Would anyone possibly know if there are any archives / records of AARC.
This is a totally personal thing but I would like to know the exact date that I became an official.
My own personal memory says 1967 but I would be very pleased to be sure of this.
It is only to settle for want of a better word a family domestic.
A couple of generations of rellos registered very stern disapproval of me being involved in motor sport.
Would like to show the younger ones we were (are) normal people.
Albeit a big family.
NOT what people read im Mills & Boon!!
Any help really appreciated.
Cheers.
Roger.

If you don't mind being shuushed Roger...you could go to a library...The NLA and the NSW State Library have copies of Newsletters 1900-1986 ( ) and a book on the history of the organisation.

Well, not exactly. But Boris Osman had the records, when he and Andrew died someone else took everything and secreted them away from the world. I think that's how the story went.
Now there are good-hearted people trying to get possession of them and I don't know what stage that's reached.
However, I believe the AARC race programmes always carried the names of all officials. Is that not right?
There would be nothing, of course, in the Newsletters.

Can't help with AARC records but a propos your reference to Mills and Boon, one of the first books they published (way back in 1910) was called The Aviator's Companion and was written by noted early adventurers, Dick and Henry Farman. Although early in the field, it was clearly written as a practical guide to those keen to experience flying first hand. Amusingly Henry describes his own first experience of flying when he was ejected from the driver's seat of the racing car he was driving in the 1905 Gordon Bennett elimination trials, an accident he was lucky to survive.
Just goes to show that Mills and Boon were not always the publishers of light romantic fiction that they are now associated with!! Maybe they could be persuaded to reprint some of the titles in their 'Companions'series... The Rifleman';s Comanion, The Chauffeur's Companion, The Six-Handicap Golfer's Companion... I could go on!!

That could be a big seller in the US at the moment...
