense of style at all. This one is particularly horrible although I'm not exactly surprised as he seems to like looking like a clown anyway. Thank god it doesn't matter on the track, he remains my favourite driver regardless.

I liked the first design of his helmet at McLaren, it's still my favourite.

Here's an idea for a helmet design. Start with an all black design but with dark grey score marks segmenting it. Each segment is titled with a small dark grey goal e.g 1st Pole. As each goal is achieved that segment is removed in a subsequent design, revealing part of a slight altered 'special' yellow helmet design more in tune with his originals?

I don't understand why the red has been split into three separate shapes. It would look much better if it was joined up like it was before. It just looks a bit too busy at the moment.

Probably to distinguish between this and Nico's, providing they are both predominantly yellow.

I don't love it but I don't think it's hideous or anything. I've seen far worse.

The more I look at it the more I like it, I'am still all for in with the old and out with the new though. I do like the red collar around the HANS connector, that should stay and perhaps experiment with different colours there.

Yeah, I think the old design will start to look "old" so to speak.

What detracts from it is that there is far too much in terms of spacial area of the other colours.

Didn't the FIA make him tape up H.A.M at the US GP?

Edit: Just googled it. http://www.thesun.co...rom-helmet.html
Seems the FIA didn't care but it got removed after the Sun complained. Maybe McLaren made him remove it. So I guess it does say H.A.M on the back!

I would be very surprised if he went back to the HAM on the back. I can't blame him for doing so because those are his FIA initials. It would be silly though to draw the ire of the silly british press that loves to make a huge deal of that.

It is from this song

He was the first person I thought of when I saw the name and heard that song...

and whenever I see the initials HAM on the TV especially in qualy, I always think about the song...

If he chooses to have HAM on his helmet, he can just argue that is a short form of his surname.

It's not a big deal anyway

If youre like me and just heard that for the first time ... you probably think that was vile.... but if you dont listen to any rap please take my word that its not all as bad as this ... there are actually some sensible positive uplifting rap songs still being made ... despite the efforts of the "....the wicked empire of Def Jam, the land where lyrics are bland and heretics hang" as Canibus rightly called them.

Poor LH if this is the garbage floating around his head ....

I say "H.A.M." all the time and I don't listen to mainstream hip-hop at all. I actually listen to underground hip-hop all the time and HATE mainstream stuff. It's an abbreviation, nothing more.

I think we all know Lewis' image he likes to go for when not in the car. Hip-hop star lifestyle. But he can put whatever he wants on his helmet (until the FiA tells him not to).

And he's not exactly a "skinny racecar driver", he's pretty built. Look at him compared to Rosberg. Dude has some muscle mass.

This forum is full of ridiculousness.
