My brother always said Pat rode the big Yam as if it was an under-powered hack

Although Pat was mostly associated with the big bikes, I remember him giving Rod Gould a real race at Brands on a 250.

Slightly OT. Pat's father was a heck of a character and he's no doubt passed away too. He used to travel up the Brands in a Transit and fill it up with people who were walking. Then drive into the paddock and get everyone in for free. He reckoned Brands never paid Pat enough and they owed him !

Just posted a lovely photo of Kevin Wrettom in on page one of this thread.

Nice photo of Kevin and Mick Robinson, Graham

After scrolling down the page a bit I saw the photos of dear Rob Gourlay. I remember Rob very well from my occasional outings with the FRC many years ago, he rode a rapid Weslake and a tatty RG500 plus anything else he could use. A nicer chap you couldn't meet on or off the track but after the flag went down he went for it, no matter what, but a fast and fair rider always.

I'll never forget selling Rob a pair of Lockheed calipers and delivered them on my travels, the proceeds of said sale plus many more quids were quaffed between us in the Worksop Railwaymens Club!

A truly nice guy, I believe that he raced in every season from the age of 16 until his untimely death in 2008 aged 60, I wonder if this is some sort of record?

RIP Rob, a real gent.

I remember a friend of mine raced an RGV in Superteen in 93 against Masters, well I say against, he was nowhere near his speed, was an ex Mitchell machine, sounded like a TZ, he was awesome at Oulton, and getting there on the 250 in 94.

Like Johnny Peacock, very sad loss

That's a pretty comprehensive thread Tony, and well researched. The little bloke at the top of the page, Bill Whitworth, was a clubmate of mine when I started racing in 1986. He rode the Morgo Triton in the pic, and was the man to beat. In his earlier years, he'd raced grasstrack in England, with the Baybutts and co. Certainly didn't fancy us upstarts turning up on our "rice-burners" (delivered in loud Lancashire tones). But after we gave him a fright or two, particularly in the wet, he surreptitiously arranged to have one built, and joined the growing throng of K4 pedallers.
Bill, in his mid-fifties, was fit as a fiddle, and played comp squash, but fell flat on his back one Wednesday evening while attempting to learn to ride a unicycle in the hallway, and told us it had quite knocked him for six. The following weekend, while competing at a country road race at Mingenew, Western Australia, Bill pulled to the side of the track in the braking area at the end of the front straight and toppled off his Honda, dead from a heart attack, perhaps induced by his flat fall. A good man gone too soon.

Formula Junior pioneer Aquila Branca died yesterday at the age of 89

According to the Formula Junior Historic Racing Association, he took part in the very first FJ race, at Monza in June 1958. In more recent years, he has been looking after one of his Branca cars competing in historic FJ.

In the early days he was closely associated with Moretti, driving both their 750cc sportscars and Juniors

Does anybody have any memories or images of Peter Butler and Dave Nixon.

David  died after crashing  in  the 1974 Production TT

Peter ( 51) died in his sleep at Kings College Hospital 1991

They won the 1968 500 miler at Brands Hatch riding the Boyers 500 Triumph.

What do you mean "post page"?

I've tried all sorts but with no luck.

Its really annoying especially when I have posted pictures before.

It just means where you want to paste the info in order that the photo appears.  There's an issue on here with images not appearing immediately.  Try clicking on the tread a few times....

I have tried copying the URL from Photobucket and on my own web site

then I click on the image icon and the box with the red header comes up.

As soon as I paste the URL into that box it all freezes until I ctl-alt-del and get the forum back.

What is going on?

Yes done that Russell.

Also tried to use the quote button on your post but that didn't work

and then tried to copy (ctl C) your reply and paste (ctl V) into my thread and that didn't work either, copy and paste.

I don't have trouble on any other forum so guess this is set up differently.

I thought it might be because the picture was too large so reduced the size on Photbucket with no luck.

All the paste functions are greyed out, I even turned my anti virus off to no avail.

It worked on my IAM club site HBAM.

It just has to be something very simple

By the way has Dave Downer been noted. The picture I was trying to post was of him on the Dunstall Dominator on Druids at Brands and I am pretty sure it was on the day he died.

Photo of a photo, hence the white square of light, brought back a lot of memories when I saw this in a friends garage recently.

I've often wondered just how far he would have gone.

Kevin Clementson @ Brands Hatch 1980, Kevin was Winner of the first ever Yamaha LC Pro-Am race, but was killed a few days later crashing at Devils Elbow and was hit by following riders at a support race during the Mallory Park Trans Atlantic Trophy meeting, 19th April 1981.

Sadly i remember this. He crashed and was killed when he got up to retrieve his bike from the racing line. It happened almost in front of the grandstand. Such a promising young talent lost too young.... Then we lost the sweet-hearted Dave Potter the next day at Oulton. This thread makes me sad but i'm also really glad you created it, thank you.

I found a picture of my wife's late father online taken by Graham Etheridge. I would like to get a print of it and give it to my wife as a gift. Does anyone have contact information to reach the photographer, or know whether he sells prints of his work?

Thanks

I was stood at Quarter Bridge during the 1973 MGP and Phil was so quick through there that he was running wide into the mouth of the road that leads to Castletown, with the Pharaoh Yam twitching and shaking it's head. I echo Paul's thoughts, how far would he have gone?

its about time this thread found its way back to the top. not for morbid reasons but as a tribute to our heroes, mates or just fellow racers who are no longer with us. there are definitely several who have recently past on who need to be added to keep the continuity in the future.  unfortunately I havnt the wherewithal to do this. as an aside I notice a large number of losses attributed to road accidents.

I had seen Johns name in results recently and wondered if it was the 'old' John Schoenemann that I used to race against back in the 70s. I see from the obit it was.

RIP John  :(
